Something that I only just now found out is that enemies do not respond above ground after you kill them. I absolutely hate this. Sometimes it’s just fun to go around the overworld killing enemies but you can’t do that anymore. In older games, the enemies would respond after a few days. I have no idea why they change this and I hate that they did change it
Pikmin 4 is clearly an alternate timeline. They directly reestablish that this is Olimar's, and by proxy the other characters', first time on PNF-404 and meeting the Pikmin. For instance, they directly note that the events of Pikmin 3 have not happened yet. We also know from Louie that the events of Pikmin 2 haven't happened yet, so no debt has occurred. As for the mention of the Goolix, it is well known that the species on PNF-404 are not native exclusively to that planet and are actually seen on other planets. This is very clear with the Grub Dog Family. And we also know that other characters in the universe study the wildlife. So Olimar is simply looking at other's notes on species such as the Goolix. Also, their reason to retcon is pretty simple; New Audience, new story. They don't really need any more reason than that, lol. Edit: Also also, they didn't really "get rid of the story" from the three prior games. By all accounts, that trilogy has concluded with the exception being the whole "What caused the crash at the beginning of the game" which future Pikmin games can still answer, since PNF-404 as a whole is fundamentally the same as it was in any other game.
I still think the reasoning for retconing everything is really stupid because of how unnecessary it is. If they wanted to do a reboot, then that’s fine but having a 4 at the end of the title but not continuing the story is just dumb
@theghostwiththemost789 the addition of a "4" at the end has nothing to do with the story itself. The 4 represents the mainline lineup for the Pikmin series. Furthermore, Pikmin 4 is objectively the best way to advertise the game since that's what fans have been waiting on (And not because we're dying to finish the story, mind you). Edit: Also, I don't see the issue with the reboot/alt timeline approach. By committing to a reboot, it addresses one of your biggest issues, which is the world building the game has.
I also want to piggy back on this 3 also acted very much as a soft core reboot as 2 and 1 story’s are barely referenced and 3 plot is very detached from them
I personally disagree. 3 is also easy but I think 4 is easier and 3 at least has difficulty options in the switch version. The difficulty options could’ve been better but at least they’re there

3 is by far the easiest of the games it has the weakest enemies and wings just nuke almost every major boss besides the plasm wraith and rocks do that
