Awesome video, like it was made in the 1800s and recently unearthed. Great cabin and wonderful way to get away from it all. Great use of rebar and I liked the whittling too.

I bought an 1765 cape in Maine in 1984. Conditions were primitive. Two woodstoves,no bath, Unfinished upstairs, wiring chewed by squirrels, Dug well that went dry. It was like camping in a big wooden box. I insulated it as I went along. Beneath the old plaster in the rear room , the boards, sheething, was white washed. That showed they lived in it before it was plastered. It was quite the adventure and I arrived in October and had no firewood, It was 36x 30 feet and the ceilings were over 9 feet high. All the sheething was shiplapped,by hand . What a tremendous amount of work. I lived in one room right next to the woodstove. Why did you not board up your cabin, instead of weatherboarding it? Boarding and tarpaper used to be common. It works.
As many of the commenters stated it is draughty! I plan to chink the cracks in the spring with mud and grass. All the mud is frozen solid this time of year! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Not sure if there's history with your build and all, so I'm going from what I observe and pick up on, primarily the construction, basic really looks like drops from a saw mill, I saw you back filling the base of the cabin for a weather seal, can only imagine what a roll of oakum would do to keep the heat in and old man winter out, heard the draft from the stove, lots of air provided due to the many opening in the walls and where the roof meets the structure, your skill and enjoyment are apparent I applaud your hide away and your creative work, ill stay to see you fullfill your vision, thanks for the efforts, suggest a musical track low back ground to demonstrate your intent and musical message, every things visual they say, good stuff loved the simplicity of your great adventure, thank you
I wanted a primitive structure similar to that of an Adirondack hermit of the 1800"s. I did saw all the lumber on my Dad's sawmill. Unfortunately my camera was not available to film it. I'll be sure to video that part of the process in the future. Thanks for watching! and thanks for commenting!
Nice start! Nice fire, nice for getting out and going there. Must don't, won't, can't or otherwise... Improvements can always be made, but you have a spot. Wonder how far in, what part of the Dacks you in? A bit jealous I am... Congrats and God bless!
You're going to have to do an interior wall with insulation in between in order to get that cabin really nice and cozy including adding a ceiling with insulation between the roof and the ceiling wall.
Oh brother your cabin looks drafty and awful cold. Perhaps an extension to serve as sleeping and a dining area might give you a chance to construct but with much tighter joints. Your present camp could serve as summer quarters or be an excellent wood/tool and boot room, in which to keep things dry. A cozier better sealed addition might require a little more labor, but to do all the caulking necessary to cut drafts might not provide much more heat because of the shiplap design. I wish you well in your endeavors. Keep safe and well ! Have a happy new year.

Forget the naysayers, at least you have a cabin. I was wondering though, does it actually get warm inside even with all the leaks?
You are heating for the crows, a lot of holes in your walls and down at the floors. Are you going to insulate? Can be a very cozy small cabin then.
