I've watched this movie so many times, for like ten years or so by now. It's such a great movie, but I also like how the songs in this movie are actually doing musicals right, and how it carries the original novel into a proper modern adaptation.
Until me and my friends stumbled upon this gem of a film one late night on Channel 4, I did not know that I needed this iconic gem of a song in my life.
This song is stuck in my head. "no life without wife" Oh how i love you kholi. The bit wherre hes walking up and down the front porch is funny as hell.
It was an interesting interpretation of Pride & Prejudce, but altogether a really pleasent movie to watch. I'd like to see it again. The lead girl has a wonderful voice. I like to hear her singing. Thanks for sharing this video. Peace be with you.
This has given me reason to buy white pjs and prance around ;D If ever there comes a time when my friends will ask me for the ideal husband, I shall sing this song. And they will never know where it comes from muahahahahaha ;D xx
I'd say the primary audience would be the global audience. People who grew up with Bollywood movies (and we're not all just in India!) would be able to appreciate it, and people who are more used to Hollywood movies wouldn't feel too alienated by the language and cultural differences. I think they got a perfect blend!
I have a memory of my sisand some of their friends rewatching this song over and over to get the choreography right. Then we did the whole things a couple of times then never again, lol
Whenever life gets too tough, this movie makes me sooo happy and I feel everything will be okay just like in the jane austen universe! Love this song ❤ By the way isn’t Aishwarya the quintessential Jane Austen heroine, both Lizzie and Marianne were portrayed by her perfectly onscreen ❤ Such a wonderful actress 💗
Oh I love this movie ♥ And Aihwarya Rai she is a wonderful woman =) This song and "Marriage town" are the best songs of the movie. But in this song the little girl has an other voice as in the movie! Lot of greets, MadeByLisa ;) ♥
I love this movie. She's such a badass feminist just like elizabeth bennet. Aishwarya Rai is the hottest women ever, if I was lesbian my first choice. That Darcy guy in the film is pretty hot. Ohh if your a big bollywood fan like me check out Ravaan Raavaan with Aishwarya they just came out.
3:38 Aishwarya Rai: "I just want a man who gives some back. Who talks to me and not my rack." (Meghna Kothari looks at Aishwarya's rack) Other vulgar scene is at start of movie when Mrs Bakshi says to her daughter Lakhi (with Aishwarya and Namrata in the scene): "But we want Balraj to look into Jaya's eyes, not your mammays (breasts)".
i'm dying to see this movie. It's got the musical part i like and the playful childishness from the book pride and prejudice. It's very unique. I hope to find it when I go to the video store...
This should be the anthem played when Indian, Asian, Jewish---whatever women are expected to just be grateful to be married off! "Gives some back---talks to me and not my rack!" Funny how different cultures . . . all want the same thing!
One of the most underrated films of all time...
facts bro
Factsssss
Still my favorite movie/musical themed
Ikr
So true! A movie that brings the west and the east together and that is one complicated job!
I've watched this movie so many times, for like ten years or so by now. It's such a great movie, but I also like how the songs in this movie are actually doing musicals right, and how it carries the original novel into a proper modern adaptation.
Completely agree on doing musicals right. Since 2010s, musical movies have just gone downhill.
Such a comfort movie! It flows so easily ,adapts so well and blends the east and the west! Bravo Gurinder Chadha!
the lady who did the soccer movie?
Until me and my friends stumbled upon this gem of a film one late night on Channel 4, I did not know that I needed this iconic gem of a song in my life.
Don't you just love how they're so unafraid to be all goofy and fun?
This song is stuck in my head.

Best version of Pride & Prejudice since the 1995 miniseries. My fellow Austenites were singing this song for months after watching the film.
I'd say the primary audience would be the global audience. People who grew up with Bollywood movies (and we're not all just in India!) would be able to appreciate it, and people who are more used to Hollywood movies wouldn't feel too alienated by the language and cultural differences.
I think they got a perfect blend!

3:38 Aishwarya Rai: "I just want a man who gives some back. Who talks to me and not my rack."
(Meghna Kothari looks at Aishwarya's rack)
Other vulgar scene is at start of movie when Mrs Bakshi says to her daughter Lakhi (with Aishwarya and Namrata in the scene):
"But we want Balraj to look into Jaya's eyes, not your mammays (breasts)".
I thought he said 'mummy's' as in "You should looked better than your mother."

"Gives some back---talks to me and not my rack!"
Funny how different cultures . . . all want the same thing!
