  • I hope this new UPDATED sound fix for the Atgames Legends Pinball works for you much better than the previous fix... which was more of a compromise with trade-offs.
    Special thanks to George Lin from the Official Atgames Fan Page on Facebook for coming up with this fix, 100% of the credit goes to you.

    Thanks so much for providing this video and to George for his technical knowledge. I had trouble with my original ALP control panel buzzing and figured it would get fixed when I replaced it with the new Arcade Control Panel. It was worse. This past weekend I followed your video: attached nuts to the exciters with the double sided tape and even found that the panel was loose as well. The double sided tape I had was not a foam-based item like yours but more thin and malleable, so I used a piece of that under both sides of the panel instead of felt. It is incredible! No more buzzing! Even the really heavy bass tables (I'm looking at you, Space Invaders) sound awesome with no distortion. Thanks again for a great video. It really helped!

    Ok, so thank you for all of the tips from the video and from the comments on this video, I tried them all to end the rattling. They helped, I’m sure BUT I think I found a big factor in the ongoing sound issue/rattle by the controls.
    Before you load your pinball board make sure your main page volume (use the buttons by the back glass) is set at a decent level (like 80) and THEN load your board if you want it to sound right.
    What I noticed is that when you have your main screen volume low (like 10) before you enter the board… the sound is gonna be jacked up when the board starts, and your gonna see you get a lot more sound trying to be pushed through the speakers/vibrators near your hands for some reason… try it…
    Go back at the main screen, use your manual volume controls and turn the volume up to 80-100 or so, and NOW load the board…. Hopefully it’s a win.
    I don’t know the science, I don’t know the reason, but my machine sounds beautiful when ensuring that the main screen has a high volume going into the pinball game.
    My presets were the (90,55,45) you guys said to do, thanks again!

    80s arcade pins often defaulted to 'obnoxiously loud' in order to attract players over the din on a commercial arcade. I know because I used to have seven of them in my game room and it was insanely loud in there if all were powered up. So, when I first bought my atgames pin, I thought there must have been something wrong with it. I ended up modifying to hold larger speakers. I used no external speaker drivers, but even so, the bass response improved dramatically.

    Thanks for the video! I think this helped, but games with a lot of bass still rattle the panel quite a bit. I was just able to completely stop it by sliding playing cards under the left and right sides of the front bar and adding more until the buzzing went away. I have four on the left and three on the right. A temporary fix at best, but surprisingly worked better than the rubber pads I had put under the bar. So ridiculous that I have to do all this after shelling out so much cash! AtGames support was of no help whatsoever, acting as if this were an isolated incident. Ha! I have the stock control panel. My unit is relatively new and I was about to open this thing up! Then, I tried the new Taito table packs. I noticed the audio was mixed so that nothing was distorted and the exciters were dialed in. Pretty much like it should have been in the first place. But my original tables were still off the charts with the audio and rumble. After a firmware update yesterday, I can now set every single table to the same audio mix. Even Rescue 911 and Wipeout with the super loud helicopter and drum solo respectively, sound quite nice in the mix and don't buzz anymore. I was really concerned about this, so hopefully the trend continues.

    This was a great video. And glad you gave credit for the fix. New to Virtual pinball. Couldn't wait to get this open and running.
    Not hating. Not mad. Just curious...
    Question: Why does it seem that no one is upset or angry at the Atgames company? Surely they knew there was major problems with the exciters. And were sending out a faulty product.
    I went to their RUclips videos and I did not see that they posted any fix, themselves. I saw no acknowledgement of the issue at all. So, curious, why is everyone so unbelievably ok with this?

    • @show-me-retro
      @show-me-retro  3 года назад +3

      That's a great question. I think people, including myself have just come to accept that Atgames probably isn't going to fix the problem until the next ALP revision with a different design. I also think they just want people ro set the levels low enough as ro not cause any rattling and buzzing but those settings are far too low ro hear and feel the things you should when playing pinball at normal levels. Trust me, I am upset but I suppose we're giving them a pass since Atgames is encouraging the community to modify their machines ro enjoy them however they choose... by adding pc support, vibs board, control panels etc. They probably feel the majority of the ALP buyers will just fix it themselves or improve on the design.
      That's just my opinion... hope that answers your question

    • @FilthTribeFTP
      @FilthTribeFTP 2 года назад +3

      1 word..... Price. We've accepted the fact that for $699 compared to crappy A1U tables, a little needed modding is fine, if that's the worst thing. Yeah it sucks and they should really acknowledge the issue, but what can ya do?

    • @guydoriansr
      @guydoriansr 2 года назад

      @@FilthTribeFTP Ditto. I fucking love this thing. A1up truly blows in comparison. I haven't changed my mind about the exciters. I had to just turn em off. But, for the price and how we figured out hooking up our pc... this thing rocks. Thanks to steam and PBFX3. But, I did still bolt from tech support from AtGLPB, because they said "The product isn't faulty. It's the setting." I know SOME people were able to fix the ones THEY received, with settings changes. But that didn't work with mine at all. Did a few different things past changing the settings. All kinds of tricks suggested, too. The ONLY people who really helped were the other costumers. AtGLPB support was lackluster at best. Nothing bugs me more than lying to my face. How, how, how can so many consumers know there were major issues with some of the exciters in some of the units (that could not be simply fixed by sound settings) and not the people who manufactured it? C'mon...... maaaan.

    Show-Me Retro,
    Thank you for the update! I ended up buying the controller panel add-on for my Legends Pinball and it had the same exciter problem (especially when using CoinOpsX). My solution? I just unplugged the exciters.
    I used your original volume settings back in the day, and my first impression was, just like you, I couldn't hear the music. I've since adjusted my volume settings, kind of like what you did now, so I could hear the music along with everything else. BUT, it doesn't fix every sound issue, unfortunately...
    The Legends Pinball has an overall volume issue when you switch between Gottlieb tables to Magic Pixel tables (Zaccaria and Taito) and vice versa. The Gottlieb tables play louder, so when I go from a Gottlieb table to a Zaccaria table, I have to turn up the main volume by 20% or more to hear the Zaccaria table clearly. Then if I switch back to a Gottlieb table from the Zaccaria table, I have to turn the main volume down by 20% or more, or it will be blasting loud. I do hope AtGames can figure out a solution for this and firmware it :)
    I'm glad you found a solution that works for you and that you shared it with the community. It's something I might consider in the future. For now, I'm just going to keep the exciters unplugged. Sure, I miss the haptic feedback, but Legends Pinball is still a good enough experience (for me) without it. I hope someday AtGames will find a solution to the exciter buzzing problem that doesn't require a hardmod, but at least what you showed was easy to perform :)
    Thanks again for sharing and have a great one!

    The "buzzing" is coming from the plastic pannel vibrating caused by the exciters. The plastic pannel has two screws on top with nothing on the bottom on the control pannel at least. I think it is the same with the original. My fix was putting gaffers tape underneath the plastic to absorb the vibrations though a thick foam would work better and then taping the plastic down on top. ATgames can fix this with a strip of foam around plastic edges under the plastic and having screws do keep the bottom part in place. That's all they need to do.

I noticed way too much bass rattling the front of the control panel while playing TX Sector last night. I did add the bolts with double sided tape. Okay, I have my ALP sounding the best it probably ever could -- Gottlieb, Zaccaria, and Taito games all loud and distortion-free. I can even use the ALP backbox speakers for my VPX and FP games and love it. I don't detect any haptics in OTG mode, but the audio is clear with good volume. If there's any buzz at all from the exciters I'm not able to hear it, and it was painfully obvious before making the one change that has made this machine sound as it should have on day one.
    Here's what I did:
    I was a bit aggravated that I was being prompted to sign into ArcadeNet every single time I turned on the machine, so I found a post on the Facebook ALP Fan Group that said to do the following:
    1. Do a factory reset of the ALP. This would mean losing any local data settings, but I would not have to enter my keys again for the purchased tables. To perform the reset you hold both the left-flipper and left-nudge buttons and turn on the machine. Don't release the buttons until the prompt appears for you to confirm that you want to do a factory reset. The process will take about 10 minutes or so.
    2. When the machine has fully booted back up you will be on the original firmware. Make sure you don't do anything before you join your ALP to your local network and login to the AtGames network. I used the QR code to do mine. Don't change any settings, and by all means *DO NOT* UPGRADE THE FIRMWARE yet. Verify that you can play one of the add-on tables. Once you have done that, return to a home screen and turn the machine off. Count to 10. Power up the ALP, and you should no longer need to login again -- your credentials should be saved.
    3. Here's where it gets really good. Upgrade to latest firmware. The updates are cumulative, so you can just accept the prompt to download and install the most recent version.
    4. When the ALP has rebooted be prepared to enjoy all of your tables without changing any of the audio defaults. I find having the audio button controls set to 70 is ample, and I needed to only adjust audio on the Zac and Taito games from the default of 50 to the values George Lin recommended. Maybe a tweak or two here and there, but not much. I left the haptic strength on medium, but even testing at High setting produced no buzzing from my Dayton exciters, and I can't hear the music being piped through the exciters at all -- only the effects. I have switched back-and-forth between Gottlieb and Magic Pixel tables, and all my settings are holding -- no weird drop in volume on the Zac tables that I had before.
    A side benefit is that the Gottlieb tables show an image on the backglass when stepping through the table menu. I hope someone here can give this procedure a try and verify that it isn't just me. I am not imagining anything, the sound is spectacular. I have been letting the music track from the MEDIEVAL MADNESS Future Pinball game play through the ALP speakers the whole time I have been typing this, and the fidelity is great.
    I suspect somewhere along the way AtGames did address the audio channeling to the exciters, but installing successive firmware updates alone kept inheriting the problem. It took a full reset to square one and a leap to the new firmware to fix it for good and all.

    Great video, but you shouldn’t have to fix this problem, we spend a lot of money on these machines and they should work right out of the box. Atgames needs to step up and provide a fix to the software. The problem is the music from the table is being pushed through the exciters and making the control panel vibrate and buzz. The exciters are just for the haptics. Does this fix work on the arcade control panel as well? Thanks for sharing.

    • @show-me-retro
      @show-me-retro  3 года назад

      Yeah, you're absolutely right and I didn't really want to get into the issue with Atgames in the video. It actually but was cut for time. I did this because it's clear they aren't going to do a hardware OR software fix until the next ALP revision. I'm also aware of what yhe actual problem is but I think that this is a pretty low tech and cheap fix which is why I decided to share.
      As far as it helping in the new control panel I cannot confirm. I'm waiting till a price drop since I believe it's way too expensive and the trackball is crap and needs a shim kit out of the box. But I'm happy with it now despite the previous sound problems. Appreciate the comment!

Also my tape doesn't have any foam insulation so I'm curious why your setup needed more maintenance. Then again my volume levels and haptic feedback are roughly half your settings.
