    um okay its basically about a guy who gets a girl, goes crazy about her and loses her. the thing about it is that he loved her so much that he had this mindset that shes a better person then she really is. this is what hurts him so bad, he thinks he lost "the one" for him when really she was just some bitch but his obsession over her blinded him into thinking otherwise. so the whole time hes trying to remind himself that she wasn't who he brought her to be. and through that realization he will finally get over her. until then the pain is going to build up.

    Corey Taylor wrote the songs from the viewpoint of a stalker. "The differences (between the two tracks) are subtle - 'Vermilion Pt. 1' is about the enrapturing, the buildup, the anticipation and the neurosis," says Taylor.[12] "'Part 2' is the aftermath, the pieces that have to be picked up later, and maybe the guilt of having lived through it".

    Part one is a manic obsession over his loss of her. Part two is the self actualization and remorse that she's not the angel he portrays her in his mind. In part one he won't let the pain of the loss build up inside of him. In part two he won't let his remorse of his realization build up inside of him.

    You two do a hell of a job breaking down songs. For most metalheads, (I can't speak for all of them, but definitely most of us), watching people take in this genre of music with an open mind is all we ever ask for. Once you start, it's so hard to stop. You just can't listen to a radio and find lyrics so deep. Once people get passed thinking the music is noise, there is no going back to other forms of music. Hearing the next metal song almost becomes an addiction. Great work with this channel.

    It's about unrequited love and realizing you have been putting someone on a pedestal in your mind and they will never be real because you've created someone else in your head. The violence in it is imagery, putting emotion into something visual.
    This song, for me personally, is something ii sing to myself. To the person ii show the world to cover up my depression. She isn't real...and ii won't let this build up inside of me..the unattainable...

    This song reminds me of Fernando Pessoa, a Portuguease Poet. He says that we just love the idealization of someone, using the face of someone we already knows. And when we find out who that person really is, the reality hurts. When we find out that the person who we supposedly loved is not the way we thought she were, the "reality" we've created just crash. And it hurts, for him, to live knowing that the person he loved "died" and "another one" lives inside her now. She is not real. And he can not make she becomes the one he loved. He cant make her real. At least, that's how I understand this song.

    This song could be interpreted in so many ways. It's like you have a deep love for someone. But you just don't want to feel it. You resist the emotions of falling in love. You just don't want it. And the girl loves him, but can't connect to them. And you're a person that just doesn't want to feel hurt again. So the perfect girl does not exist. Even when you think you met the perfect girl. Who treats you so well, but you refuse to believe it. That's what I get from it. She's always in your thoughts, but you just don't want to think of her, not taking it to the point of killing or possession. It's just about the emotions of love and how far it can take a person. Love is a scary thing.

    At times you take things literal, rather then metaphoricly... Art is abstract at times and the mindset of an artist is creative. She's dressed all in me, along with so many lyrics, could be taken in multiple views based on the person... It's all about perspective, Thats what I love about music.

  • @stevendeherrera2240
    @stevendeherrera2240 6 лет назад

    Comments from Corey Taylor about this song was the second part was written in a "aftermath" sort of way. The first was anticipation prior to. So the first lines are to denote the fact that "he" is looking at the aftermath of what he did... to "her." "Dressed in all of me, Stretched accross my shame" as in she's covered in what he has inflicted upon her and he's reflecting on his actions. "All the torment and the pain" covering him like guilt or loss not physical injury necessarily.

    If you get to know about Corey's life story, you kinda get his obsession! He grew up being cast aside and put down and actually didn't knew his father until he was already a famous Metal celeb! My take on it is that his perspective about the world, as he grew up, was shrouded with doubt about his self-worth anything and unanswered question like "am I lovable? or am I just innately undeserving of love?". When you grow with that kind of lenses to translate what you see and experience, and as you relive similiar situations (i.e. breaking up or feeling left behind) these questions tend to come about again and the fear of experiencing everything you struggled (or still struggle in the case of Corey) while growing up just becomes way much too real again. And as so, it's harder for you to cope with it. I like you just took 1 step foward and 2 backwards.
    I think for some reason this relationship just ended up becoming full of conflict, and probably wasn't bringing about the best in both Corey and Scarlett. An I think it ended up like the myth of eternal recurrence concept in psychology, where you try to resolve your past relationships (his abusive, anger filled, unloving childhood) by doing so in the present ones. The problem is the ambivalence of all of it! It's like a love-hate relationship! On one hand he is thrilled by the conflict and the making amends (coming home) while having these possessive feelings (that he doesn't want to allow to build up inside him) because she comes and goes and comes and goes, and on the other hand he just wants to look at her without anger and without resenting the fact that she makes him sad because, at that point in the relationship, she wasn't hard soil, but more like quicksand. It's a mix of what kind of person Corey what to be like and how in reality he can't be that person because this relationship is bringing this worse side of him.
    In the end, I think both vermillions represent that duality, the 2 façades of what Corey feels about and/or wanted from his ex-wife.

    The first song is about a man with schizophrenia who sees this girl and falls in love with her but then he realizes she isnt real and the "i wont let this build up inside of me" is the hatered of the mental illness and the sadness of her not being real, part 2 is him coming to terms with the illness inside him and accepting/morning that she isnt a real human being.

    e differences (between the two tracks) are subtle - 'Vermilion, Pt. 1' is about the enrapturing, the buildup, the anticipation and the neurosis," says Taylor. "'Part 2' is the aftermath, the pieces that have to be picked up later, and maybe the guilt of having lived through it." Both songs are said to be about lost or unrequited love from a possibly suicidal person's perspective.

    About progression of the song musical and lyrics -wise... And why I personally love both of the Vermillion series (not a popular opinion) is that I think they are basically one song, just divided into two pieces instead of making one 10 minute song. You kind of said it yourself - in the first part he was going mad, while in the second part he was chill, dealing with guilt and sorrow. They have some of the same lyrics and the melodies, but the output has changed completely and thus the mood (and even the message) of the song as well. So, what I love in these two is actually the progression. Even inside the song; In both of them you can see subtle changes. What I'm getting at is that by biding their time with the progression they are also making them feel more personal for me. Building up the atmosphere and creating this eerie feeling of being inside of his head, in the story. And I love how the feeling kind of slips through and I can relate to it through my own life experience and memories.
    I love progressive metal in general and songs like that from artists that don't usually fall into that category. But from my point of view the progression is *massively* there, it's just slower. Sort of like when you ask someone what music one considers "heavy". For me, it has nothing to do with drop b tuned djent guitars and blastbeats, but instead the atmosphere of the song. And this right here, for me, is heavy AF.

    Great video guys. I'm glad you didn't wait too long to do part 2 so that you could have the first one fresh on your minds. This is a tough song to really definitively decode from the lyrics. And I think that's on purpose. One thing to remember is that Corey Taylor writes from a twisted and disturbed perspective (Check out "the virus of life", same album I believe) So not everything is going to be or sound rational. Part two really focuses on her "not being real" and brings this to the listeners attention in different ways during the song. So Corey seems to be taking on the perspective of a person on a psychotic breakdown over the love of his life not being real (a delusion) and coming to terms of this fact. When you listen to Slipknot you have to keep in mind that he is writes songs from the perspective of Leatherface or Jason Voorhees himself, basically mentally, disturbed or horrific tones in a mainstream digestible way.

  • @Smithysmithin
    @Smithysmithin 6 лет назад +10

    I think youre very correct Vin. You see, in the first music video (even though you didnt show them, and its being solely based off lyrics here), it follows a woman. The art in it is amazing, you should show her it on your off time. But it follows her, then cuts to the band, and back, and in the video she finds them. And they remove their masks for a mask that is their face... But wax haha. Anyways, off topic. Well in the second video, part 2, its just her lifeless body floating in the air. So very possible that he killed her. The reason he is calmer in this one, i feel is that he completed his task. He got her, now hes done. But see the tone of this one is sadder. So even though hes done, hes sad, hes lost her completely. At his own hands possibly. And now hes covered in shame at what hes done. But i feel like when he says he wont let it build up, is that he wont let the anger and sadness build up. But your opinion is very possible. And i think i know which song youre gonna show next ;).

    I love both of your interpretations! My personal take is that he was figuratively killing the idea of a woman he was in a toxic relationship with. I think a lot of his shame was based on the changes in his personality as a result of his obsession with her. I was in a similar relationship with an older woman during my early 20s. (I'm 46 now). She turned my world upside down and tore my heart out. After 2 years of constant lying and infidelity I finally found the strength to walk away. During my time with her, I alienated my family and friends. I got over her by laying my idea of her to rest. I can tell you now, that there's nothing more painful ( and beautiful) as finding yourself again, after years of looking at a stranger in the mirror. Being in love with someone who never existed is a son-of-b!@#h! Vemillion is toxic, and so was she.

    Reminds me of an older Slipknot song.. not giving away the title 😁 but lyrics go, a black widow had offered me a sweet heart tube.. as I injected, the candid heart that I selected, she said don't hesitate just do what you have to do to me.. Now that was about a drug, which this song and pt 1 both are not necessarily only directed towards a woman, but something else albeit it materialistic, addiction, love hate etc. Dark poetry with 2 different emotions of the perspective. Good channel guys! Enjoyed it

    Thank you so much for this reaction, love the videos. If the trilogy thing you’re talking about is a live show of Vermillion you should do download 2009 by far the best show. Also the song you’re talking about might be “The Nameless” from vol. 3.

    The way I interpret this song is a man who infatuated with a woman who has no idea he has feelings for her, and he doesn’t know how to communicate his feelings: “catch in my throat, choke” and because of that it eats him up inside; “torn into pieces”. And he has an idea of a perfect relationship with her in his head, but this idea of perfection is just a fantasy and a dream he hopes for, hence: “she’s a myth that I have to believe in” and “she isn’t real, I can’t make her real”. I understand that Corey has his own meaning for writing this song, but my interpretation is the meaning of it for me.

    Heres 2 ways it can be interpreted especially if you look at song title... Vermilion = scarlet red.... So either exactly what he interpreted as or it could be about a affair that goes bad ( scarlet red = adultery )

    Sori's version of the song is actually more accurate than the whole "serial killer give me more" type of version than Vin has. In all respect, there was some gasping of straws in Vin's version. It's about accepting the fact that he will never be able to "attain" the ideal woman he's made in his mind about her. All of his thoughts becoming a personification of the type of woman he wants her to be. In short, unrequited love.

      VinAnd Sori Cant sleep lol. But I watch a lot of reaction videos on up coming bands like JinJer or Oceans Of Slumber for example as a supporter. And as a drummer, I dont always hone in on the lyrical content, despite my interest as a song writer. Odd right? So I like seeing how different the interpretations or perspectives are on the same song from channel to channel. But you two definitely give it more dialog and I think it is attributed to a mature factor. Some of the younger reactors really dont offer any intellectual original thought or input, they just watch the suggestions for the likes and JinJer for example a HUGE shock and awe reaction video, but I think no one values the music as it is or discussed it. Out of the 10+ videos ive seen, you guys actually went into the concept of what a Pisces is. You guys generously spend a good amount of time discussing the content. Most channels videos are 4-10 min, you double it. I also think channels like these become important for underground artists. I heard about JinJer and Oceans Of Slumber from Galactic Criminal and Lost In Vegas. So subbing and being able to reach out and have your work shared is not only great exposure, but it opens up dialog about the music which is valuable feedback most artists never get and thats cool. I get wordy.

    Corey Taylor apologizing to his fans. In Slipknot's albums, the key focus is a girl. In Volume 3, he tells his fans that the girl he has been singing about and doing all these horrible things to, wasn't real - he made her up! In this song, he says, "She isn't real!" He never tells you directly that she was a lie, hence "The subliminal verses

    I believe this is about his horrible divorce. If I'm correct, I do believe he drove himself a little mad in his grief. These two songs take you on a journey through that grief. He created an imaginary friend, or wife, and had to convince himself that she wasn't real. That might explain his cross-dressing in Snuff.

    These are both amazing songs, Idk why but i have always interpreted it as a stalker (which ik Corey Taylor has said it is) but i interpreted it as a stalker who cant have someone so he stalks and prepares to kill her and fighting with himself on what to do about how he feels thus him saying "i won't let this build up inside of me"

    The beauty of music...the interpretation by the listener. This is why art in general is very subjective. I love that both of you hear something different yet you can have a very intelligent conversation and listen to each others views. I find both versions interesting and I interpret the lyrics closely to Vin's views. After thinking about all this, do you think that people's interpretations can be affected by past experiences or even through fantasies? Not sure if I am asking that correctly but I could see how this song could be romanticized in a weird way.

    • @VinAndSori

    I think he gets to get close to her and after being with her he regrets of doing that, because he's not sure about her feelings. Something like that, I mean, that's the idea that I got from the song, I might be wrong, though. And I think he doesn't want to get this feelings for her build up inside him because that brings all the torment and the pain.
