      Yes, there are different varieties. For plump roots you can grow witloof chicory. Radicchio variety is grown for chicory heads/leaves. check out this website who I'm an affiliate with. It seems they have these seeds. : www.trueleafmarket.com/products/endive-seeds-witloof-chicory?variant=31761906794611&source=pepperjam&publisherId=300507&clickId=4340685531&PepperJam&

    Why are Chicory roots good for you if one of the benefits of the plants is that they absorb heavy metals from the soil. Doesn't that mean that the roots would have heavy metals in them?

    • @SeedtoLife
      @SeedtoLife  25 дней назад

      Good question. Yes, but I thinks that's why growers have to follow regulations regarding food safety. Using a good quality can prevent health problems and provide micronutrients only in smaller quantities.

    Can I plant it in Saudi Arabia ,does it handle the heat?

    • @SeedtoLife
      @SeedtoLife  25 дней назад

      It is a cool season crop. You can try growing during winter months. In summers, the plants will bolt quickly and produce seeds. Once bolted, the leaves do not taste that great and are small. Also, plants put the entire energy in producing seeds and harvest is small.

    I am growing this plant and thought I would get radicchio hearts by now in the garden for few months

    • @SeedtoLife
      @SeedtoLife  Год назад

      I think it depends on the variety and climate (cold) . If you have a radicchio variety it should develop heads in about 2-2 1/2 months.

    Did you eat the green leaves or just wait for root?

    • @SeedtoLife
      @SeedtoLife  Год назад

      You can use the leaves in salads. They are edible. I didn't get a chance to eat the leaves the last time I grew them. I'll try them next time for sure. 🙂

      Hi, I can't send seeds as I'm not a seed seller. There are many regulations that one has to follow to share seeds.
      But, check out this website who I'm an affiliate with. It seems they have these seeds. Good luck with your research! : www.trueleafmarket.com/products/endive-seeds-witloof-chicory?variant=31761906794611&source=pepperjam&publisherId=300507&clickId=4340685531&PepperJam&

      Oh, recently when we had the similar problem, my husband put some traps near the garden bed. They work great. I feel bad for giving this suggestion as coincidentally it is World Rat Day today.

      @@SeedtoLife can we eat their flowers as well for just roots..? In one video I heard their leaves are bitter in taste. Is it?? In Pakistan and india it's growing season starts in March and April right..??

    • @SeedtoLife
      @SeedtoLife  Год назад +1

      Yes, you can eat the flowers, leaves, and roots. Flowers can be added to soups, salads, stir-fry or tea. Leaves are bitter and high in oxalic acid. It is better to cook them to reduce the bitterness. I think it is okay to start chicory in Pakistan and India anytime at least for homegardeners as we are blessed with decent weather throughout the year.
