This was so fantastic! I got the same rush as when I watched the original when I was 8 years old. The crash and desert scenes are epic. Thanks so much for recreating the magic!

Excellent video; loved the part where the drone cam shows what Professor Robinson
would have seen from his point of view when he was flying via the jet pack.
It is now 50 years since this wonderful show first aired; I was 8 years old in September
of 1965, and I vividly recall watching Lost In Space for the first time.
It's great to see that others love the show as much as I do! :)

I am a "Fan Boy" as well! Thanks for your uploads and the work! It was a great deal of fun to watch and remember. I have all of the episodes and grew up with the show . It would be great to re-visit the sound effects and how they were ORIGINALLY produced. They are as much a part of the show as Abbott's J2 and his other models. Thanks Guys!

Great stuff! Hint: To make the model chariot movements more realistic up the filming frame rate to 300fps.

Wow, lots of fun! Love the animation at the beginning, coupled with the video you guys shot on location! If you had done more close-ups and up angles of the Chariot, then slowed down the playback, it would have looked exactly like the original! Sooooo cool!!!

Like the work. Started watching this when I was 4 years old. Tech seemed good in this show. That is: Ship that was a Saucer, the Chariot, Robot, Cryogenics, Weapons, Consoles etc. I think that's what your trying to recapture here. Music when things going wrong builds pretty well. In the end it felt corny, too much Smith and his Bubble Headed Boobies in the end. Still early on a classic.

IKR? But as an easterner, the first time I travelled west, and seeing the deserts, rock formations and Grand Canyon, it truly felt I was on a different planet! I give great credit to the original crew who used this location for the pilot!! This was the best footage from the show, and never recreated in later seasons! Season 3 did have a few shows shot on location, which were cool, but they never returned to the Trona Pinnacles, or other awesome locations! Sorry for the late post, I just now came across this!

There's only a few things I would do to get the realism for the Chariot . First off is was made from a Snow vehicle that was heavy and slow with a soft suspension to adjust with terrain.
The scale model doesn't have the weight and power ratios as the real Snow buggy which can be corrected by a larger toothed gear adding prior to the output shaft gear to increase the ratio of turns made by the motor which will then send the power via a spline shaft built to be hallow for a mounting shaft ( pinion gear) to be screwed down on the body ( kinda like a push grass mower where one gear rides at one end to drive blades while at the other end it drives the axle Ring gear to the treads that now turn slower to end those jack rabbit starts that the real Snow buggy didn't have) like the push-handles on the mower in a wishbone shape.
The Chariot was a modified *1965 Thiokol Snow Cat with the narrow treads, the best I could do is guess at the Specs based on the tread size and number of wheels for the proper length. The vehicle was like a bulldozer on snow that could pull and climb , but very slow due to the small engine ( 4 or 6 cyl Ford) to keep the weight down but had a high differential gear ratio to transfer the torque and mere 30-50 HP which give it a nice climbing angle in degrees but on the trails back to the Home Base the Automatic or 4 spd manual Snow Cat started to scream just under 30 mph which was pushing it on a unknown trail to risk damage and be stuck waiting for help . A basic Drive Train unit is rated at about 1000 lbs , the Chariot looks like thin sheet metal with plastic windows mounted on an Aluminium cage . The seats and props must be about 600 lbs and then 5 adults plus 2 kids .
The scale looks close to 12:1 , but with close to 2500 lbs for the real Chariot and passengers for the scale model RC would be ridiculous at about 200lbs.
I'd go with the higher gear ratio to stop the jerk motion in the throttle , remove any stones larger than a Junior Mint which seem to make the front bounce up by the suspension which would have compressed on the full scale version, add weights to the front and rear until the jerking and bounce evens out .
Lastly , record it at the new speed limit without the jack rabbit starts and then play back at a slower rate to look sluggish and heavy while a long small diameter clear plastic dowel could push a rock on cue outside of the frame to roll down a just as the Chariots passes by.
I had a slot car set and the rear axle had a nylon gear pressed on to it and could be changed to increase top end speed or acceleration for a Dragster on a straight track .
Here's a link to the inside view and noise of a Snow Cat for the speed and bounce .
