Does the Airalo eSIM allow you to make calls? If so, which number would it use - a new local number specific to the country you are visiting or your original phone number from your original SIM in which case you'd be charged roaming fees?
Data only, I believe.

Do I need to activate the esim before I go to my destination country or once I get there please?
You mentioned I can get texts on my current number. Do I have to puchase a Data/Calls/Text package to avoid getting charged for roaming, or can I just get a Data plan? If I do purchase a Data/Calls/Text will that give me a new number or do I continue to use my current number?

No need to remove the sim. You just set the e-sim as the default instead!
I purchased an eSim for my travels in 2 days time to USA, I hadn't even activated it yet, but it started eating into my data, so not sure what happened there. I went into my settings and turned the eSim off until I get to the USA. My question was, when you purchase a global card, I should have purchased the local card, but able to use this one nonetheless. How do you add calls/texts to a 'just data' eSim, or can this not be done? Thanks.

How do you make a simple phone call with the new number on the eSim (Airalo). I keep getting a message that says "unrecognized number" so do I need to assume I'm calling internationally from Austria?

Too complicated to follow. I asked for a refund and it was refused. It's a sucker's purchase. Sim cards are inexpensive at the airports.

Don’t sell yourself cheap mate. I bought three eSims after watching this video. They worked for three days on and off and at low speed, then … nothing! Support was a joke. Entry level troubleshooters who couldn’t even understand the simple logic that if three phones with two different operating systems suddenly fall off a network altogether, this is definitely a network or account issue and not related to phone settings!!! Avoid at all cost! You are spending hundreds of dollars/pounds/euros etc. do yourself a favour and just use normal roaming. Don’t be cheap, you will thank me later.
