For more than 75 years, CBC News has been the source Canadians turn to, to keep them informed about their communities, their country and their world. Through regional and national programming on multiple platforms, including CBC Television, CBC News Network, CBC Radio, CBCNews.ca, mobile and on-demand, CBC News and its internationally recognized team of award-winning journalists deliver the breaking stories, the issues, the analyses and the personalities that matter to Canadians.
I'm not even Canadian but these Marketplace videos are intriguing to see how things can go wrong even if everything seems alright on the surface...
Most of the things that Marketplace reports on happens all around the world
Different country, same problem. Welcome to the World Economy where prices are set by whatever 'the market can bear'. Meaning a price is set as high for a product as one person is willing to spend to purchase it. True in this situation and also true in housing. Its not fair, but this is the new reality.
I don't live in Canada, but I am canadian and feel the same
same
These are some of the best investigative videos out there. Period.
I will not pay $1200 for a damn ticket to see anything
Ledwys Delgado me either
Court side game 7 of the NBA finals?
Still not worth it. Can watch the same game with best view from my TV. You have even replays and a very comfortable couch.
agree
I wouldn't even pay $200 for two tickets. If a band is large enough they can always do as the Hip did and host a free concert in partnership with a tv network and broadcast the show to everyone. If it means easy ratings for a network they will find a way to do it.
The biggest problem IS Ticketmaster.
I think as a whole that is a problem
They are pretty bad.
Truth.
Ticketmaster/Live Nation owns most of the venues and will not let performers book their venues if they don't go through them for ticket sales. All crooks and not there for the performers or the fans. Late stage capitalism
Years ago the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo used Ticketmaster but then switched to AXS. AXS puts everyone who signs in into a waiting room and then randomly selects someone to purchase tickets. I bought tickets to Selena Gomez back in 2014 and I'm pretty sure it was through AXS, and I got seats right behind the chutes... we also got to sit on the field during the concert. It might be easier to get good seats through AXS but if the waiting room idea works then it would cut down on the bots significantly.
"With a special software called... Bots" Hard hitting reporting, CBC.
*_bots_*
I don't know why but this reminds me when they did their trampoline episode, "a phenomenon known as double bounce'
Don't think they want the software to be more known because more people could use it.
@@rochan5129 ya but they could have just said using bots
Simple fix, copy what airlines do. Booking/buy tickets with a name linked to them. scalpers can't really resell a ticket that is only good if your name is the one that it was instantly bought with.
thehALomolov2 I was thinking the same. Also the last tickets could cost more, just linke the airlines.
Chthonian121 they would sell out even more if bots didn't take over. Sites like stubhub sell the tickets for 4x times what they're worth. Like me and my brother are trying to get Elton John tickets right now. In a matter of a minute all of the tickets we're gone, but the other ticket selling sites magically had them all... A ticket that was $150 is now $400. Second row seats are $900. Shows would always have a guarantee to sell out if this wasn't a thing. The tickets sold out because of the bots, but the actual venue itself won't be if people can't afford to actually go.
I am just thinking that are those really sold out by bots or is Live Nation starting to sell those tickets through another site just to get better price. Why another way there is so many tickets for sale at consert hall ticket sale at last minute?
this would be a terrible idea. Plenty of people cant make it to their flight and as a result cant fly and cant give it to their buddy even if they paid for it. A ticket needs to be a ticket without a name, both on airlines and everywhere else
It is already in place in Singapore
This was why I loved what Garth Brooks did last year on the tour...he sold his tickets for about $76 bucks then went on the news and said he would stay for every show that sold out and each time one sold out he would open another show...telling everyone not to buy for more cause he will sell more shows trying to keep fans happy and break the bank for the scalpers.
Most of artists can not do that because they do have contract with Live Nation and I believe that Live Nation do get their profit and don't want resale to end
Louie ck used a system with emails directly so you couldn't resell tickets and it really worked
Dont buy tickets from scalper sites.. They should get stuck with every ticket they buy!!! BOYCOTT!!!!
yesss .... thats just what I was thinking right now.....😂😂😂
you know it's true that we enable this behaviour
guitarsofthegods if I go to a Basketball game I’ll buy from stub hub because I can get better tickets and if I can’t go to a Jets game I’ll sell on stub hub but I don’t do it to make money I do it because I can’t go.
People who buy, as much as they complain, are fuelling the problem.
one of my sister's friends... he did reselling while in college... one thing he learned.. never buy tickets for pop stars... he got stuck with a lot of miley cyrus when she was the highest in popularity...
i laughed it off when my sister asked me if I wanted to go see a miley cyrus concert and i was like hell no...
Am I the only one who's never heard of this band? They've had their farewell tour & I never knew they even said hello!

@unapologetic truth Well, insulin to start with. Do your own homework. You sound like an American who thinks everything in the world was invited in the U.S. which isn't true.
Juli E. It must be a Canadian thing. I’ve only heard of Alanis morrisette and Brian Adams from canadia
As if live nation cares who's buying the tickets... they're still getting their money either way
and sadly they have a monopoly on tickets.
Just use the sentence "It is not our priority to prevent the bots..." instead of "We can't prevent the bots..."
It's called a Captcha
Before the internet you lined up and got a ticket at the box office and there was some released at the record stores. There was better control when you had to buy tickets face-to-face. If you tried to buy 100 tickets, the box office would refuse the sale. At least when you got in a line, you knew you were probably going to get your tickets as long as it wasn't sold out. I figured there was a computer program that bought tickets. It has made it impossible for a person with limited funds like myself to get tickets. I was lucky to see events before the internet , I feel bad about young people not being able to see a show or a sporting event without getting gouged by these thieves.
Peter Flynn As time goes on society seems to get worse and worse and all areas of life maybe it’s time we wake up and realize there’s something going on.
Yep. Get rid of all internet sales and it gets rid of this problem.
The internet is a scary place.. With it, I haven't made real conversation with my friends and family in real life for the past 5 years... Until now, when I've finally reduced my time on the internet
@@tinydough8746 Uh it doesnt do that to you if you use it correctly
I wanted to buy hockey tickets, I went on day 1 of the opening in person.
There were 5 people in front of me, and 8 lines, they didn't limit the amounts of tickets sold.
The first guy bought over 1000 tickets, different dates, all for "groups".
That happened for the first 3 people in my line and the two on my sides.
All that was left were pre game seats, this was 15 minutes after opening...
20:45 gave me chills and brought ACTUAL tears to my eyes. The look of utter joy on his face. I can't believe there are people that want to take advantage of and take that away from people.
This has been happening for years and it's such a shame people will make money from genuine fans losing out. Arenas end up with tons of empty seats because people don't pay and the sites selling these tickets (buying them and putting them on sister sites) should be banned.
The Lost Boy it's business
people will always buy ANYTHING that they think is limited/in demand and can turn a profit.
Free market
Ban people making money because real fans won't pay more for a ticket? Thats dumb. You won't let people make money because it is unfair. Ban real-estate because people who really need a house can't buy them, as big corporations bought all of the houses to sell for profit. Your idea is flawed.
The ONLY!! way this can be fixed, go back 20 Years, go to the venue where the concert is being played 1st come 1st served. limit 2 per.
At least it's illegal here in Denmark to resell tickets over base value
It's illegal everywhere...so?
But that's Denmark. People and government are intelligent there. Not like Canada!
As a Canadian, I second agree.
@@mr.balloffur Not anymore..
parsi zaban Supreme Leader Trudeau needs to go.
I remember seeing a documentary about this when I was a kid. Except it was about brokers using special phone systems to call ticket lines like 100 times a minute. It's nice to see nothing has really changed in 15-20 years.
“We blocked millions of bots.”
“We don’t know what sales went to bots.”
Hmm...
(Kinda basic explanation)
They are IP based bots, so when a bot is flag from systems, they then share this with all others and they are then IP banned and stop if they try again. But if it's not from a flag IP then it will look like any other consumer.
Well I mean they can count the tickets reselling on resale sites and do the math, but not sure how they're able to figure out how many are bots and brockers :/
Used to be illegal to resell tickets... really? seems like it's always been happening as long as online ticket purchases have been a thing.
Like most forms of prohibition it failed miserably.
In many US States 'scalping IS illegal" ...However, with electronic buying this is impossible to enforce.
And if limits are placed, the bots and brokers will simply find a way around the regs.
The only way to absolutely put the brokers out of business or to severely curtail, is to do walk up sales only.
But, I know that back in the day of venue only sales. brokers would hire people to stand on line, but the max number of tickets, then put the tickets on sale in the newspaper or other print publication.
There is no way to stop this business.
"There is no way to stop this business."
That isn't entirely true there is one way... if people stopped buying tickets from scalpers then they would disappear quite quickly but that probably isn't happening at all
Jo Viljar I totally agree. It is only buyers willing to pay such inflated prices that allows these brokers (aka scalpers) to profit.
@@patersonplankrd Scalping is illegal .. but scalping is defined as in person resell at or near the event. Online is not considered scalping, but a resell. Like Wal-mart selling you a box of cereal.
Got "best seats available" to a concert seconds after they went on sale. $65.00 each from Ticketmaster. Second row from the top of a hockey arena down by the other end's blue line. The stage was where the goal would have been. I used binoculars to see the performance. What really steamed my clams was that of all the people around me, I was the only person who actually paid for my seats! Everyone else got free tickets from a radio station!
I guess if the fans stop going for 2 or 3 concerts this would probably bankrupt the scalpers
It works like the stock market.
I'll never forget. I tried to buy tickets to concert literally seconds after the tickets went on sale and bam they where "sold out". I was so annoyed!
This is why I haven't been to a concert since 1999... before technology got too carried away
.....that's a terrible reason to deprive yourself of live music for the past 20+ years...
Its like me saying i will never do ebay because i got screwed out of japanese region pokemon gba games, 17ish years ago. Just be savvy and dont pay much over face value. In 7-8 years concert going, I never paid over face value...but ticketbastard is a shady company though.
firebirdude2 I used to go to concerts.
The prices for good acts have go beyond what I consider reasonable.
@@firebirdude2 The artist is also getting screwed out of money. Prince ticket was $70. Scalper was getting $350. Artist gets none of that. I ended up only going to shows where entertainer opened up more times just before the main event. Paid face value for top acts-good seats. Skipped a lot because I was unwilling to pay hundreds of dollars.
My husband and I saw Bruno Mars twice. The first and second time we got tickets no problem. On his last tour we tried to get tickets. I waited for the very moment they went on sale (I was excited) and even then they were totally “sold out”. I thought maybe they were releasing some at a time... nope, totally gone. You could buy a resell ticket though! The were tickets being sold for “behind the stage” for as much prime seats. It’s insane. I hate these people.
The artists are just as much as fault.
I remember my mom wanted to see Adele live so I considered buying her tickets for her birthday but when I was looking online the tickets were way overpriced and what's worst is knowing whether you will be getting authentic tickets or not!!! I agree with that ex-botter the main problem is the bots..that would take out "1/3" right will give the little guys a fighting chance.
why can't they use OTP kind of system where you have to verify the number sent to your mobile for every two tickets or so to counter the bots..and as for the problem of brokers, they should issue tickets to only those who show legal identity proof i.e. if you are buying two tickets you should bring two separate legal identity proofs..maybe this can help to eliminate the problem to some extent.
Can i ask then, why is that fair to me? If i have to a couple days till i get paid, why should i suffer unless it really is actually sold out?
i feel like there are multiple solutions which ticket master doesn't seem to want to utilize
Wow! "Since I got sober" rocks back and forth and makes the craziest face. Yeaaa ok buddy.
Easy way to prevent this , when you buy a ticket from ticketmaster they should force you to give your name , then print the name on the ticket and check id's . Problem solved
I buy tickets for other people all the time. And it will only put an extra load of work on event staff. There should be an authentication when buying them, like a capcha.
bots can do captcha, VIA captcha resolving human farms on low income countries, it costs like a couple cents of USD for the most complex google shiet, cheap even if youre required to fill in several of them per ticket, if you're reselling something worth tens to hundreds of USD
Can't do that. There are always instances where for whatever reason the buyer cannot attend. Should the buyer then be stuck with a ticket they cannot use?
if the buyer is already getting screwed right now by having to overpay, then what's the issue? the loss to legitimate buyers would be much less if they just lost their money if they couldnt attend, instead of having to pay 2x or more the ticket price right now.
Do you buy plane tickets for other people too?
Why cant they buy their own?
Tickets should require name and ID should be checked at gate, but you could have same name on 5 tickets (group tickets)
"Since I got sobber" *Blinks at disjointed intervals*
Aw, why were you crying?
omg marketplace is back awesome
Eventually fans are going to be fed up and stop buying tickets, then the industry is screwed.
I agree. Scalpers just play with fans emotions. Its the worst when the Blue Jays and Raptors make the playoffs and the average joe can't afford the tickets but since theres always demand for it, the rich folk will ultimately get it
Just like people stop buying trendy clothes because they're not a good value. It doesn't happen. Emotions get in the way, and people pay.
Apparently scalpers are just greedy and like to take advantage of people’s emotions towards artists, teams, etc.
Lots of fans will do anything to see their favourite artist though, even if it means buying a ticket 7x the price
RedFacedGaming It's why I don't buy tickets. I like the way Louis CK sells tickets though - it's through his own website and its DRM free - it also prevents robots from buying all the tickets.
make it illegal to sell tickets more than face value
In most of the US and Canada this was the law until around 2010. And it stopped nobody ever.
They made drugs illegal that didnt stop the sale of drugs.
Not to be rude but that idea is idiotic. I mean it literally has never worked ever. Ever ever ever. When it comes to money, resources, or just things people want to have the law is just an afterthought.
Make tickets personal and non-transferrable. Or make it next to impossible to transfer tickets without IDs of both parties and approval from the venue. Then - there will be no point to do it for these thieves.
The problem is when you've got 50k people to ID upon entry into the venue. The venue wouldn't really care as long as you had a ticket. Furthermore, if I wanted to transfer a ticket to my brother last minute, I doubt there would be enough time to have the ID credentials approved. Maybe a pre-approval system would work much better, but it's still a tall and expensive task that private vendors won't care for.
@@AkkayaOzgun The extra cost of IDing attendants and matching it with their named tickets could easily be covered by en extra £5 on each ticket. I would absolutely pay £5 more if it meant that I had a fair shot at getting a ticket for the face value. If you don't want to commit to a show and transfer your ticket to your brother on the last minute, that's on you. Maybe you'll just lose that ticket, then. The small number of people who would bail on a big gig ticket last minute is insignificant in comparison to the terrible issue with scalpers we have right now.
Go back to old fashioned way of selling tickets only at ticket windows with limits.
Donald Mosher it's not like having massive crows like that annoy people or like it's a massive waste of time
Umm no. That’s going backwards not forward. Things just don’t tend to work that way. It may be unfortunate in this case but once one technology replaces another it’s very nearly impossible to go back. It would be like getting rid of cars and only using horses because of carbon emissions. Society just doesn’t tend to go back when a new way of doing things has been created.
"Progressivism" for the sake of it is just mental illness. If one tries a new way, and it doesn't work they generally revert back to the method which was originally successful. Comparing this to horse and buggy? The car was an improvement, this was not.
Amanda G what about people who work during the day or live far away from cities?
I'm sure this also happens in the US as well.
In the beginning that scammer guy that was using bots is in NEVADA. Which is in the US.
It's terrible here

Oh yes! Big time
I love how the best bands play general admission shows and are easy to get tickets to. There are some exceptions. I saw Slayer, but we were so far away and sitting in chairs. Horrible experience. I want to be near the band and in the pit.
Ticketmaster themselves have started scalping "reselling" best seats in the house on their own main website. Happened when I tried for Gaga. I have an account with them, was logged in half hour before the presales started, refreshed right when they went on sale and just kept getting resale ticket offers from Ticketmaster. They were selling all of the best seats in the place on that page, for $300-700 each ticket! Not even a pair, those prices were single tickets.
I feel so bad for the people who want to get in but can’t afford to pay $1200 for a single ticket
can someone enlighten me?
there are millions of website who uses technology to distinguish between a human and a bot, how come your tech doesn't "work"?
and they have similar success rates, its just a numbers game pure and simple, and ticket reselling is incredibly profitable, so it has more bots thrown at it
WOW, they have a packed show, and it's the first time I'm hearing of a band Tragically Hip!! 😂😂😂
Did you listen to the clips? Now you know why...LOL
Because they're terrible..
The tragic.. part of the name is true
what's so funny?
Amazing band, Canadian legends
Tony Olynyk Sum 41 are Canadian legends because they’re known outside of the country
Canada has a way of making something that everyone in Canada knows about and yet no one outside of Canada has heard of, just like this band.
I swear! Who are they? I thought they were bringing Hendrix back from the dead with Elvis and all of the dead ones.
This is the reason why I've never been to a concert, football game, hockey game, etc. I went to concerts in high school(Max Webster, Rush, Shooter, etc.) and paid the actual ticket price for them. Why should I let these greedy rip-off artists and scalpers make more money than I do, at making an honest living?! It's disgusting and pathetic that these scum-bags are making money off of a man(Gord Downie) who has a serious health issue.
I've never even heard of this band...
You aren't canadian eh?...
It doesn't matter what your opinion of the band is, you should be disgusted by the fact that scalpers were buying up tickets to the Tragically Hip concert because they knew a band member was dying and it will be the last time fans will see him alive. The scalpers know the fans will pay extra to see him so they jack the price outrageously. A great system right? Where a tidy profit can be made off of a dying man.
Guess i must be american cause i dunno who that band is
That's because they're not very good. They're only popular because they're Canadian.
You're not a hoser like us then.
Well that explains the ridiculous prices for the BTS concert tickets
I still paid £470 face value plus £70 fees upfront on bts seated tickets
Ticket scalping is in every country, the Super Bowl is a prime example. I once went to Spain to watch a bullfight after reading Hemingway and when I got to the ticket window they were sold out but scalpers were there to sell me a ticket above the window price.
Ticketmaster can fix it, it wouldn't be hard, but they're in the business of selling every ticket they have, so they don't have any inventive to fix it.
"A fool and their money are soon parted."
Who in their right mind would waste $1200 on a single concert ticket?!
fleurgi I spent over $6000 on 2 World Series tickets his year. It was worth it though.
It's the concept of its the "last" show demand goes up supply is limited and thus the price that people are willing to pay more

Same thing happened to Bruno Mars tickets in Hawaii. Three back-to-back shows go on sale, and they sell out almost immediately. I refuse to buy from a third-party sales site. Ticketmaster doesn't care, they get their money, third-party sellers get theirs, scalpers get theirs ... at the end of the day, fans are the one's who lose out.
Great report, very enlightening
It's bullshit, for the past two years, I've been unable to go to the Banff Mountain Film Festival because they get sold out in a few hours.
I'm actually appreciative of how the band I like is not popular in my state. I actually can get reasonably priced tickets whenever they come here. I want them to earn more and grow their fanbase, but I still hope they stay unloved so I can love 'em ❤️
I've been to over 100 concerts and have NEVER had a problem buying a ticket. I buy them presale because I have an account with a venue. I buy them directly from the venue. Why are these people standing in line for Hip tix? I've never stood in line. I've also bought NHL tickets through stubhub from season ticket holders and have always got them cheaper. If you are a Habs or Leafs fan go to Buffalo to see a game. The tickets are cheaper to begin with. I have never bought directly from Ticketmaster. This episode of MP is all news to me.
I had no idea this existed. Your hits content is excellent. Thank you.

I don't go to concerts anymore. When I was younger I actually had a client give me lawn tickets for a lot of concerts for free. And if I wanted to get a better seat I got lucky and had an option for a small fee. But I LOVED the Lawn seating. So I took people who couldn't normally buy a ticket and enjoyed our time. Nowadays I don't have the connection. And when I was able to get extra free tickets I NEVER charged ANYONE
The problem is that the authorities allow sellers like Stubhub (and even worse Ticketmaster) to broker resales at inflated prices. There is a set price on those tickets. It shouldn't be permissible to resell online for more than you paid. There will always be scalping, but the fact that Ticketmaster is allowed to provide the marketplace is mindboggling.
Stop buying the overpriced tickets, this is the only way to stop scalpers. You can't be that mad when you allow yourself to be hustled. Every single person who purchased a $40 ticket for $1200 is part of the problem.
Looks like a perfect tax invasion scheme, bust them for failing to pay the taxes.
Dougie Drums unfortunately you're right man...
I never knew about presales until I watched marketplace and because of you guys I was able to get tickets to see my favourite artist at face value!
The way you can avoid Bots getting onto your ticket website is to use a software called reCapcha. The software determines if it's a human or bot requesting access to your website.
In the Soviet Union this was criminalized and was punishable by fines, mandatory work or even prison for major violators. Section 154 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic - "Speculation"
Patrice Lumumba That's true, and I think that is a good idea.
Right. And we all know how that whole Soviet experiment ended.
4 and a half years later. and this is still a problem.. and has gotten worse
I've seen the tragically hip at least 10 times dating back to the late 80s and I have never paid more than $40 for a ticket. One show at Fort Henry around the summer of 1990 or 91 was somewhere in the $5 to $10 range. The early shows were a lot better and cheaper. By 2000, the ticket price was too high.
Here's a simple solution. when you buy a ticket you have to type your name which is then printed on the ticket. No resell value as only the person who can use the ticket is the named person.
Thanks for the business idea Maretplace!
How to stop the brokers, scalpers and bots in general. Don't ever buy from them. If you want to buy on stubhub or what ever site don't buy unless they are priced at face value or below.
Another reason tickets get released at the day of the show is the resellers using their ticket insurance they purchased on tickets they didn't sell so they then only loose out on a little pocket change they more then made up on selling others.
There is also the possible instance where once they set up the stage in the venue they see they can add a few more rows of seats or open up sections to sides of stage.
I am thinking possibility that brokers are working for TicketMaster and Live Nation
Emmers Ebon Hawk y
How about selling tickets offline and fixed tickets per person(using ID)? Meaning no bots and no re-sending.
AC/DC in 2009 required the credit card that was originally used to purchase the ticket to be produced and swiped at the entrance of their concerts. We got great seats for face value, it was awesome.
Honestly, I love the CBC, I hope to work there someday
Even though I'm Australian 😂 high dreams
Rush is the Canadian rock gods.
Ticket sellers also added the "convenience fee" to every ticket whether or not you buy them physically at the box office or through the internet. And it's not cheap.
Rush R40 June 19 2015 I didnt try for the best seats , I bought two tickets in the greys but close to the stage. and ended up with rails, Best seats ever! even better than floors, 66 bucks
The big problem IS Live Nation. They own Tickertmaster, who owns StubHub etc on down the line. Live Nation is a monopoly who should be broken up.
i think cbc did a poor job of showing this
Rock gods? The media builds these bands into something they are not. Most of the fans are just standing there! you'd think for that price they would at least dance to the music. As for myself I watch them on RUclips and bought a ticket to sunny Cuba for the same price as the show. Sad how it works. Thank you marketplace. I love your show.
Or at that price we enjoy how we want it?
at the end where said like 150 to 200 tickets were released. its actually very common for random seatings to be picked out to be held onto before tickets are even released to public. In a large event room, Yes Hundred or more seats could be held onto before a event. Sporting events do it all the time, They usually will hold onto a bunch of tickets to be released on game day. I have worked at couple ticket booths in past. where we would be giving a hour or two before show starts a run down. With how many tickets we have left and are up for sale. Usually we can only sell them at a certain time. like 30 mins before the show starts and like half hour to hour after show starts. but it happens
So i bought a ticket to see my chemical romance in the states. Seat price 200, with taxes etc 270USD. I was curious if it was a good deal or not so I went immediately back in and looked at the seat directly behind me. $1,000 USD, without the taxes etc. They knew that would be a high demand concert and labeled the seat as a platinum seat which "are premium tickets to concerts and other events made available by artists and event providers through Ticketmaster. They give fans fair and safe access to some of the best seats in the house" ie changing price per demand. How is that not illegal...
This is why there should be those Picture "Are You A Human" type test.
Bots have been able to beat those for a while now.
in other countries its illegal to buy tickets from unapproved places or online stores
yea but we are a democracy not a dictators nation, so is free-market, and our government enforces a play fair freedom market,
MrMundo3d Lol you understand that Canada just made bots illegal, and plenty of other countries have for years.
Rip ViPriN
if they made it illegal, then why are canadians still getting away with using bots to get tickets
the legality doesn't really matter. the time it would take to track these people down wouldn't be worth it for the police.
I've never heard of the band, but from the short clip that you showed of them 'singing' I'm not sure I would've even paid face value for a ticket!
Many comments sections force you to do a little test to prove you're not a bot. Rather than outlawing the bots buying up the tickets, they could require having that sort of check required to sell items like tickets online. That could help reduce the issue of bots buying up tickets.
Yeah, ticket master and live nation just don't care.
11:43 Well said. "When you take art away from the people that's a problem"
"Brokers" are just scalpers with better PR. They both need to be removed from the equation.
Registering for classes at my Uni is a lottery and places are taken literally within the first second.
Oh, and some VIPs get free awesome seats.
This is happening in America constantly and we are so over it
The TicketMaster rep (exec) is a LIAR.
A company that makes that much money, has that many resources. Yet they claim (actually they LIE) that their is nothing they can do about the bots?
Anyone with an intermediate knowledge of computers in general knows the facts - which are considerably different from what the Ticketmaster exec is claiming. The Ticketmaster monopoly simply has zero interest in wanting to change anything

Ticketmaster also allows resale tickets now on their site. So scalpers buy them on ticketmaster and turn around and sell them on ticketmaster for 5 to 10 times more.
ok, I'm 1 1/2 year later but you must know that in Belgium, it is illegal to resale tickets over price. you can only resale you ticket in the same value that you purchased it. No proffits are allowed
Never heard of them must be a Canadian thing
Me neither. Canadians are highly protective of their native born talent.
I have friends from Canada,. To them people like Bryan Adams and Gordon Lightfoot are deities.
Zero bolded albums on RYM. Not worth looking into imo.
Geezzz.... I don't think I know anyone who haven't heard of the Hip - I'm Canadian and I have several friends from the States and they all know who the Hip are. --- what does "Canadians are highly protective of their native born talent" mean? That's a funny comment.
it's easy to fix this , do what I do , only watch things that are free , don't give any of these people your hard earned money including the stars and athletes because if they cared so much about you they would stop it by having you show in person to purchase at a limit of 4 just like they did before the W.W.W.
Totally agree
In Australia sculpting is illegal and you're only allowed to purchase a certain number of tickets to restrict sculpting. Also they only sell a certain amount at different days. So if you miss out one day you can still get some the next day.
I am also wondering why the Slayer farewell tour sold out in minutes, when in 2016 their tickets were still on sale right up until the day of the show
Seriously need to just attatch a name to the ticket. But im sure ticketmaster wont do that because these bots also make them money
4:37 "sober"
He's probably a compulsive gambler that haven't slept for a while. I've never been to Las Vegas but I'd imagine that's how one looks like.
He looked tanked on Xanax and/or opiates.
@@xeldinn86 Seems like both to me. You can tell opiates is a given.
he looked soooo messedup...what was he like before he got "sober"?
I saw tragically hip in 11 and 15 so grateful
I was lucky that my first concert was very low demand, in a small venue, and with my favorite band. I could imagine that scalpers would be very annoying.
