So you're the guy I want to ask...which gear Robben used in the making of Tiger Walk? I heard it through phones and the tones just blows my mind.

Wow. Great info! I never knew Robben played an SA2000 on the first Yellowjackets album. I knew he used a Yamaha amp on that album. I have a late 70s SA2000. Thanks again for the rundown!

    Great video.
My fav tone of Robben’s is with his Epip Riviera on the Coming Back Home album. In particular, Birds Nest Bound. So much twang! Gorgeous.

Hi Ramon: great job as always. Note that Robben Ford also used 2 guitars made especially for him by Jol Dantzig in the 2010's. Superbly crafted and great sounding guitars as well. Can be seen on his videos Live in Paris and in Lugano back in 2010. To me, best sounding tones ever... Cheers !

I think that there is a bit confusion in the video about Esprits and RF sigs: they were all chambered (i.e. "special tone chambers") and only model with solid body was RF Elite FM. I was really into RF when those three models came out (Frontline magazine issues had specs then) and was really baffled then. I still have Esprit Standard from '85 and other than pickups and roller bridge, it's among nicest built guitars I've ever hold my hands on/owned. And it is definitely chambered. Anyway, great content - thank for sharing and cheers from Finland!

Excellent vidéo and amazing research Ramon ! However ,Robben, before the hot rails 54 Strat played with Miles Davis in 86 ,started using Strats earlier: in 81 ruclips.net/video/qM-gSeBjKk8/видео.html another one in the middle of this fantastic concert in 84 ruclips.net/video/TX4Bn2_7Y3w/видео.html , and at some point fitted with EMG pick ups ( not found on the net ) and I think also an Elite Strat with Miles Davis .
Thanks for all your great vidéos ,your channel is like a golden mine .

I believe Paul Desmond wrote Take Five, not Dave Brubeck. Obviously Dave Brubeck recorded Take Five with Paul Desmond but it was Paul who wrote the tune.

So Robben never played the Fender Esprit signature model on any of his studio records, he only used vintage on all The Blue Line records and played the fender on gigs? I didn't know that. Where did he say that? He's on the cover of Talk to Your Daughter and Handful of Blues with the Fender. The Talk to your Daughter record sounds like the Ultra,I used to see Robben a lot in the late eighties at a club in New York called Mikell's and he always played that guitar and it sounded like the record.

I’m taking about the albums not live work. He used his other guitars for recording as well as the esprit. Most folk think he only used an esprit for recording, look on the back of mystic mile for evidence. Don’t take an extremist view on this

I saw Robben several times live and he always had a great sound - except one gig where he used mainly the Epiphone. That wasn't so good, I thought he had lost his tone. But fortunately he 'recovered' with the Les Pauls . One important aspect of his tone is the Dumble amp. There are not many guitars that sound bad with a Dumble ....

Is the Fender Robben ford Signature made in Japan a low-cost model?

    • @Rich915
      @Rich915 5 месяцев назад +1

Not really. Made at the Fujigen Factory in Japan.
I had an Ultra SP model that I bought at Guitar Center. Paid $1500 for it used.
Chambered with Alder body & carved Spruce top. Robben signed it for one nite at a gig at Yoshis. Ended-up selling it for $3k. Was too heavy for me. I prefer lightweight guitars. The Japanese RF models were not cheap by any means.

Nice guitar history. There's one guitar that is missing in the Inside Story/Yellowjackets era, which is a black Stratocaster with an humbucker bridge pickup. There's the video where he's playin it:
    ruclips.net/video/lNZJ9-ucBLs/видео.htmlsi=jBQsmDcsJpFezzvf
Actually I think is kind of rare, because it's the only performance recorded where we can see him playing a Strat in 1980, also with that pickup configuration. Probably was a guitar that he owned for a short time, I think that can be the guitar on Matinee Idol from the first Yellowjackets record, which as a stratty tone.

Few years ago I was walking through the center of Rome and I heard an incredible sound from a far electric guitar. Almost I run to see what damn it was, and I discovered that was a Camaro (a very cheap italian guitar, made in China, with fake P90).
