It’s so good to still hear that good old southern down home country accent from a southern young lady..!..and can’t wait to cook this dish..!..GOD BLESS..!
I've cooked my entire life for thousands of people as I've been catering on a large scale for 35 years, plus I've cooked for meals on wheels and head start programs just as long. I'm truly a food critic, but I love the way you cook. You're really helping the younger generation 😋
Watching you makes me want to start cooking again.I just gave up last year I had covid 3 times ,shingles 3 times.I lost my husband of 22 years to Covid.Thank you also for lifting my spirit.
Oh my goodness, I feel for you, you have really been through a hard time the last year. I hope you are feeling better and are seeing light at the end of the tunnel.
This steak looks so delicious, I’m a new subscriber because I love the old school cooking, bless your heart , these young cooks could learn a lot from you
I agree. While I’m nit a “young” ANYTHING (haha), i didn’t appreciate the likes of my mother, aunts, grandmothers cooking when they were alive and i WAS a young cook. It was a hassle to me then, so i think people sharing how to recipes…ESPECIALLY southern cuisine, if it aint broke type of recipes…its absolutely FANTASTIC.
I had a grandma MeMe too! Spelled the same way. She was raised on a farm in Missouri and cooked exactly like you! Wonderful memories, and now you're showing me how to bring them back.
It's in the oven right now 🤤 I had some gravy leftover & I couldn't help myself & took 3 spoonfuls like it was soup 😂 it was delicious! I had to put 3 small steaks separately with no onions or gravy because my daughter won't eat it then 🤦♀️ I'm serving it over jasmin rice & fresh green beans. Thanks Ms Diane! I can already tell this is a keeper!!
I made this last night using deer steaks and Kentucky kernel seasoned flour, I also added mushrooms. All I can say is Oh my goodness! It was one of the best dinners we've had in a while, along with some baked potatoes and brussel sprouts. Thank you for making this video.
I add mushrooms, onions and a bit of beef stock with mine. I serve it over mash potatoes because that’s the way my mama taught me. I’m a new subscriber here, and I love how much you remind me of my precious mother❤️
I hope you hug the younger generation a lot. I didn't have grandparents because my mother was so miserable and kept away from family. To break the cycle of abuse I cut all ties with my parents 25 years ago. I focused on raising healthy strong handsome sons. I now have a granddaughter that I am pouring my heart into. Oh how I have longed for a grandma and a mom to love and vice versa. I wish I had had a grandma like you❤
I am a new follower! When i was living abroad ( born and raised in the Midwest) i had the hardest time explaining to people the dishes - on what “classic American food” and what dishes I really missed. I am definitely going to get her cook book! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and tips with this millennial!
Hello from the Mtns of Western NC !! Meme my husband and I love to watch you . We made this for dinner after we watched your video. It was delicious and so tender! We love you. You are a bright light in this dark world !! ❤
I made this for dinner last night. Since I'm a Texan, I had to tell my wife it's not quite chicken fried steak but let's give it a chance. Oh my goodness. It was delicious. She kept going back for 'just one more spoon of gravy." Next up is chicken and dressing with cranberry sauce.

My heart doctor panicked about vegetable oil. I found a work around on this recipe with using just a tad bit of olive oil, brown, onions in the pan into the instant pot with 2 cups of water and the beef base. So good. I'd have been horrified to give this dish up.
Hi! Oh. My. Word! I made this tonight! It was beyond delicious! Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful recipe. I didn't use water for the gravy, I changed it to beef broth. Anything I've ever cooked that involved water, I've always tried a more flavorful alternative. My daughter called it phenomenonal. I served it with my special mashed potatoes and some peas. Thank you Ms MeMe! God Bless!!
This reminds me of my Grandma. She used to fry round steak just like that, only difference was she made cream gravy usually with mash potatoes, black eyed peas, macaroni and cheese, fried squash, and biscuits. Love these videos.
I just found your channel. My ex-husbands grandmother and mother were both southern cooks. Thank u so much for bringing back such sweet memories for me
Where have you been all my life! I love you and your recipes. And you have recipe books???? I have got to get them. You make everything look so easy and yummy. Just tried your chicken pot pie and it was easy,!!! And delicious 😋😋😋😋😋. Keep cooking!! And you always dress so nice.
Hello there beautiful Me Me. It is always so good to see you. Your recipes are so yummy and delicious 😋. My mouth waters everytime I see you cook. Thank you so very much for sharing and for everything you do. May the good Lord always bless you and keep you safe and healthy where ever you go.
Especially during the summer l like to brown mine like MeMe,then put the steaks in the crockpot with the gravy,so the oven doesnt heat up the kitchen,it comes out so tender it easily cuts with a fork.
Hi Meme, I just wanted to let you know of a different thing I tried. I also love Julia Child’s cooking so I am well versed with making her sauces and gravies. I used your techniques in everything except the gravy by making Julia’s Borginon gravy using Red Wine. I still used flour and the grease as you do but instead of pouring water I poured about half a bottle of a cheap dry red wine and deglaze the pan while declumping the flour, next I alternated with liquid beef stalk (and I do also use the beef paste but I premix with water in the microwave). I added salt and pepper to taste in addition to about 1 tsp of ground thyme. I added a can of drained mushrooms to the gravy and mixed it all together then poured over the cube steaks as you did and baked the same exact way. AMAZING combination of Southern cooking with French flavors. I hope you try it out some time.
I'm sure I would love it however it was made. But when you started talking wine and mushrooms I was even more hooked! Right around the corner is fall and cooler weather, and that's when I enjoy cooking most. I'm really looking forward to this.
What a game changer of baking this!!! I have always fried the steak and then simmered it in the gravy, but today I tried it in the oven per your recipe. Absolutely delicious!! And oh so tender! Thank you!! I have your first 2 cookbooks and have pre-ordered the third.
I just put this together and then in the crock pot for today’s Sunday dinner 😊 it’s 91 degrees right now in Virginia so I didn’t want the central air competing with the oven 🥵 but I think it’ll be just as good! Thank you for the recipe!
Love this, Thank You! I’ve been cooking for about 55 years and am considered to be a great cook by family and friends. I learned several things from your talk and video and I’m so appreciative of what I’ve learned and will use next time I make cube steak. I’ll go online and buy your cookbook too so that I can learn more. Thank you!
This video is a year old, but I've just got to say that you are so lovely. :) My Grandma & Mom made steak & gravy exactly like you. It was always delicious. There were a few times their oven wasn't working so they had to slow cook them on the stove top. It was still so tasty. Thank you for the video. :)
Your recipes are so easy to follow and I feel like I’m beside my grandma and she’s showing me how to cook something. It’s so much fun to watch. I find myself chuckling a lot and smiling too. Thank you for your sweet spirit. It has made my day.
I love to watch you cook. My grandmother raised me and these meals you share is what she called rib sticker food. I am a mother of 4 with 9 grandkids and 12 great grandbabies. I cook like you and everyone loves it.
She reminds me so much of my Granny who I called Me Me growing up! Southern charm! And all the wonderful receipes! So glad I found this Me Me On you tube!
I lived in Texas in the 70s for a few years. They called this chicken fried steak back then and it was delicious too. I can’t wait to try yours. Thanks so much for making cooking fun!
To me it don't make sense to buy meat at Publix it is no different than the meat that you get at Walmart and I pulled it several times on other people who swear only by Publix Publix is overpriced it's a nice store to shop at but highly overpriced stick with the Walmart brand you really can't go wrong
I love your method of frying the cube steak and putting it in the oven!! I fry mine the same way as you do put after I fry I put the steaks in the crockpot pour the gravy over the top and cook on high 4-6 hours it turns out amazing but if it’s to long it might end up to soft. And we eat it with both either rice or mashed buttered potatoes!! Thank you Meme for another great easy inspirational recipe!!! Love you god bless!!! Diane Helen 🙏❤️
This is my family's favorite. The funny thing is that I didn't grow up with it. My mom just fried the cube steak. She couldn't make gravy if her life depended on it. My husband was the one who taught me how to make it. His mother made it and he learned from her. Our kids love it. Lol our daughter would get a little bowl and drink the gravy. I'm enjoying your channel
I love watching your down home recipe videos. Im 55 and i taught myself how to cook! Down home style recipes are my favorites and The Best! My poor husband has been eating tough cubed steaks for 38 yrs ! Lol NOW Ican make them CORRECTLY! THANK YOU! ♡
I had to buy the cookbook because she has so many good recipes. I know we have the internet but it’s nice to have the copy in front of you along with all the other recipes.
Why is your daughter camera shy? She’s beautiful! This dish looks so delicious! I’m going to try it your way. When I make it, I use cream of mushroom soup for the gravy, and it’s delicious. I just received a notification from you that my cookbook has been shipped! Can’t wait to receive it! I so enjoy all of your videos. ❤️
Midwestgirl, I have yet to see where to order the cookbook. I keeping checking the information box on the videos, but have never seen a link or order information. How does one order a cookbook?
Hi i just made this. Its in the oven. I chopped top sirloin steaks with a sharp heavy knife to tenderize and added some canned brown gravy to the homemade gravy. My husband loved the pork chop casserole and I think he will love this. Thank you, Meme!
How I wish we would have done this with my Grandma Holman years ago! She was an amazing woman and amazing cook! Watching MeMe warms my heart and takes me back to her farm…
I made this delicious country steak and gravy for dinner last night, it was amazing! I served it over the brown rice and my husband went crazy over it. The brown rice is amazing on its own, but covered with this delicious steak and gravy was like a little heaven in your mouth. My husband didn't waste any time putting the leftovers in one of his Pyrex dishes that fit in his electric lunchbox. Thank you Miss Diane for sharing your amazing recipes with us! Please keep the videos coming, I can't wait for the next one! God Bless You and Your Beautiful Family! SHINE FOR JESUS!
This southern household loves mashed taters with our Salisbury Steak n Gravy. I’ve never cooked it in the oven, always cooked it on the stovetop and that is time consuming because you do have to cook if low and slow. I am definitely going to try it this way next time! Thanks for sharing all of your wonderful recipes with us. I am going to purchase 4 copies of your cookbook as Christmas gifts (well, 3 gifts and one for me!) for my daughter and 2 nieces.
Hi MeMe. I was up late last night watching a whole string of your videos. I happened upon them. I’m in the desert, in the southern most tip of California, but I have a grandma from Texas and you cook the way she used too. Anyway, I’m embarrassed to admit I had problems with cubed steak in the past. I watched your video last night, bought some Walmart cube steak this morning and made it. Cooking it in the oven for 2 hours did the trick. It was tender and delicious just like you said. Thank you thank thank you. I love the stories. And I will be making your peach cobbler and dressing soon. Lisa, from Imperial, California where it’s summer from April to October 🥵🔥☀️
Meme reminds me so much of my mama..shes been gone 25 yrs...i sho miss her...i was only 19 when she passed but she taught me how to cook and how to survive..i woulda starved without all her lessons...God bless you MeMe...you are doing the lords work.
I love chicken fried steak with cream gravy, but this smothered steak baked in the oven would sure be great to feed a larger crowd. I cannot wait to try this. I keep that chicken and beef base you get at Sam’s too. It is great to enhance the flavors of various soups, stews, etc. Thanks for sharing your recipes.
@@memesrecipesschi do you enjoy venison? I make this often for family, but use venison as I like to deer hunt. This looks delicious and makes me hungry for some.
Oh yes... I would love to know how you learned to cook! Some of your recipes take me back to the days of sitting down to my mom's supper table when I was growing up. I love watching and learning from you! My husband can now look forward to a supper of country fried steak with gravy!
MeMe, thank you so much for sharing this recipe. I tried it tonight, and it was so good. I love watching your videos and can’t wait to try more of your recipes. You are a national treasure! I hope more of your cookbooks are in stock soon.
We have family dinner every Sunday night. All of our adult children come and I’m always looking for new ideas for dinner that they’ll all enjoy. Thanking you for blessing our home with your excellent recipes. I’m making this on Sunday. I also like your reminder to “shine for Jesus.” Bless you.
This dish looks delicious and the gravy was perfect. I love brown gravy but when I make it sometimes the oil separates from the water or I can't get a full, thick pan of gravy. My mom's gravy is the best but unfortunately I'm still struggling. Thnx for the helpful video, I enjoyed watching.
Miss MeMe that looks delicious. I was going to say "you can add Better Than Buillon to beef up the gravy" and my gosh you did it. I usually make mine on the stove, so I'm going to try putting it in the oven like you do. The only thing I do different is that I add 1tbsp. of tomato paste to give it a little bit of tomato flavor. I'm a Mimi too by the way. Just a different spelling. I'm so glad that you're teaching young people how to cook and teaching us older cooks some good recipes too. Thanks again and I hope that you are having a wonderful evening.
I love your voice and accent! I lived in Hot Springs, AR and worked at the AG children’s home in the late 70’s & early 80’s. I miss the people and the churches and the food! So I cry and laugh when I watch your videos. Hopefully I will get some confidence back with my cooking😋🤟🏻🙏🏻❤️ God Bless …. Shar from Wyoming
Miss MeMe I just found your channel and Love it!!! Ma’am you’re tutorials are so good along with the good home cooking recipes!!! I have subscribed and look foreward to future videos🙂🙂🙂
Up North, Ma., we have a new product called, Better Than Bullion,. They now have about 7 different flavors. It comes in a jar and once it is open you must refrigerate it. I have them ALL.
I’m new to your channel. Catching up. Kayleen is so sweet to video for you and you are both blessed to have one another. You all do great work and I’m looking forward to watching more videos.
You and your daughter do such a wonderful job of explaining the recipe and filming and editing! Thank you so much! I'm also a new subscriber and would like to know where I could purchase your cookbook?
YOU MA'AM are the loving grandma that every soul in the World would love and deserves. Thank you for your love filled recipes. Arohanui from New Zealand.
Ms. MeMe, you are a national treasure! I love hearing your accent (Yankee here) as it brings back frond memories of our time stationed in the South. God's richest blessings to you and your family!
Love this recipe. I love Ms. Diane, I watch her videos when ever I miss my grandmother. I had to make some substitutions in the recipe for my husband because he can't have gluten. I use cornstarch to flour the cube steak and I either use cornstarch or his alternate flour mix to make the gravy.
Cube steak is one of my favorites! I love the way you cooked it I will be trying this and the rice recipe! Thanks for sharing ❤from Mimi’s Country Cooking
Well, this is the next of your recipes I have tried. Since it's just me and my wife, I bought a two-pack of the cube steaks and cut them into 5 pieces. Followed your instructions to the letter after that and oh my was this absolutely the best Country Steak and Gravy we have ever eaten. I usually would doctor up my meat and gravy on my plate with some ketchup; but tried it without it this time. Turned out it was great without it. We have enough for a second meal which I will probably eat tomorrow night. My wife isn't a big leftover person so I may just get to eat all the rest which is just fine with me. We have always done this recipe completely on the stove top. Never doing that again. Thank you Diane. This is another "keeper" recipe. Sunday, we are cooking up some Country Port Ribs and we are going to try your Sweet Potato recipe then. I am so glad I ran across your RUclips videos and bought your receipt book. You REALLY do like your desserts. Can't wait to try some of them from your book. Thank you. :)
Tammy, over the past year we have had over 10 channels to steal my videos and start channels impersonation me. RUclips finally helped us shut down the imposters so that we could grow my authentic channel. We have been loading my older Facebook videos here so the date the video loaded will be different than the actual date it was recorded. We try to include the Original Film Date in the description of the video, under the hashtags. : ) Thank you for watching!!!
Thank you so much for explaining this. Truly sorry you've had to deal with that. God Bless you ❤️. I'm not sure btw how close you are to Charleston SC?. My Father's Wife is the Dean's assistant at The Law School there. They live in Summerville. Have a wonderful 4th of July to you & your family Meme 🎉🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️🌹❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I made this butter tender cube steak for dinner tonight for my folks. I served it with creamed potatoes, purple hull peas, sautéed yellow squash, and biscuits and honey. They loved it! I was not a fan of the taste of the gravy myself (just a matter of preference, lol) so I will be tweaking it some, but this is still a gold star recipe and I will add it to my favorites to prepare and share. Thank you so much for showing this cooking technique to those of us who didn't know it or had forgotten about it.
Life long South Carolinian here and I could eat grits every morning and rice every night!!! Love this recipe!
Meee too!!😋🙂❤️
It’s so good to still hear that good old southern down home country accent from a southern young lady..!..and can’t wait to cook this dish..!..GOD BLESS..!

Sounds great!😋🙂 My boys would like it, but I’ll pass on the venison.🤭
MeMe had to have been a schoolteacher. You can tell she doesn’t put up with any shenanigans. 😂

Meme used beef base in addition to the water, so she essentially used beef broth as well.
We have something here at Costco called Better than Bouillon both beef and gravy I use them a lot for soups gravies etc.
This reminds me of my Grandma. She used to fry round steak just like that, only difference was she made cream gravy usually with mash potatoes, black eyed peas, macaroni and cheese, fried squash, and biscuits. Love these videos.

It''s my love language!
Only a sweet MeMe would do this for her granddaughter!! 🤗🐝
MeMe! The Pork Chops and Rice were “the bomb” for that Sunday lunch. Please do your macaroni cheese and your rolls! Thank you 🙏
I just always have... no scientific reason. : )
Looks delicious. I love pepper so i would put pepper on my part.
Southern gravy is an art form. It took me years to get it right.
That looks so delicious. I'm definitely going to cook it. I'm going to serve it with oven roasted carrots and mashed potatoes. Cheers from Portugal.
Sounds great!😋🙂❤️
❤ Looks so good!
Oh my gosh your country steak and gravy looks so yummy!! Can’t wait to make this for me and my husband! Thank you!
I had to buy the cookbook because she has so many good recipes. I know we have the internet but it’s nice to have the copy in front of you along with all the other recipes.
Hope you enjoy it!
New follower. Ordered your cookbook, can’t wait! You are a natural on video👍🏻👍🏻
I got her cookbook a couple of days ago and I love it!
That looks SO good! Gravy is the perfect color and consistency
My goodness gracious, you are the first person that’s made this like my mother did. You must be from Alabama.
🤭😂No, SC. Thanks for watching. Please subscribe.😋🙂❤️
She is way too sweet, I love her
❤️
Hi i just made this. Its in the oven. I chopped top sirloin steaks with a sharp heavy knife to tenderize and added some canned brown gravy to the homemade gravy. My husband loved the pork chop casserole and I think he will love this. Thank you, Meme!
This country steak and gravy recipe looks so delicious 😋 Ms. MeMe.
How I wish we would have done this with my Grandma Holman years ago! She was an amazing woman and amazing cook! Watching MeMe warms my heart and takes me back to her farm…
Thanks for watching and please subscribe.🙂
I tried your country fried steak with gravy and it turned out delicious. Thank you for all the cooking you sharing on RUclips!
Great to hear! Thank you for watching!
Delicious and reminds me of my mother and my Nanny!
😋🙂❤️
I love your cookbook. I always go to it when I’m planning my meals for the week.
I love how kind and thoughtful you are. I really enjoy your vidoes!!!
Thank you so much!
Meme is the quintessential southern lady and chef!! Love her❤❤
I made this delicious country steak and gravy for dinner last night, it was amazing!
That is wonderful!! My family loves it as well. Thanks for watching and please subscribe.
Sounds great! Hope you enjoy!!😋

Yay... so glad I could help you enjoy cubed steak. : ) Thank you for watching! We are melting in SC right now. whew!

🙂❤️🙏🏻
I love chicken fried steak with cream gravy, but this smothered steak baked in the oven would sure be great to feed a larger crowd. I cannot wait to try this. I keep that chicken and beef base you get at Sam’s too. It is great to enhance the flavors of various soups, stews, etc. Thanks for sharing your recipes.
Sounds great! Thank you!!
@@memesrecipesschi do you enjoy venison? I make this often for family, but use venison as I like to deer hunt. This looks delicious and makes me hungry for some.
This is one of my favorite foods and I think she has brought this over the top ❤
😋🙂❤️
Can you do a video about yourself? Tell us where you grew up at and who taught you how to cook give us a little info
Oh yes... I would love to know how you learned to cook! Some of your recipes take me back to the days of sitting down to my mom's supper table when I was growing up. I love watching and learning from you! My husband can now look forward to a supper of country fried steak with gravy!
There is no doubt in my mind that this is amazing. I will be trying it for sure! Thanks, Ms Diane! ❤
Come to my house, MeMe. I’m starving after this. Beautiful. Be blessed😘
MeMe, thank you so much for sharing this recipe. I tried it tonight, and it was so good. I love watching your videos and can’t wait to try more of your recipes. You are a national treasure! I hope more of your cookbooks are in stock soon.
Thank you so much! We hope to have some books in stock this week.
Try better than bullion if they have in Australia 😊
We have family dinner every Sunday night. All of our adult children come and I’m always looking for new ideas for dinner that they’ll all enjoy. Thanking you for blessing our home with your excellent recipes. I’m making this on Sunday. I also like your reminder to “shine for Jesus.” Bless you.
I love Sunday lunch with my family too! Thank you for watching!
Oh my God that gravy looks so good lady you. Can cook looks
Thank you so much for your help with these wonderful recipes you share as well as the Good Lords Blessings! Thank You!
I am so glad you are enjoying the videos!
Great minds think alike ... on the gravy! Thank you for your kind words. Have a terrific week!
@@memesrecipessc Thank you
I honestly don't remember having seen country steak cooked like this, using the oven. But I am definitely going to do your recipe! 😊
Hope you enjoy
I love your voice and accent! I lived in Hot Springs, AR and worked at the AG children’s home in the late 70’s & early 80’s. I miss the people and the churches and the food! So I cry and laugh when I watch your videos. Hopefully I will get some confidence back with my cooking😋🤟🏻🙏🏻❤️ God Bless …. Shar from Wyoming
Thanks for sharing!!

Welcome to my kitchen. 😍
Thank you, Robert here, my mommas from Georgia and this is Southern cooking!
Up North, Ma., we have a new product called, Better Than Bullion,. They now have about 7 different flavors. It comes in a jar and once it is open you must refrigerate it. I have them ALL.
Great tip!
It's good. I use browning sauce- kitchen bouquet.
I’m new to your channel. Catching up. Kayleen is so sweet to video for you and you are both blessed to have one another. You all do great work and I’m looking forward to watching more videos.

Yay! Thank you!
Ms. MeMe, you are a national treasure! I love hearing your accent (Yankee here) as it brings back frond memories of our time stationed in the South. God's richest blessings to you and your family!
Thank you and thanks for watching!!
I have trouble finding good well tenderized cube steak and if I ask the butcher to extra tenderize mine they get mad🙄
So put it in a baggy and beat the he'll out of it
I will beat mine a little bit and that makes them more tender.
But hers aren’t what they once were that’s for sure
@@terriebuys4052I always beat them more too. Go to a real butcher shop to get extra help. Some of them ask what I I cooking….LOVE that!
Love this recipe. I love Ms. Diane, I watch her videos when ever I miss my grandmother. I had to make some substitutions in the recipe for my husband because he can't have gluten. I use cornstarch to flour the cube steak and I either use cornstarch or his alternate flour mix to make the gravy.
way to be creative. : ) thank you for tuning in
Cube steak is one of my favorites!
I love the way you cooked it I will be trying this and the rice recipe!
Thanks for sharing ❤from Mimi’s Country Cooking
Thanks for watching : )
MeMe you are amazing and anyone would be blessed to have your food. Thank you for teaching”teaching us how to fish”!
Thank you so much
MeMe, I am a busy mother and teacher. I just came across your videos and really appreciate your wisdom in the kitchen. Thank you !❤
You are my target audience! ❤️ And God bless you in your job!
Looks delicious! Just ordered your cookbook! Yay! Truly inspired.
Hope you like it!
Thank you. :)
I am so glad you enjoyed! Cooking for two is much different than a bigger group! Thank you for watching!
Oh this video was done in March. It says 13 days ago. Beautiful cube steak and gravy dish. Thank you sweet meme❤️🙏🏻❤️. Your daughter is pretty. ❤
Sounds great!! And yes, by all means, make it your own.😋🙂
I have been making chicken fried steak for 60 yrs but not like this. I look forward to trying it this way. Thank you for sharing this.
You are so welcome! Hope you enjoy!!
Brother, there is nothing like Mama's cooking. Simply the best !
😋🙂❤️
