I see you have a new qz on your website, and it looks great. I'm not 100% sure it's in the budget as I missed the really affordable one, but it's on my watch list. I'm hoping to pick something up from you at some point as I love your restoration work and I know you're a watch fanatic at heart
One of my favorite brand, with some true hidden gems. But yea, this brand has some serious identity issue. When it lost it's Seiko moniker on the dial, it was suppose to be the start of the dressy variant of GS. But due to the unexpected success of GS, Credor pivoted to not take the spotlight away from GS, but rather became more of the test bed for future GS directions. Kind of like trying out things first in the JDM market without the GS's standards/pillars, then refining it through GS to be ready for the international market. Seiko's many innovations were all tested in Credor first (1st Spring Drive, 1st Tourbillon, 1st Repeater, 1st 12 Beat/Sec, 1st case back complication, and many 1st dial/material compositions or techniques). I wouldn't be surprised if your Credor's black dial was a test bed for some black ink or finishing process Seiko was trying out before GS, may be it never made it to GS, who knows.
Thank you so much for this insight. I just picked up my first credor and I’m learning so much more about the brand through obscure reviews and comments 🙏🏻👍🏻
Another great credor video!! Do you have a video showcasing ALL your credor collection? Also talk about your all time fav, top 3 credor available watches? Thank you.
I have the feeling that most luxury watches drop in value like a lot of luxury auto-makers (outside of Lexus) drop in value: service costs. EDIT - But kudos for going on this "journey". Definitely new and exciting stuff for WatchTube.
I’ve often wondered how you remove a scratch from a Zaratzu polished watch. Surly you can’t go at it with a Cape Cod cloth. Wouldn’t that leave an apparent smudge on the case ? I wouldn’t be at all bothered by the dust under makro, just don’t look at it under makro.
My sample size of two hasn't been positive with the 6R35 movement. I initially bought an SPB123 direct from Seiko, but upon arrival it was running fast at 15s per MINUTE! Probably magnetised, so returned. Then I bought the baby Alpinist, found to be running fast 30s/day (out of spec). Taken to Seiko for regulation, now runs well until the mainspring winds down, when it starts running slow, about 20s/day (within spec, but very inconsistent). Only positive is the 70 hour reserve.
I find the no date quartz Credor watches are really good as a wifes watch. I've bought her three now. About 33mm x 5mm. Just grab it and go. She likes them.
The Credor logo, I always assumed, was designed to look like minarets so that marketing could be directed toward wealthy Arabs. And consider also that some models have a crescent moon counterbalance on the second hand.
"littered with DNA" 🤣🤣🤣 I still love it! I hope you don't get quoted too high for the service. I really liked how you gave the background about the brand and history.
@@ilikewatches What... 🤨🤨🤨 Might be real croc skin but i think 500GBP is too much for a strap. They might be thinking you have the modern ultra-expensive Credor. 😂

Hello everyone. Off topic... is there a 'leather' dial version of the new vintage SM diver with the applied indices? I sometimes struggle to navigate Ali but cannot find it. Since there's no two-tone 36 DJ yet, this was going to be my first Ali Express purchase!
Very interesting video! I was into Credor since a while but haven't really looked into their brand and history until recently. Are there any places you would recommend to look for them? And did you make the follow up video?
There's a lot to be said for _not_ using macro on a vintage watch - at least for perusing a personal collection. I've a dinged up Seiko-GrandSeiko (pre-rebrand - quartz SBGF003, blue dial with gilt dial furniture) which was a steal of a price through used JDM market. The dealer photo'd on macro -- and I'm guessing the dings, scratches and scuffs drove the price down. I love it to bits, and I'm half glad my ageing peepers cannot see every flaw when wearing it :) Nice Credor btw... love the high polish against the inky black. Hope the Seiko folks bung you a sweet branded strap! (though it may have came on crocodile previously which may have meant it was removed pre-sale to ye)
Thanks for a fascinating video 👍. I hope you do get it serviced, but I fear the cost will be prohibitive. Watching your responses as you discovered the dust made for good entertainment, but I feel disappointed too!
Seiko, Seiko KX, Seiko Presage, Old Grand Seiko, new Grand Seiko and Credor how many more ways will Seiko find to get us to by a watch. Shame the Credor has lost it's original strap and buckle and been opened by someone who couldn't be bothered to clean it before re-assembly. Nice watch for the price and even after refinshing etc. will still be a bargain. Nice purchase Gary. 👍⌚😎
Dust aside, that date window surround looks quite shoddy under macro, and both the dial and indices are nothing to write home about. It seems like Credor lost its way from the original Dufour intention in almost every way.
❤️ that movement makes me moist Gorgeous finishing. Side note - what's your thoughts on the 6r27? I've got my eyes on an eBay pickup with that movement, and it intrigued me. High beat and seiko for under $500 The finishing looks solid, and it's attainable.
Older Credors (80s90s early 00s) aren't as impressive as the modern "haute horology" ones that Credor seems to be pushing for now. The problem with that is people will buy an older Credor and think they got something out of this world, but in reality it's more of a higher end Seiko lol.
Credore do not hold their value. Many times they sell for less than Grand Seikos do... or maybe it is just the ones I actually see in the US... I have only seen them in non precios metal and as you talk I wonder if I haven't only seen quartz and knock offs...
A nice looking watch but for me nothing really special, so for half the cost of the Credor personally if I wanted something a little different I think I might be looking at a 1974ish Seiko vintage quartz...stay safe
This watch looks almost identical to my Seiko SPRA-27. 4R35 and $150.00. Credor is interesting though. It seems confusing that Seiko would have separate branding for them. Seiko also produces Pulsar and Credor with Orient as an arm's length division as well- except that- I'm sure there's sound business reasons- kind of how General Motors has different brands that are essentially the same cars with slight detail differences.
look forward to seeing how this all moves forward....not an overall fan of the dial itself however that's very subjective.... congratulations on the acquisition though....🏴⌚🏴⌚
i dont think seiko or credor sought philippe dufour's help at the VERY START (in 1970s or 60s) for the micro artiste studio as was mentioned HERE , but only when they refocus credor more towards mechanical watches in more recent decades 1990s and later probably 2000s.... Credor made both high end Quartz and mechanical watches in earlier era and was not widely known then and even now. hence many quartz pieces can be had for relatively low price despite many have unique qualities such as ultra think etc....
Ah, found the vid 😃 Well, saw your vid after getting it back from being restored by Seiko Japan. Based on the price you paid for this, its condition & what Seiko charged to restore it - I would have done the same thing with no regrets. ⌚😎🤙
I say, see if you can have it brought back to "cherry". Do it! And put it on a really fantastic strap. I'm sure you need at least formal dresser. This seems like a strong candidate for that purpose.
Looking forward to the follow up video, cant wait to hear what Seiko are able to offer. TBH I had never heard of Credor, and before this, would have easily passed this by without a second look.
