Am I the only one that thinks chino sounds good in this? Even if it's sick and he's stressing his voice I hear it as his emotions are bleeding through his singing. It's amazing imo
I'm literally here whilst watching Entertain Me: A Film About Deftones, and him saying how his vocals were wrecked. I think he did a fucking amazing job! You can hear the strain in some parts, but for the most of the track, fucking amazing!
I don't think his voice sounds that different to how I usually hear him sound. Live is always kind of a crap shoot for vocalists in terms of monitors and performance etc anyway and if the singer is moving around they aren't in the optimum singing position like a studio. If you listen to Dave Grohl live he's all over the place because he's so busy pogo-ing around on stage
I hate to break it to you guys but around this time (early 2000's) Chino had severely blown out his vocal chords due to long periods of extreme live performances and was never able to fully recover his iconic voice of the first 2 albums the Deftones had created. I've been a fan for more than 2 decades and I had easily noticed the differences throughout the years of their albums and the live performances themselves. Plus you would be lying to yourself if you actually disagree with me. But of course, this is normal and happens with a lot of singers in the music industry, especially if your vocal style consists with a large amount of screaming.
I like how people say Chino was high or something when he actually was very sick and was stressing all day about this performance because he coudnt sing that day,you can see it in a documentary :D
One of the MANY reasons I love Conan. He always gave the 'Tones a place to showcase their different and interesting style of music. No other late night host has had them on as many times as him. Love the Deftones till the day I fucking die and Conan is a motherfucking G for fucking with them. I guarantee he rides around listening to the Deftones on the daily haha for real
7th grade to my senior year, I jammed this song every first day of school. Deftones and At the drive in got me through adolescence. Them and a bunch of weed.
Conan is a legend for having these bands on back in the day. Sevendust, Slipknot, Deftones, etc. The best part was, they didn't try to dial back the heaviness in the mix. They let them go RAW and it was/is amazing.
Think of it, chino's been singing for like 20 fucking years now screaming his vocal chords out of his throat. And of course we praise him for holding up so well, playing till this day. Much love to thedeftones and chi.
Lolol any deftones fan would know that chino had a fucked up throat because he was under the weather. Watch the documentary. Shoutsout to Chino. He still carried it out
My favorite band of all time. They've been killing it for over 3 decades. Chino now lives a half hour away from me and during this time, he completely destroyed his vocal chords, but only missed four shows. Abe Cunningham is one of my biggest influences on drums. Heavy, but creative. RIP, Chi. My band lost our bass player last year to gun violence, so if you see him say hi for me. I bet he'd love to jam with you!
You can tell Stephen wasn't the greatest guitarist back then. XD. That just shows that you don't have to be a guitar god to make respectable awesome music. That's what I find amazing about this band.
ballsonchin0069 - Yep, I can play their early stuff on guitar. Found a good drop C tab for this song. Agree with Ben. Some of the best guitar riffs are simple.
Steph is not a great technical player, but he has something you can not be taught. There is just something about his playing style. he is a very unique guitarist
I'm tired of people judging bands by the individual aspects. A band is the sum of all parts. Why is even worth mentioning the guitar players technical prowess? Being a good guitar player is not judged by one's ability to move their fingers really fast on a set scale. If all guitar players were like that music would be boring as shit. I'm sorry, I just really hate when people bring points like that up. It literally has nothing to do with anything.
They ruled and were so aggressive here I love it. I think I saw a behind the scenes video about this gig. Chino har the flu and it can be heard on his Vocal. But he still managed to own the stage like a true king 👑💖
Underrated? I think most Deftones fans and even casual metal listeners will all tell you that White Pony was an absolute masterpiece. Top 3 of their released albums by far.
i'm no druggie but i TOTALLY get deftones' music. they're one of my MOST fave bands in the world.. i really feel chino's emotion in almost all of their songs. they're sound is just different, nothing like it and it never fails to make me high, teary eyed, cry, i dont know.. it's just sensually intense..i'm hooked!
...SONG OF THE DAY!!! Same here. I'm about the only one on the school that know about this group. I love Deftones, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Payable On Death, Nickleback, etc.
I'm kinda conflicted about this song. In the one hand, it's the closest deftones come to nu metal, what with the faux rapping,on the other hand it's one of my most listened to in in their discography. I know it's a shortened and more single friendly version of the awesome pink maggit off of white pony. The way Chino sings/screams the transpose! Bit always gives me chills in either version.
It might be my guilty pleasure. It does have that cookie cutter nu metal sound, and pink maggit is far superior, but sometimes it’s just a good song to blast and jam out to. I personally don’t consider it as part of white pony, and it’s not one of the greats in their discography by any means, but I mean.. it’s kind of fun
Ironically, it seems the band feels the same way about it. They were vocal about how its just a calculated move to shift units on their part that they resented having to do, but on the contrary they played it live a few times but only played a snippet of Pink Maggit to my knowledge.
@@bigballz4u i really think it’s beautiful tho , back to school is super hype aggressive . and pink maggit is very eerie and dark . it’s crazy how similar songs sound completely different
