Can I suggest a History video? If You are interested it is called: "How "The Great Mafia War killed Thousands" by the Channel called: "Infographics Show".
They had a TV show called Monty Python's Flying Circus. Each episode is 30 minutes of different comedy sketches. For the uninitiated, I recommend these three sketches: Spam, Cheese Shop, Dead Parrot.
"It's a horse on a budget!" That's the most on-the-nose thing any reactor has said about that! That was literally the reason why they used the coconuts cos hiring the horses was too expensive!
Clearly, the budget was expertly spent on the French castle's livestock defense, the lone killer rabbit, and the coconut-grounded white dove-plus the overworked duck pulling double duty. Luckily there was also no room for a real cat.
Budget was also the reason it ended abruptly with the police roundup. They wanted to do an actual battle scene but the cost to keep that many extras on hand was too high.
Various fun facts about this movie: - Many of the creative decisions (i.e., the coconuts for horses) were due to a lack of funds. The film's budget was completely overwritten by their famous friends like Elton John and Keith Richards looking for a tax write-off. - Graham Chapman was the only one with actual chain mail armor. Everyone else was wearing knitted garments painted silver. - Most of the castles are just the same castle in Scotland, filmed from different angles. - The ending is a play on the term "cop-out." On their TV show, if they couldn't come up with an ending for a skit, they'd just have someone come in in a police uniform and tell them to stop. The original ending was supposed to be Arthur and his Knights finding the Holy Grail in a Woolworth's department store, but they ran out of money. - Michael Palin was knighted in 2019.
Biss, if you ever want to try Monty Python again, their film "Life of Brian" (1979) is considered one of the greatest comedies ever. It's the hilarious story of Brian Cohen of Jerusalem, who gets mistaken for the Messiah in ancient Judea. 😆 The film is a great satire of politics, the Romans, terrorists groups, cult followings, and people in general, because they just can't stop arguing and fighting each other. GREAT COMEDY! The members of Monty Python are masters of absurdist humor. They will make fun of ANYTHING. As human beings are so crazy, absurd and silly, they will do many crazy and absurd things!
It was done on a budget, most of the castle scenes were done in one castle, Doune Castle, and horses were too expensive, so they used coconuts instead. It cost next to nothing to make, but it was a huge hit.
Fantastic reaction, Bisscute, especially: 1. Naming the "budget horse". Perfect. They had a budget of one hundred thousand pounds for the entire film, so knew they couldn't afford actual horses. They couldn't ride, anyway. 2. Lancelot The Bloody. Lancelot The Wedding-Destroyer. You rock. 3. You can summon fireballs like Tim the Enchanter! Awesome!!!! 4. @@betsyduane3461 ... Carol Cleveland was certainly a member of Monty Python. She appeared in 30 of the 45 episodes in the TV series and in all four Monty Python movies. This group of comedians, known as Monty Python, are graduates of Oxford and Cambridge Universities. It may not look it but this was highbrow humor in the lowest brow form. You're right. Finding the perfect thing is considered a "Holy Grail". If a castle in the middle of nowhere, full of beautiful young nymphomaniacs isn't a Holy Grail, I never saw one. I wonder if that was the double meaning behind the grail beacon?
The ending is funny because there's a saying to "cop out" of something which means to avoid your responsibilities, so the ending with the cop stopping the filming is a LITERAL "cop out", lol.
I was very surprised she actually liked this. However she has on occasion, demonstrated, she in fact does have the sense of humor of a 12 year old boy!
The key to Monty Python is that the six of them (who portray the majority of characters) are all very intelligent, very well educated, but the main goal of their comedy was to be silly. Really enjoyed your reaction!
"Monty Python's Flying Circus" was a comedy TV show in Britain from 1969-74. The six names you didn't recognize wrote and performed everything, and after the show ended they made three movies starting with this one. I think it's definitely the best, but some will tell you the second, The Life of Brian, was. One member, John Cleese, later wrote A Fish Called Wanda, a great comedy.
I fall in the group that prefere Brian over the Grail, on the whole. There are however sequences and details in the Grail that... well... are unsurpased as bits. What kind of swallow? Ni!
Also it is worth mentioning that while Monty Python's combination of cerebral and silly humor was not hugely successful in its own time, they had an incredible influence on future comedians. It's not a coincidence it seemed a little like Hot Fuzz.
One of my favorite movies. Interesting facts, they used coconuts because they couldn’t afford horses. It was made in 1975. The movie was funded by bands like Led Zeppelin and Genesis. All the chainmail was actually woven wool, it was damp and the wool was wet and heavy, they were miserable. Also, a newt is a small amphibious lizard. 🦎 A shrubbery is a small bush. Tim the Enchanter was suppose to have a really long weird name but John Cleese could remember it, so he said Tim, they left it in the movie. I hope you do The Life of Brian next!!! Great job Biss!!
Interesting fact, every time a RUclipsr posts a "...reacts to Holy Grail" video someone comes into the comments to point out that Tim's name wasn't originally Tim but John Cleese couldn't remember the name during that take, even though that's not true. Tim's name was Tim in the script.
Britts making fun of themselves is priceless and timeless. My French relatives start quoting lines from the French knight whenever I get together with them.
I first saw this film in Paris in 1978. Half the audience was French and half English-speaking so when the “French” soldier said “Fechez-la vache” the French people were completely puzzled. The rest of us burst out laughing.
😎👍 If it's of interest, the animator who had a heart attack (Terry Gilliam) is the same guy who's banging the coconuts together at the beginning of the film. 😜
This movie only makes sense if you think about it like a bunch of friends LARPing as King Arthur and his knights and the movie being about that, rather than being about King Arthur.
What makes Monty Python comedy work so well is that it is the completely "irrelevant injection" (comments from the backseats) comments that come out of nowhere, and yet at the same time actually fit the character being portrayed, while adding a dash of "visual humor" that distracts you just enough to lose track of the dialog, only to have the characters KNOW that you just got distracted by the visuals going on and takes the interaction into a new direction. Because of this the audience sometimes find it "too distracting" and not funny, but those who GET it and understand the comedy STRUCTURE find it a complete laugh-riot. And while it CAN be a little "hit/miss" overall ... when it hits, it hits HARD and even when it misses, it isn't annoying...just indifferent.
monty python were masters of the "running gag". things like the swallows carrying coconuts, the cats being beaten, saying 5 instead of 3, being dead (but not really dead) get funnier each time they recur. i loved it when you said, "i'd like to have someone behind me singing things that i do". really fun reaction.
" 'Ere. 'E says 'e's not dead." A perfect example of postwar British comedy writing, the surreal irony of Spike Milligan that has been part of the fabric of British comedy ever since.
Great reaction Biss this movie is epic. The Black Knight sequence is exactly what it feels like to argue on the internet. Weird historical references with the french scene: dead livestock as ammunition was done to spread disease, but the live animals is a joke. 'Your mother was a hamster' - Hamsters have a lot of children, basically calling her a slut. 'Your father smelt of elderberries' - Elderberries make wine, calling him a drunk. Keep up the good work.
I love that you cuaght the shield being an 'offensive weapon that is' thre at the end! Most people completely miss that joke, and it is one of my favorites.
4:25 Pope Gregory IX, the 178th pope of the Catholic Church from 1227 to 1241, is often remembered for issuing a Papal Bull declaring that cats bore Satan’s spirit, which subsequently led to huge numbers of cats being killed throughout Europe. The mass extermination of the continent’s felines is considered an indirect cause of the Bubonic plague spread by fleas on rats, which would otherwise have been hunted by the dead cats. Beyond that poor decision, Gregory was characterised as being quick to anger and having a “harsh personality”.
A "shrubbery" is a bush. A low plant sort of thing. Often shortened to "shrub." The shot of the animator having a fatal heart attack was in a fact shot of Terry Gilliam, who was the animator for Monty Python. So great to see you were totally synced with the humor just like we were back in the old days when I saw it the first time, which I think was around 1990. I loved the feeling of feeling the same about the humorous scenes in this movie. Thanks for the nostalgic review 🤗
Monty Python are British Comedy royalty. Holy Grail is one of the most quoted movies of all time. Life of Brian is considered their best movie. It was funded by George Harrison from The Beatles. There is also a TV comedy skit show. This is why their movies sometimes feel like a bunch of comedy skits put together. This is most apparent in their movie The Meaning of Life. It is my favourite of their movies. John Clesse made one of my fav TV shows Fawlty Towers and my fav comedy movie A Fish Called Wanda. A Fish Called Wanda is a must react. It is a mix of British and American actors.
So glad to see you react to this, Biss! When I first saw this film in the theater many years ago, I actually fell out of my seat laughing at the scene with the Black Knight... "It's a flesh wound!" 🤣 Keep up the great work! ... and oh yes, a newt is a type of salamander. (+1)

"In the name of King Arthur, like and subscribe!" Awesome. I'm already subscribed, and I for sure liked this video. You may not have caught ALL of the jokes, but that's the thing about this film: it's so re-watchable, because there is so much to see, and new jokes, puns, visual gags, to find every time. Loved your reaction! Love "Hot Fuzz" and "Snatch" as well; they're both other great British humor. Pretty much all British humor since the 1970s owes quite a lot to what Monty Python did. (of course, they had their earlier influences, as well..)

‘tell his mom is a hamster” 🤣 oh, yes indeed, we all need a bit of Bisscute 🤗 This was by far the most enjoyable reaction on this movie.
It’s fun watching Biss when she is in a silly mood. Also very singy in this one and a laughing and singing Bisscute is lots of fun. Thanks Biss.
So glad to see you react to this, Biss! When I first saw this film in the theater many years ago, I actually fell out of my seat laughing at the scene with the Black Knight... "It's a flesh wound!" 🤣 Keep up the great work!
... and oh yes, a newt is a type of salamander. (+1)
Glad you liked this
Monty Python's The Meaning of Life is hilarious.
Your english is really outstanding. I've been subscribed for awhile and your knowledge of popular culture and all kinds of synonyms is impressive. As a non native english speaker I hope you're proud of the dedication you've put into mastering the language
I don’t know if it’s lost in translation but Biss is equally the smartest reactor I’ve watched and also the most childlike. This isn’t a slight. We love it.
"A real horse, uh, Franks gone." I lost it.
Love watching your reactions.
Glad you did
"You know it's real when the morning star comes out". Truer words were never spoken 🤗💖
haha glad you liked it
@@BissFlix Loved it! Your reaction to this movie is easily the best on RUclips. You just accepted the absurdities and kept right on rolling!
It's fun listening to you laugh at this classic UK comedy
One of the better reactions. Good to see you laughing. Red is your color. Newt is like a salamander. Shrubbery, is just a small hedge. Thanks for the laughs!
😂 5.20 am New Zealand time woke up before alarm for wrk, YES Biss reaction! ❤
I do need a Bisscute in my life!
i love this movie so much, can't wait to see your reaction... Dennis is my favourite.
Well done that's all I have to say well done 👏👏
2:52 "Who needs eyes anyway" made me spit out my coffee. Amazing.
a newt (i think i spelt it wrong) is a small little creature that lives in rivers and ponds in the uk, like a little underwater lizard about 2 inchs long
thanks for the info
Naw, you spelled it correctly.
Yes!!!! I’m so happy you watched this… I had a real bucket list destination that I realized in 2012 when I traveled to Scotland (I have family there) and walked around Castle Doune where they filmed the movie
Thanks for watching the reaction
A newt is like a salamander.
The Black Knight's crest is a wild boar. And animal known to keep attacking even after being mortally wounded.
And so begins Biss' descent into the insane world of Monty Python. Never again will she see a coconut without thinking of the noble horses.
Hahaha
"What is Excaliborrr?"
It's part of a story as big of a tale in the UK as Dracula is in Romania
