I love Robben so frickin' much!!! He signed my Strat's headstock in Vienna :D Now I have a signature Robben Ford Strat :)))
Unbelievable phrasing in that last improv. That is why no one can really imitate Robben well.
I'm glad he is still playing, with the same elegance on chords and soloing!
Thank you for being a great musical inspiration Mr.Robben Ford !!!
i love you robben ford.. not only a great guitar player but also a wonderfull teacher
Just imagine to have him as your guitar teacher. The way he brings these things across is another mastership in it's own right. Besides the undoubted guitar master skills. And seems to be just the nicest guy too.
robben is the perfect blend of jazz and blues; he bridges the two seamlessly.
Robben is such a thoughtful, insightful teacher - he's just the total package of what a great musician should be.
The master!! On my Mt Rushmore of guitar players
You did make up your own mind Mr Ford, you chose both, and we love you for your amazing Blazz music. Long may you play.
Robbin, I enjoy this playing so much! I to try incorporate jazz in the blues as well. I just wish I would have started years ago instead of in my 60s
That example he gave at the end was just incredible
As long as there is a guitar and a creative mind great music will never end. Robben is such a unique player who knows what he's playing and explains it in laymen terms.
This is one of the best lessons Ive seen on youtube.
Robben I still have your Robben Ford PLAYIN'THE BLUES ONE HOUR VIDEO TAPE. It was the first guitar musical tape I purchased. Your playing on that tape was out of this world. I still watch it. It will never go old in my book. Your MATERCLASS no doubt about that.
Free lessons from Robben. What? ♫ That is a great sounding tele.
Great information from a great player thanx. Mr ford. For helpin me with my ear. Thank you
I love the spring reverb he has on his guitar here! What an inspiration! Thanks Robben! :-)
You are an amazing teacher
A true guitar god!
That blues at the end gave me life!
thank you soooo much that was educational as well as inspiring. great guitar playing !
Such a great guitarist and a natural teacher
could sit here and just listen to that man playing for hours.
I learned I'm not the only one that can't/won't make up his mind. Thanks for the lesson, very helpful.
The Master
Such a great guitar player! He really has a true unique style that really no one can copy!
the more I grow as a musician, and as a human being, the more i appreciate the music and the teachings and words of Robben Ford...and I began with Vai Satriani Yngwie....but then Duane Allman appeared, and everything changed, then George Benson, Wes Montgomery, and finally a mix of rock and jazz, Lukather, Martino, Carlton....horn players too, Miles, Grover Washington Jr, Sanborn, Marsalis....but i gotta tell you guys, you know what i still play in my car everyday?? Megadeth, Sepultura, Anthrax, black Flag, Ramones,...no better shit to drive on
Robben Ford el mejor de los mejores !!!!
See, I love your mix of Blues with jazz. Cant stand players who do jazz or modes to separate themselves from the crowd. But don't separate themselves. Glad you never made up your mind Robben
thank you Master!!! Amazing
Robben's solo on "Rush Hour" from The Yellowjackets debut album is, IMHO, still one of the best guitar solos I've ever heard.
Did you ever check out his solo on a tune called"pass it on" off the second yellow jackets record?
@@davidsheriff9274 Absolutely! Robben plays tasty solos. I love the whole album.
Robben was a sax player too, so helped his playing.
4 or 5 techniques for jazz blues. Diminished, playing chromatic, approach notes, mixolydian on the root e.g. G or dorian off the 5th (d)..just for starters. Please try this you will see a difference or play notes of 13ths, altered, 7ths, 9ths...play the notes in the chords. Listening to him for 30 years helped me so much
Ha. I didn't realize that first lick was traditional. I heard Bireli Lagrene play that in his recording of Too Good to be True with Sylvain Luc and flipped out for a second it sounded so good to me. Maybe I need to listen more jazz.
The last example is mind blowing.
+Agtronic I totally agree. Like a real master he plays beautiful music and looks relaxed like is writing the grocery list.... He's a true guitar god
You play so smooth !!!!!!!!!
Great master!
very sweet!!!
It's one thing to learn chords and scales. . . another thing, altogether, to make compelling music with them!
Vous êtes un super guitariste and you like hendrix clapton magnifique
Ah he's saying over G 13 and G alt THE SCALES USED are , Melodic Minor (Typically subbed for the I chord ,)G W 1/2 Diminished (Asymmetrical) G Aeolian b6 (5th mode of Mel Min and G Super Locrian (Mel Min a 1/2 up from root ,The interesting thing is you can create Diminished chromatics from the diminished ladders associated with those subs
Another way to get what he is talking about is . G min7 chord = Dorianb2 (2ed mode of Mel min) Dorian b2 contains the G min pentatonic . You are playing the 2ed mode of Mel minor so F melodic minor . The vi chord of Mel min is D min7b5 .That is Diminished you can play the diminished scale right over the vi th degree of mel minor,as a substitution . if you cycle that up a minor 3ed you find you can play the Diminished on F if you cycle that up another minor 3ed you will be on Ab. That would mean you can go down a half step and play G 1/2 Whole Diminished A K A G Asymmetric . You can cycle around that way You could also say the key is F major and the 7 chord of major is E Minor 7b5 and play E diminished W 1/2 and Eb 1/2 W . Combining those two things,is known as . Diminished Chromatic. You can target your chord tones with these Jazz patterns
Nice!
Woof!!
It's interesting that Robben says that he couldn't get into jazz guitarists but he was inspired by jazz sax players. I reckon that is to do with "the sound". It amazes me that so many post-Charlie Christian guitarists adopted a bland sound. I've heard albums by Herb Ellis, Tal Farlow etc where the sound is so uninspiring BUT just listen to their contemporaries on the sax and it's just so much more vital and exciting.
👌👌👌😁
You can hear Robben Ford's influence in some of the up and coming younger blues players. Check out Kirk Fletcher and Josh Smith.
Josh above all and also a powerful voice. If you hear Josh's playing there is a lot of jazz inside his style and that's the reason I put him as a premiere guitar voice of this time.
Mi M Cool! If you have any friends in the Bay Area, Josh is playing at Biscuits and Blues this Friday night.
I would love to be there! This year I have been to a Robben's clinic close to my home and it was good time spent along with him.
a Master
I've learnt something from this little session that we've had together & that is I've missed the boat for nimble fingers & the brain is on information overload. I can at least enjoy viscerally
wow
The G to Db is also a tritone substitution.
Hey,
Great Lesson.
Where Can i find the chords / tabs of this lesson ?
Thanks,
If I didn't have the guitar i think I would have went with the sax!!!!
petite erreur de traduction en français: c'est Ab mineur mélodique et non pas A# mineur mélodique !
yeah baby, you can take that info to the bank!!
Not listening to Roger seems to have working out pretty well.
Is that G13 is that the chord in stormy monday ?
very close to the original theme to startrek at 7:oo.
Yes, where can we find the tabs for this one...please let us know...thnaks.
Frankly I hate the blues but I do love Robben’s playing. Great bloke too.

Tab is for guitar retards 🤪
Bien sûr mais heureusement qu ils ont existés lol
I just wish he'd get rid of the scarf. If he's cold he should go inside. The rest if just awesome stuff. He is definitely one of the greats.
Steve Ossias Are you kidding me? With all the value in this video you are focused on apparel? What next.....his hair I suppose. Get a grip.
It's hardly something to comment on but that's the beauty of free expression. I don't fault Robben for it. Sorry you're offended. As I said, I love his stuff. I'll be seeing his show this Sat. night in CT. And I don't care what he wears.
Steve Ossias You have a funny way of expressing how you don't care what he wears... LoL
Gregory Erba I love it! Your comment, that is. LOL
+Steve Ossias Perhaps he's going somewhere.
i wonder what gauge of strings he plays
He has said in another video he has 10 gauge strings on that Tele
10s!!!!
You kill me dead..opened up a can of worms i can get closed....i no linger have any sense of right or wrong in blues...its all good if i go whete i want to end
can anyone figure out the sliding chord he plays at 2:41?
+MsBenballs thumb 4th fret 6th string, bar 2nd 3rd 4th strings at 4th fret, 1st string 6th fret. move up/down/up 1 fret. G#m9 - Am9 or Bmaj7/G# - Cmaj7/A?? (sorry, my theory is lacking)
Probably BM7/F# to CM7/G ( XX4446 to XX5557 )
for me C#9add6 and D9add6
La traduction est bourrée d'erreurs ...
When Rodger ask you to make up your mind I can see why you must be really hard to follow!!!
those chords are 100% jazz not blues
if t bone walker is jazz to you, you may be right :-)
