Congrats to that guy on his award! He was truly brave the way he completely ignored the hostage and waltzed out the door, gun up in the air, while cops angled off to properly shoot him and not the hostage. There may never be another like him.

props to the hostage btw, having the awareness to not follow him further than he was making her made that shot 10x easier, that and she dipped back inside once rounds started flying, good on her and good on the SWAT officers for landing some nice shots ending it fast

I think it's vile. Was the guy a scumbag? Yes. Was this shooting necessary? I can see the argument for it, sure. I watched a good few of his videos years ago and found them informative & educational, showing the other side of US police shootings to a foreigner like me. But stumbled upon a link to this video from somewhere else today and man he's gone downhill. This stupid sensationalist, gung-ho, "don't fuck with police" attitude is just sick. It doesn't help counter the extremists on the other side who want to defund policing.

If you dial 911 on your cellphone in California it automatically goes to CHP dispatch. The dispatcher determines from there where the call goes to after they are given the location the caller needs assistance from.

So? MA does the same thing. All emergency dispatching is done by the MSP.
Its not really that uncommon - usually they don't transfer you, they just dispatch the correct agencies directly. (those states also have state controlled radio networks)

Donut you are right. When I hear just what the victim was saying on the call, my gut started to cramp. A shotgun, hard drugs, violence, active assault. The day just went down the crapper. As an ex meth addict (I was on that crap for almost 20 years) I get so angry when people try to justify evil actions with "Awww, poor guy was just high" I am calling BS on that!
My normal routine was to be so wired I would not sleep and hardly eat for anywhere from 4-6 days, fact, so I am very familar with being super tweaked out
Guess what? Sure I said some crazy stuff, and like any true tweaker I could spend 15-20 hours on a completely useless project, but never, ever, did the drugs lead me to:
robbery, assault, sexual assault, violence, burglary, etc
Why? Simple, druggie that I became, I still had basic morals and never lost touch with common sense of right vs wrong
I am now 20 years clean and I did that on my own, n o govt funded programs needed, so let's just shelve any justifications for evil acts with "Poor guy, it was the drugs", No it wasn't, they just lowered his inhibitions so he could do acts he wanted to do anyway

The reason that CHP got the initial call was because she was on a cellphone. In some areas this is normal because some area’s dispatch centers can’t handle both cell and landline calls.
