Fun Fact: The Jack Harkness checklist for who he can sleep with.
    1) Are they self aware?
    2) Are they age of consent for their species?
    3) Do they want to sleep with him?
That's it. If they're sentient, consenting and of age, he'll sleep with them.

Eccleston's "No" speech at the end is the moment he became one of my favorite incarnations of the Doctor. Ending it with "....and doesn't that just scare you to death?" was perfect. Yes, Doctor, it does scare them to death. As it should.

DALEK: What is the meaning of this negative?
    DOCTOR: It means no.
DALEK: But she will be destroyed.
    DOCTOR: No!
DOCTOR: Because this is what I'm going to do. I'm going to rescue her. I'm going to save Rose Tyler from the middle of the Dalek fleet. And then I'm going to save the Earth, and then, just to finish off, I'm going to wipe every last stinking Dalek out of the sky!
DALEK: But you have no weapons, no defences, no plan.
DOCTOR: Yeah. And doesn't that scare you to death. Rose?
    ROSE: Yes, Doctor?
DOCTOR: I'm coming to get you.
One of my favourite 9th Doctor moments. You can see how serious he gets when The Dalek's are involved and one of his friends is in danger because of them.

Had they actually planned to off Rose? Genuine, honest question there…
I ask because I know there was a false trailer leaked, that suggested she would die in a different context (a reading of “life from dying” or something)… It may have been done because of Chris’ departure being revealed far earlier than originally planned, as a misdirection for us to not know if Rose would also live. And if he was leaving in the finale or the Christmas special, I suspect.

I have been *hanging out* for your reaction to this ep and I already can't wait for next week. Also, pleasingly, I've just worked out that I get your reaction to the first Xmas special for my birthday!! Happy birthday, birthday month twin.
Also, seeing your comments of transitioning TARDISes. The exterior remains largely the same, but every Doctor gets their own interior, which has become something of a running gag in the series. Semi-regularly "The Doctor" (I've used quotes because it's been said by more than one) will enter another Doctor's TARDIS, and similar to the companion's "it's bigger on the inside", will bust out "Ahh, I see you've redecorated. I don't like it".
But I'm just here for the ride. Let's get into it.

The TARDIS "console room" (as it was known in the classic era, though I don't think it's really ever been called that in the new era, mostly because there's been barely any episodes when they've gone BEYOND the console room) underwent about 4 major shake ups in 26 years from 1963-89. In 1996 when they tried to make WHO into an American/British co-production, thankfully THANKFULLY the Brits stood there ground when it came to how the outside of the TARDIS looked, and also the sound of the TARDIS de/rematerialising. The inside underwent a total redevelopment however, and was amazing! It felt much more like a home, which was the intention right from the very beginning. When the show finally came back in 2005, well, you've seen the "coral theme". I'm glad you like it, but I'd love to see more of it. Thankfully we do have a few stories coming up that venture deeper inside the TARDIS...

As others have said, Jack is definitely more than just an appearance in Torchwood - if you like Jack then definitely give it a watch. It has some incredibly strong episodes (and a few, definitely the minority, weaker episodes) - I found it to be one of those where the highs are incredible, and the lows can be quite low, but overall 100% a worthwhile watch, especially after they find their feet with the writing and the characters grow.

Hello! Love your reactions!😊No spoilers: Torchwood, first of all, Jack isn't a side character in the serie. The serie is good, I like it a lot, the american reboot, not that much but still fine, and if you want to watch it you'd better wait until after watching DW season 2, otherwise you'll be a bit confused. Because the Torchwood serie goes parallel to the events that occur after DW season 2, even though it has its own stories and so on.

The funniest thing about the Doctor's relationship with the timelords is that he doesn't even like them all that much. Back in classic Who he said this about him when they put him on trial:
In all my travellings throughout the universe, I have battled against evil, against power-mad conspirators. I should have stayed HERE! The oldest civilization: decadent, degenerate and rotten to the core! Ha! Power-mad conspirators, Daleks, Sontarans, Cybermen - they're still in the nursery compared to us! Ten million years of absolute power - that's what it takes to be really corrupt!

I started watching Doctor Who in about 1980 at the age of 3. (In reality - I am sure my brothers had me sitting next to them watching the show as soon as I could sit up - I don't remember a time that I didn't watch Doctor Who.) I've seen every episode of Doctor Who (that is possible to watch; 96 instalments from 1963-69 were destroyed, and only exist as audio recordings). In 2005 when RTD brought Doctor Who back from oblivion, I was dubious. We'd gone through an attempted revival in 1996 and that was heartbreaking when it failed. But sitting there watching the television in 2005 - watching THIS episode... I felt every bit of the emotions that you were going thru watching this now. It is an AMAZING story, and the story-arc was brilliant. Now - I said all of that to say this... When you spoke of how the Doctor wiped out the Time Lords in order to kill the Daleks... (and as it turns out - he did it all for nothing...) It is devastating... One of the things that (generally) always happened in Doctor Who was that the Doctor did not go for a gun... He did not just shoot his way out of a situation... But one of the very few times that the Doctor ever did hold a gun in the Classic Era was in a Dalek story. Ultimately, he couldn't pull the trigger. Seeing the Doctor in this story, knowing what he has done... Ok now I'm just rambling, and trying not to give away anything, and - you know, Doctor Who is just this cute lil kids show. :) THIS episode (and its conclusion) is very much why by 2010 Doctor Who was the BBC's biggest money earner.

I don’t know who told you John Barrowman is not in Torchwood / that he plays only a minor role, as that information is patently false. He is, for all intents and purposes, THE lead of the show and Captain Jack Harkness is THE main character. It’s an ensemble cast, yes, but based on you saying that you don’t plan on watching Torchwood, but if there were a show where Captain Jack was the lead you would watch it, to me it is malpractice not to disabuse you of that misinformation. Maybe whoever told you that didn’t want the end of the next episode spoiled, but since at this point you’ve already watched it anyway, let it be known that you absolutely would miss out on THE show centered around Captain Jack that you were joking that you’d watch in a heartbeat if it existed. Also, you miss out on quite a bit of context if you watch certain seasons of Doctor Who before watching Torchwood. To that end, just make sure to finish Season 1 of Torchwood by the finale (the final 3 episodes) of Season 3 of Doctor Who and to finish season 2 of Torchwood by the finale (the final 2 episodes) of season 4 of Doctor Who. After that you can continue or discontinue Torchwood if you like as there are no more crossovers to contend with by that point. Nothing of what I said above is spoilers for either Doctor Who or Torchwood, especially since you have already watched the finale of Series 1 of Doctor Who so I’m hoping you are okay with me clearing things up.

As she indicated that she immediately watched that episode as well as the Christmas Special after watching Bad Wolf, here’s to hoping the person feeding her that information disabused her of that idea and she now knows that if she wants more Captain Jack it is her best interest to watch Torchwood.
