I agree. I have pulled in more than $435k since 2020 through my advisor. It pays off more in the long run to just pick quality stocks and ride with those stocks.

I remember when my daughter was little I received a package of diapers from a social service agency and I felt like I was handed a one-hundred dollar bill. I always gave back as my daughter was growing and still will help those that need it. I was an educated person but I fell on bad times and needed help. We all need to help each other. Disposable diapers are a fairly recent invention. My mother raised two children with cloth washable diapers. Maybe we need to go back to that. Eighty dollars a month for diapers is a huge amount of money for low income households.

I'm from a 3rd world country. The way I see it you're not that poor, you're lucky that a lack of diaper is already considered as a major problem. Food and shelter is the #1 problem of poor people. Having a diaper is already a luxury for most people.
Its called developing or underdeveloped man, third world country means the country which dont support russia or usa in any war or conflict, like uk, france are first world as they support usa, and cuba and belarus are second world as theumy support russia

But this is not a third world country. It is suppose to be the land of opportunity. But I have been working jobs since I was 11. Now I am facing widowhood and complete disaster. Homelessness, I wont go hungry, I hope I can keep my car. Time will tell. But it should not have been a struggle all my life only to end up a poor widow. That was not what we were told would be our end in the U.S.A.

Or we live in a free society that allows people to make decisions, such as working 80 hours a week or going to college for a degree in art. If you do/dont 3 things, then the chance of you remaining in poverty is less than 90%. I grew up in trailerville il, if you are southerner you will know where that is, i now live, in urbana, and study, on government loans, at uiuc. I take the bus everyday, and some 15 yr old kid was shot, about a week ago, less than 3 minutes from where i live. My brother just graduated from uiuc with a salary over 80,000k and hella good benefits. After 25, poverty is nothing more than a set of choices, you make FREELY. Im not gonna force you to study or learn a valuable skill, usually at a secondary school, but if you choose not to do these things, then do not come complaining to me about being poor. You made your bed, now sleep in it; however you could always grow the HELL up and work incredibly hard to put your life together. Dont give me those bullshit excuses about privilege or some people cant because their environment. We, my father, brother and sister, use to share our three bedroom house with my homeless cousin, whose parents kicked him out because their apartment couldnt have more than two people living there. He graduated, three years ago, from the ibew and has a small house with a wife and kids. He went from making literally NOTHING to 20 an hour, as an apprentice, and now at 38 dollars an hour. He is now a role model to his kids and someone i am proud to call a friend. If that dumb fuck could do it, then most any able body can.

To save money or provide more for everyone, just provide two packages of cloth diapers for every baby. Disposable diapers are a complete waste of money. They also harm the environment.
Anyone can spend money. Putting it to better use actually requires more thought. Hope this program changes for the better.

Diane R. I suggested this and got all kinds of excuses like they may not have a washer and dryer or money for the laundromat. Guess they never heard of a clothesline. It seems to me as if a lot of them think it is beneath them to mess with cloth diapers. And even though they don't show it much in these documentaries the majority of them smoke and always seem to have money for cigarettes. Amazing, huh?
If you are a working parent and your children go to daycare they cannot use cloth diapers at daycare.
The jobs don't provide an escape from poverty from me.
@@ohioitis200 okay, are you offering to watch the kids, run the errands and so their paid full time job so they have the time to wash diapers by hand and hang dry them? BTW, many people do NOT have access to a clothes line outdoor. At best they can have a makeshift one inside....without air flow and with kids running around, that is not feasible to keep up with the laundry

There is a mantra that some economists hold which is "Don't do for people what they can do for themselves." I thought about that when I saw them handing out all those diapers.

I am a working single parent. I can not afford to stay home and use cloth diapers. No daycares in my area, a major city accept cloth diapers.

The rent prices in America are getting worse. I live in a large town and when I moved here 5 years ago, a two bedroom house was around $700 a month. In 5 years they've demolished majority of our affordable houses and rebuilt small 2 story townhouses. All the homes around me are now $1400 a month. Rent has doubled in 5 years and all the locals have been displaced. They wonder why our homeless problem has increased.

You cant fine anything around me for $1400. Finding a home below $450K that doesnt need 100s of thousands of dollars of work...immediately , or is in a high crime area is impossible. Meanwhile property taxes are like 10k plus a year on that property.

Sometimes never happens which is why less people are having kids than ever in history. But even with all precautions, shit happens. Many people get pregnant on birth control, so you just do the best you can
And sometimes you can't control what happens because you live in a red state without any abortion clinics and can't afford to go out of state and miss days of work.
Sex ed in the US is terrible and sometimes nonexistent, it's absurdist to victim blame when the system doesn't give you the option to succeed.

If you wait to have kids until you are old enough to afford them, you will be too old to have them safely in the first place. This logic chain of "kill your kids for the sake of your finances" is an unsustainable logic chain. As we are seeing in Japan, if you don't have kids then there won't be enough people to take care of you when you are too old o work.
Nobody who has got a job in this country should be living in a poverty level, it is not about the individual, it is the system that kept them poor.

Living in Canada. There are several benefits from the government if you have children. Everything goes up every year. However, it drives me nuts is when young people who are capable to work take advantage of these benefits and not work at all.

I think part of the issue with culture everywhere is that culture defines what is acceptable for people to do. I know very poor families that refuse to go on welfare out of pride as well as families that will shop at target instead of Walmart despite poverty so avoid the image of being a poor Wal-Mart shopper

Nobody said they were jobless. It has nothing to do with having a job, all to do with their costs of living in relation to the amount of income coming in. Many of people in poverty have SEVERAL JOBS.. that's the only way they can make ends meet. Did you not listen to the part about how it effects CHILDREN the most? They are BORN INTO POVERTY. @Senad kl All of the reasearch in economics and sociology points to people being influenced by their environment. So if you provide more opportunities to poor people (education, money) it enables them to make better decisions and makes for a better society (reducing inequality is linked to better economic growth and social cohesion).

You would need infrastructure to wash them, the cost of washing them let alone having a washing machine and soap eat up what you would save. Additionally, children outgrow cloth diapers really fast, you can't just put a rag on a kid; well I mean... You could, but I imagine that would be extremely messy given most baby poos are very very watery.

Yes, we used terry nappies for our children. We sanitised, washed and dried them. Now it is the expensive disposable dippers everybody uses.

But why are they having children knowing they can't afford to look after them that is the primary cause here. I know some people lost jobs after they had children but ill guarantee that having a child benefit would just increase the amount of babies people are having like here in South Africa.

@JankaKijanka It's not, diapers are expensive, and in developing nations, it is a luxury item for the wealthy. Diapers are not necessary, humans have lived for thousands of years without it and many poor countries still don't use them. I was born in the 90s and I never had diapers. It is a convenience item, not a necessity.

@JankaKijanka I didn't say internet and computers weren't necessary only cell phones, I have a computer and internet (obviously) and I manage just fine without a cell phone. Plastic nappy's are NOT essential, nor are cell phones. Cloth nappy's are a different matter. I don't doubt that life is hard for these families as it is for most of us, I am just saying that the priorities seem to be askew in America. Also you are very lucky to live in a country where not having a cell phone is considered poor when there are millions of people living in countries that struggle to even put a meal on the table (if they are rich enough to even have a table) every day.

These days you have to be wealthy to use cloth diapers. Look at the costs and you’ll be surprised.

It is so admirable of Anne to start this charity. There are many people who give of their personal time and money to help others.
For everyone who think that they're being profound by asking, "Why not just have less children? If it's expensive to have one, why have more?" - understand that the long-term effects of poverty creates a fatigue on the mind. This fatigue makes it much more difficult to make decisions that would effect future outcomes (i.e. planning).
If you've ever taken a test and received a bad grade because something else was occupying your mind, imagine the occupation of worrying about where food will come from, if the lights will stay on, if there'll still be a roof over your head, etc... Imagine your mental bandwidth constantly being pulled to its limits - poor decisions are bountiful with the poor, because of this.
The decision to have a child may come from a place of love at the moment, and we may all have our disagreements about that for wherever we may come from personally, but the action which is being focused on this piece is doing something about those children living in poverty. Poverty is cyclical, and it can be reduced if we do something about the development of children as they grow. It's bad enough that their parents are dealing with the fatigue of poverty, but it's worse when the children will have to grow up with it for most of their lives because people want to place the onus of responsibility on the parents themselves. It takes a community to raise a child well.
@Ryan Arthur - I listened to a podcast once where they took wealthy volunteers and played games while restricting their time. The time restriction simulated the money/resource restrictions that many face. The results were that any restriction of resource increased stress and fatigued the mind, thus leading to bad decisions. I agree with your statement that fatigue of the mind drives many of their decisions.

Humans are not animals, we have the ability to think and control ourselves. Slap on a rubber or abstain. The poor are typically poor for a reason. A lifetime of poor choices in life. No willpower, no self control. Impulsive thinking. As long as humanity has existed there has been poverty and as long as humanity exists there always will be poverty. You as an individual need to make choices in life and be accountable for yourself. Victimhood mindset, blaming others, and not thinking beyond today will keep you where you are. No amount of money will help. Since the Great Society started we have transferred untold trillion$ to the poor and it makes no difference. Follow the money and power and you will see who benefits. The poor and the homeless are an industry.

People are poor even if they are working full time and have a second job. Wages have not kept up with the cost of food, rent and healthcare. Corporations have thrown their employees on the backs of the tax payers by not providing a living wage or healthcare. Capitalist Greed!

Where I live a small 2 bedroom apartment costs $1700 a month, town houses cost about the same amount, and single family homes cost $2000+ a month. Why don't we have affordable housing anymore?
I'm hoping corona at least brings rents under control. Considering wages in the US, $1700/month for rent should get you a luxurious apt. that only a wealthy person could afford. Just read Manhatten has tons of empty apts, average rent on 2 BR is $4,620 but salaries are high. Problem is most apts are owned by small business ppl, not large corps. So when ppl can't pay rent, businesses will collapse. Either rentals will become affordable again or large corps or foreign interests will buy up the properties and NY will become like Miami Beach, once a sleepy little town that time forgot until it turned into a jet setters hot spot and houses that rented for $300/month became $3000/night tourist digs.
@@grandmalovesmebest big corps and investors will wait for those properties to crash. Then they will sit on them and keep them off the market so they can maximize profits. Its what happened in 2008 following the crash. The banks just sat on foreclosed homes so they wouldnt depress real estate further. Our whole legal system is predicated on protecting private property. I mean that. The oldest laws that get cited are property laws from before the US was founded. Property and our Trust and Estate laws are rooted in Medieval England. The people who founded the US were wealthy land owners. The whole country needs restructuring. but it wont happen.

Dude that's crazy here in the Netherland I live in a home with 3 rooms kitchen shower and pay 450 euro p/m . I must admit i got lucky but otherwise it would be around 700 perhaps
I work 15+ hours of overtime every week to try and make ends meet and get ahead, but because I start to make a little more, we then consistently are over thresholds for assistance and thus do not qualify for help...but that's crazy because the only reason we are making that much is because I'm working so insanely unhealthily hard..... they don't take into consideration the difficulty of maintaining such a hard-working lifestyle and the toll on the family. I want a break, I could use the help but they don't give it. I have applied to other jobs but the one I'm at pays the most and offers the most OT so there is no logical move. It seems like IF I get a raise in pay it simply covers the raise in rent and there is no end in sight-- throw in inflation and other services that keep going up... every year it feels like we are back to square one. They system is broken.

Not having kids is not a solution. Look at what is happening in Japan. They followed that advise and now their population is shrinking and they cannot support their elderly as the burden on the young is too much as it isn't spread out. If your plan for the economy doesn't account for and support the next generation, then it isn't sustainable and the plan must be thrown out.

When I was a new mum there were cloth nappies ("diapers") , we washed and reused them. Disposables were for when you were travelling long distances with your baby, and couldn't wash and dry them.
I remember when someone said 'we are not part of poverty, and yet there is still something basic that we couldnt buy.'

I was in a grocery store a couple of years ago. I was in line there was 2 shopping carts on my right full of cereal I started putting my things up. The man said wait he pulled those shopping carts with the cereal after he got the total he paid for all that cereal with food stamps.
I’m an educated poor person who technically would be in poverty. Since covid and the cares act, the cash has started to maybe get me to a better life. So far, i have gotten my missing teeth restored, paid all my bills and then some for 7 months, have better quality life, and am going back to school to earn a business license. It’s still very hard. I do not have ample savings to afford rent and live at home. I have only 2k to my name and am chronically ill. I am trying my best to NOT become poor, yet highly educated. I have two college degrees, and live on Long Island, which is extremely competitive

What some people doesn’t realize is. Not everyone has a mom, dad, brother, sister, etc... If you’re a single person, or a parent and lose your job you could be homeless in a snap of a finger. The cost of living, health care, etc... it can be really tough to make it anymore.
This may be an unpopular opinion, but if you can't afford disposable diapers, why not just use baby napkins? Those exist. When I was a kid, my parents put those on me. If you're going to wash disposable diapers anyway, just use baby napkins (whatever it's called in your country). It's cheap and lasts forever, however long cotton lasts. You buy it once, you can use it forever. If I were to look in an old cupboard in my grandpa's house, I'm very sure I can find a baby napkin that was not only used for my mother when she was a baby, but also used for my uncles and aunts and probably my big brother too.
Reusable diapers would be such a problem solver. I’ll never understand why people have such large families they simply can’t provide for.

My daughter has recently returned from USA and was shocked by the poverty in the towns she travelled through, many tent cities for the homeless. Also hearing stories of being medically bankrupt because at 7 years old she had her appendix out and the health insurance did not pay as it was not considered an emergency. I live in a country that has a great public health system.

I raised kids in the disposable diaper era, except I used cloth diapers. I washed, hung dry and folded them myself.

I’m so confused 😐 So here’s a lady who lives on handouts (see 3:00-3:30) but she has 5 kids and drives a Mazda CX-9...not exactly sound economic choices for someone who’s “struggling” financially. I mean a single child is estimated to cost you upward of $200k and that’s not even talking about 5! I don’t mean to be insensitive but I come from South Africa where poor means literally living in a 50ft2 leaking tin shack with nothing but a rusted broken down third hand bicycle to get around on. One of the many reasons for the deplorable crime rate here. Education is the single greatest lifeline out of poverty in a world where even poverty is a very relative concept.

I recently saw another video about how in the US the minimum wage is still at the same level where it was a few decades ago. Perhaps that is the reason why people can't afford anything any more?
Honestly poverty is problem in American simply because most Americans don’t care about lower income/ poor people. There are a lot of rational administrative reasons as for why poverty hasn’t improved over the years like the one you mentioned but more often than not our countrymen like to go through mental gymnastics to explain why poor people have no one to blame but themselves for being poor.
It's also a problem when people make bad life choices. Has Ben Shapiro has stated, there are three things you can do to ensure that you never are poor: finish high School, get a job, and don't have kids until you're married. And I also my dad don't have kids unless you can afford them.

Most daycares do not accept cloth diapers. I have always been a working parent and my kids had to go to daycare since they were 2 months old and no daycares in my area (a major city) accepted cloth diapers.

I remember back when JFK was president, my aunt had a diaper service. It was a cloth diaper and when my baby cousin finished with his business, my aunt flushed his business down the toilet and put it in a diaper bag. [And she only flushed the toilet once and didn't have to do it three or four times to get rid of my baby cousin's business either]. Some of my aunties just brought diapers and washed them in the washing machine. Those which weren't too bad was handed down. Those that were a big worn was used to dust furniture. There's been a lot of changes in sixty years.

washing and reusing diapers also uses resources... when gram ma did it she was doing it in a washtub and tossing the water outside.. do that now and you will get arrested.... or today you can get a hose attachment and wash them out in the toilet... we did it, it is messy, nasty, dirty... we could afford diapers so we stopped... I would not wish it on my enemy.... It might save money.. but it is a time killer and unsanitary
