Yes, you are. I saw Miles playing down here in Brazil less than two weeks after Robben left to record his first album for Warner (I know that now), BUT...I had a very nice compensation: less than two years later Robben and his band were playing in my town. :-) I had a chance to talk to him after the show. Very nice person, amazing musician.
I've been a fan of Robben for a few decades now. It doesn't matter what gear he uses, he always sounds like himself. He has an instantly recognizable style.
I was lucky enough to see Robben, for the first time, at Buddy Guy's Legends in Chicago on his Tiger Walk tour. What a killer show. He is an exceptional musician!!
No doubt. My favorite guitarist. Solo albums and Jing Chi trio releases all bare testimony to his Mastery and Greatness. If I quite recall, the show that I had wanted to see and probably missed was his involvement with drummer Lenny White in a group named NU BREW over at the now defunct BB King's in NYC some years ago.
Robben is a monster! If you haven't seen him live you've missed a legend, unbelieveable player, performer, and always has fantastic musicians with him.
Your big 4 is similar to my Mt. Rushmore of Jazz-Rock guitarists: Ford, Scofield, Carlton, and Mike Stern. Doesn't mean I don't have love for Metheny though; Pat's playing is killer.
There's something about the openness of a Riviera. I had one back in the day but the house was broken into in '90 and it was stolen. Insurance didn't give me much for it since they were a thing back then. If anyone stumbles across a sunburst like that but with a sloppily installed Ibanez stopbar (I was a starving musician at the time), that is mine.
He might not be the fastest guitarist on the planet, but still one of the greatest guitarist alive today!! He has played with so many great musical masters, just go check out his Bio! I saw Robben two weeks ago with his new band....unreal! he just keeps his music fresh and sophisticated!!! Total Class!!!
Norm - it's so nice you have retained that 'excited little boy' vibe after all these years.. Your love & respect just oozes from you. Love the fact that a monster player like Robben can sit and relax and play a while when guitar store 'life' is going on all around... How wonderful that this humble six stringed instrument can bring people together in such a passionate way. By the way - God bless those who lost their lives and were injured in Boston - from across the pond..
I was a serious fan of that guitar, and what he was playing at that time. I saw him at Bakers lounge in Detroit, many years ago. He was using all Yamaha. 2 Yamaha G100 amps, and the double cutaway solid body. I think it was a SBG 2000. He sounded great with that, and those are TRANSISTOR amps. He was with Yellow Jackets.
Nice. I would have liked to hear Robben play a little more. What's that he's playing? I liked the sound better than the blue cube thing...cleaner. Thanks, kids 🙂
So that must be the place where he purchased his '53 Tele. Obliged shop owner and down to earth Robben (flying all over the world) meet again. Guess amp that sounds so good is a Fender blues junior III.
Alvin Samson I got to the bottom of this Scooby-Doo mystery. I asked the fine people at Norman's Rare Guitars. And one of the managers wrote back to me and let me know it was a mid 60's Fender Super Reverb. No wonder it sounds so good!
Robben is as fast as he wants to be. Sometimes you can say a lot more with three simple notes than a blistering fret board excursion. Check out the version of "Mellow Down Easy" he did with his brother Mark and the Blue Line guys. It's not humanly possible to play like that.
Grammatical Erorr Clapton would probably say the same. If you read his book or his interviews, he seems to know how good he is, but he always praises people like Albert Lee more.
Man, Clapton is so overrated. I can't say anything because anytime you comment on a famous musician people like to rub your and that musician's comparative success in your face, but I really don't see how he managed to become the household name for blues guitar playing.
@@Riffs_and_lifts I reckon it's like anything, people from a long time ago weren't as advanced because it was a new thing but Clapton inspired so many of the best ever. His stuff now seems basic because in comparison it is to what guys can do in ability now but think about at the time. Who was actually doing what he did at the time of say Cream, Beano Album? Certainley no one did what Cream did bar Hendrix who always had high admiration for Clapton.
+fattirevsbud That's a 60's epiphone Riviera (or casino, but fairly sure it's a riviera). That's basically a Gibson with a different headstock. It is NOT the epiphones made today, besides the gibson limited runs or the japanese masterbuilts. This was during a period when Epiphones were built in the USA at Gibsons Kalamazoo plant, not overseas by Samick or World Music in Indonesia and China. Not saying those are bad as a rule, but they are not remotely the same thing. That's a 3k guitar, a new one is a $300 dollar guitar, big difference build quality wise.
If you haven’t heard Robben live make it an objective. Hope he comes back to the USA. From time to time.
Normans's favorite and our favorite guitar player !! RF 🤟🤟🤟
I saw Robben with Miles Davis.... I am a lucky man.
.....very lucky.....wow!

Some days, when I think I've had enough of listening to middle aged white guys playing blues licks... Robben Ford always makes me reconsider.
;)
+SleepyCreek Robben and Larry Carlton,,,,, what a gift to us mere mortals!
thx for the middle age" comment
Im middle aged at 47...he's an old dude
The blues belongs to everybody - even so-called “middle-aged white guys”
@@jlr022159 But not many do it justice like Robben Ford.
Mr. Ford has one of the most unique pick attacks I've had the pleasure of listening to, very bright and dynamic.
Robben is a true legend. I have no words that can truly describe the man and his musicianship.
I'm impressed with Robben's ability to stay real and humble despite all the adulation he receives.
I've been a fan of Robben for a few decades now. It doesn't matter what gear he uses, he always sounds like himself. He has an instantly recognizable style.

Check out John Bruhnke and Sonic Soul at Ledgends -- friend of Robben's
Thank you Norman for the interview. Awesome Robben !!!!
decades of inspiration to me...thanks Robben
Robben Ford will always be a great inspiration for good talent
Very sad to know we have lost Robben to Paris. Nothing but best wishes for his continued success.
One of the rare blues players that know what to play, when to play and when not to play......one of my all time faves.
A guitarists guitarist! I Love his style.
He's in his 60's, and can play circles around all of us. Kudos to him for being some sort of musical ninja.
Is 70 now.
Robben is amazing! I am a L-O-N-G time devoted fan of Robben's guitar mastery and music.
No doubt. My favorite guitarist. Solo albums and Jing Chi trio releases all bare testimony to his Mastery and Greatness. Robben could make a tissue box with elastic bands sound magical.
Robben is a monster! If you haven't seen him live you've missed a legend,
unbelieveable player, performer, and always has fantastic musicians with him.
Ticket in my pocket for a next concert in France!
Man for me the big four nowadays are LARRY CARLTON, PAT METHENEY, JOHN SCOTFIELD and ROBBEN FORD. Robben is the only one i havent seen!!!!!!
Your big 4 is similar to my Mt. Rushmore of Jazz-Rock guitarists: Ford, Scofield, Carlton, and Mike Stern. Doesn't mean I don't have love for Metheny though; Pat's playing is killer.
lovely interview wonderful man , uh men
damn that dude is a legend. never heard of him but what a resume. his life would make a killer movie

Keep them coming Norm, love these and the "Secret Stash" uploads. Hope to get down your way soon and find a guitar that says "take me home."
ROBIN FORD MELODY BLUES FIRE TOUCH ! SO GREAT!
beautiful tone. tasteful playing.
Young guitar people. You need to know who Robben Ford is.
The man is from the Dagobah system. Versatile beast.
Cheers 🍷
Really enjoying the 1960 Jazzmaster Norm! Thanks for the great deal. Can't wait to get that 62 strat :)
lucky norman to have watched robben ford growing up both musically as well as a human being...
Great tone and feel as always!
Would love to see him in Buffalo. Thanks for the interview. Wonder if He'll ever get together and do another Jing-Chi Album/CD.
simply awesome . 10 / 10

Speed is secondary ,guitarists that very fast wear their welcome out real quick!

I've seen Norm sell snow cones to Eskimos what a guy!
One week from tonight in Seattle at the Tripe Door. Can't beat that, going to be killer.
Thumbs Up If Want To See Robben Ford Play His old Fender Ultra Signature Guitar Again.
I was a serious fan of that guitar, and what he was playing at that time. I saw him at Bakers lounge in Detroit, many years ago. “The Great Robben Ford” is Right. Tasty Beast
Absolutely. Love Larry Carlton too. They both together are just amazing.
Nice. I would have liked to hear Robben play a little more. What's that he's playing? I liked the sound better than the blue cube thing...cleaner. Thanks, kids 🙂
robbens so awesome!
Saw him a week ago. Unbelievable
Some great newer players coming around ( Josh Smith, Matt schowensonethin, Kirk fletcher) but none are yet where Robben is in his playing....not yet
Now this guy is a guitar player...
Such a nice guy mr ford
I have three VHS tapes of Robben's lesson..He can smoke em all...He is a guitar players GUITARIST..
My sis has a 345 with Bigsby original owner. Gorgeous
Hey at least Norm didn't let his son dance while Robben was trying to play.
So that must be the place where he purchased his '53 Tele. Obliged shop owner and down to earth Robben (flying all over the world) meet again.
Guess amp that sounds so good is a Fender blues junior III.
Rob Olykan Does Robben have a 53'?
I think it's 60's Tele.
Yeah, just commenting on his looks; he is great and I even have his blues lessons on my hard drive.
Those people in the background/noise couldn't be quiet for the video?
Norman needs the sales
I played with that old epiphone bigsby on a studio for a recording i was doing ...great guitar makes an original gibson feel like shit xD..
I wonder what amp he's plugged into there. It's got a really nice tone.
Riviera
Alvin Samson
Rivera or Riviera? I've heard of a Rivera, but not a Riviera.
Sorry,I mean Rivera
Alvin Samson

Alright,I heard them talk about Rivera so I supposed that was the amp he was playing through.
Best blue's guitarist ever
Robben is a nice cat...

Well said. at that level speed is just a given, everything he plays seems flows at the same velocity. Amazing player.
John Buffaloe never seen guitar and harmonica lock like that before or since him and Mark
COOL
Robben RULES the roost!
Robben is that dude. Tell him to give me his dumble
So thats where he got the epiphone riviera!
Connor it's a Riviera
be quite in the background!!
I love Robbens playing for sure but. He always looks like my aunt gurdy from a distance. Maybe trim the hair a little.
He is definitely a Living Legend. Robben Ford > Eric Clapton. Just sayin'..
Grammatical Erorr Clapton would probably say the same. If you read his book or his interviews, he seems to know how good he is, but he always praises people like Albert Lee more.

Claptons garbage

I think he looks more like a Guitar Gandalf rather than a ninja.
Robben looks like he could be Alex Grey's brother.
"Like butta"
WHat'sthe model Epiphone what? Hey if it's good enough for Robben it's good enough for me (pronounced with ELmer FUdd's voice) haha
+fattirevsbud That's a 60's epiphone Riviera (or casino, but fairly sure it's a riviera). That's basically a Gibson with a different headstock. Matt Grimmer You are right. Epiphone made great guitars by themselves, and then for a period under Gibson ownership.
this has to be annoying, when norm comes up and shoots a vid while these guys are trying out these cool guitars. ;)
God, he looks old here.
get Yngwie in there!
N
Me aburre el blues.
