SQ lab saddles also brilliant also bought due to your recommendations.. come on guys let’s get George to 8000 subs he’s an awesome guy and a trustworthy RUclipsr unlike many other channels … Pete 🚴🏻👍
Thank You Pete! I’m pinning your comment! I work at giving honest opinions and reviews on things that I use for myself doing long hours on the bike and that solve problems for my customers.
I have 2 😊 of Lake road lace ups, and a mtb lace up as well. I customized and repainted the stripes on the road ones, a conversion starter. The new ones look narrower, I hope not!! ❤ my Lakes Oh, I also have two pairs of winter boots.😊
Good to have you back! That's quite the collection of Lakes and lace-ups too! I have been thinking of some winter boots too. My hands and feet get so cold. The rest of my body can handle really cold weather but not my hands or feet. I made a footnote about the shoes being two different sizes so that might be the optical illusion for you. My shoes are 45 regular and the new shoes were 43 Wide
@SeeYouUpTheRoad I will admit it, I am a shoe fanatic hahah . I have a collection of Shimano RX800 mtbs and my old collection of the made in Italy Sidis. They are tucked away in the closet. The Lake mx146s are great. I also have the 304s, but I'm out here on the East Coast, where it gets cold. All about the marino wool layers and ski gloves, although my Bar Mitts arrived yesterday, just not sure I'm there yet, hahahhaha. Stay warm, my friend 🧡
I have 3 pairs of lace shoes. They are all comfortable but the Specialized shoes are not as comfortable as the other two. I attribute this to all the stitching's on the upper's. The GIRO shoes are damn near identical to that new shoe you're holding and are the most comfortable. So even though they look more plain and simple it provides the most comfort and once broken in has become my favorite shoe to wear on longer rides. I have ratchets on my Sidi and Fizik shoes and I don't even wear them anymore. I just haven't been able to throw them away yet because they are still in perfect condition. Maybe someday I'll come across someone in need of some 45.5 size shoes and I can donate them.
I've been riding Sidi Genius (ratchet and velcro) for decades. Two summers ago, I bought my first pair of lace-ups since the 80s (Adidas). I like them a lot.
Your Sidi's were more like slippers than performance road shoes by the time you replaced them 🤣 and yeah you are hard on BOA dials so laces might be the ticket for you 😄
I hear you! Lace up shoes are truly the way to go. Far too many people think they are quirky or for the old fogies or who knows what. They're missing out what more can we say
@@SeeYouUpTheRoad Also if you wear shoe covers, like I have to do because it's cold here, they look nicer than having lumps from the BOA dials and ratchets.
💯 spot on! Toe scuffs are totally real, and don't get me started on sizing discrepancy between companies...it's ridiculous!! Aren't those grippers in the heel actually silicone?
Thanks for watching! Sure they are probably silicone. I figured more people would know what rubber felt like on their heel. They felt like rubber to me no matter what you call it 🤣 Please consider subscribing
Hello Simone - I hear what you're saying. I think the CX21C is that shoe sans the leather. The CX20R is designed to be an ultra light version of a lace up shoe. My guess is you can't use leather and mesh to work as well as you can with Clarino Microfiber. From a sewing together, longevity, durability and maybe it would add too much "weight" From their website: "The CX20R offers a very lightweight, breathable and extremely adjustable upper that is available in 3 widths and women’s specific sizes. Utilizing Clarino microfiber, mesh, laces and Lake’s Handmade CFC 3K carbon fiber sole, this cycling shoe that can really do it all- from hot days to indoor riding." UPPER: Clarino Microfiber and high breathability mesh. This ultra minimal upper gives superior breathability & extremely lightweight while maintaining form & structure where needed. Thanks for watching!
@ yes indeed but I think such shoe is not suitable for all around riding but mainly for hot summer days. I think they have the MX20G which they classify as gravel shoes which they offer in clarino microfiber super breathable in blue (similar to the CX20R) and a more classic perforated clarino white color. I wish they did the same for the CX20R
I like the feel of laces too. Never owned Lake but I’ll look again. I’ve got some Dromarti’s that I really enjoy wearing on long rides. (Not vegan friendly though).
Interesting that you mention Dromarti shoes. I mentioned it in my video as I was referring to Jan Heine wearing them for his ultras. But I cut it out because the video was getting too long and I thought it was a random tangent. What is the ordering process like? Are they based in Europe? Do they have US distributors or retailers?
@ I drank the kool aid and went down the BQ quarterly rabbit hole for awhile. I got the Dromarti’s after Jan reviewed them wrote that he bought a second pair for when the first wears out. I’ve had mine several years and they’re holding up really well. Except a few scuffs from riding off road in them. (No toe bumper😉)
@ ordering my Dromarti’s was easy and delivery was swift. I think they came from Europe not the us but it was years ago. I ordered a couple sets of replacement laces after a few years and that was also easy and quick to arrive.
I have already the MX238 Gravel Beetle Green Clarino SPD with Dual Boa , really nice shoe. I like to add a road shoe. Only thing I would like to be improved is the secure heel grip. Is that effectively improved with the rubber material compared to the cat tongue material? I understand the lasts fit the same but the laces allow a more comfortable and secure/ thighter fit than the Boa ? So would you say from that perspective the CX21C is a better pick than the CX238?
Sometimes you have to move up a model to get a moldable heel counter. I think the new silicone in the heel will help as well. I prefer laces but it’s a personal choice. Unfortunately the only way to find out is to try them on
Looking at new on sale price or barely used road shoes marked down for the trainer. Trainer use just destroys road shoes much quicker then outside so not worth to get ultra expensive just to be destroyed in a year to 1.5 years when expecting longer use period. Trainer road shoes need the stiffness wit h breathabilty but not the highest cost. With boa system have mixed views. The trainer shoe is the old sworks from store trying to get rid of them at very low price after sitting for far too long, with 1 boa that comes slightly loose over the course of long ride with lower velco stap. Outside is an older mavic crossmax for cx errands/limited walking and the boa is much better then trainer shoe. Then shimano rx800 last colorway version for long road rides/gravel race and boa holds well but can be sticky when releasing when taking off shoe. Rachet plastic strap and buckle shoes worked well and lasted longer. Lace up cycling shoes have not been used yet. In process of going from mech disc to hydro disc from long/steeper descents brake fade, still better then years on cantis, but leaves something there wanting better. Do not want electric system but feel like forced to as wanting not have worry about batteries on long rides, internet apps working, etc. So it leaves finding older sram 22 hrd in excellent working condition or grx 820 options for everyday use gravel bike.
Man seems like I bought my CX333 to early. Changed to Specialized Torch Lace to have the adjustability of laces, but they wear out way to fast. The CX333 are wonderful, not as flimsy as the Specialzed but I wish I had the option of testing a Lake lace-up model, too. I think that's what people call FOMO. In regards to the replacing laces. Not as straight forward as you think. Need to find the right length, shape, and color or your shoes look awful 😅

FYI - are you interested in a pair of Dromarti handmade leather lace-ups? I'm looking to place an order for myself and another RUclips viewer.
I love lace up shoes, lets me fine tune the fit much better than BOA or other systems. Wish more shoe brands would offer a lace up option.

Love Lake shoes. My perfect fit is a 44.5 wide in the race last. I wish they made a leather/clarino upper version of the CX20R…

I really dig the blue color.

Depends on the color of your bike and clothes to match well 😉
