Pianist is literally bathing in his music during solo. Jesus, these guys bring this most beautiful song right out here in our jazzy world. Excellent!!!
fell in love with these guys at the Village Vanguard New York 2005 - so many wonderful
tracks
I miss the trio
Thanks to the legend Keith Walker for this recording. Piano and bass sound is perfect. What a mix. Hats off mate.
Very true 👌🏿 😆
Silence means a lot. It makes you think about the words that were meant to be there - but aren't. You understand the words more.
from 3:00 onwards the pianist led me to a place which I believe many people call heaven.
that bass pierced the sky
It's a great song to begin with, but this is a stellar jazz interpretation that is harmonically interesting and unique. Good music, period.
Every time I listen to this song it's the best 6 minutes of my life.
I love the piano player's taste & restraint & the bassist's lyricism but how awesome is this drummer
This band's intention is unbelievable. Wonderful job.
The tone of the drums is otherworldly 💫
This drummer has real taste. He is serving the music.
Its called: playing the song.
Dave King is the man
Their use of space is mind-blowing I wish I would have known about this band sooner...oh the wasted years I could have been enjoying their music!!!
Amazing. These guys need more attention. Shame jazz isn't as popular as before.
It’s popular too you, me too so that’s all that matters init?
It's gaining ground! These marvelous people are contributing.
Jazz is too smart to be as popular as before. It might be better this way. More underground...exclusive, and smart.
@@youarewhatyourelookingfor4496Jazz has a comeback around the time of Prog and Funk has had a comeback over the past decade. It's nice to see.
David King sure knows how to 'feel' the music.
This drummer always amazes me with his intuition.
How I didn’t stumble upon this years ago baffles me.
The best concert I've ever seen was the Bad Plus circa "Prog." Got to talk to them a bit after the show, they were super humble-- a very talented, down to earth group of guys. If you ever get the chance to see them live, DO NOT MISS IT!
Agreed. I saw them during the same era and ended up buying PROG right after the show. Their live sound is incredible in that it often surpasses their recorded music. Most groups these days do the opposite - they obsess over recording and live shows end up being only a reminder of what the recorded track had achieved through mastering, effects and EQ wizardry. Only one other group I've seen to date has done the same thing - Kronos Quartet. Jazz trio, classical quartet; the things they have in common are sterile focus on instrumentation and writing. It really pays dividends to see either of them play a live gig.
I was 12 in the Prog era and would've killed to have seen them even back then. They were a childhood staple in my house. Always loved finding amazing musicians from my home state and they really take the cake even to this day. Cory Wong/The Hornheads are the people who have come near.
THOSE DRUMS ARE INSANE AT THE END AHH!!! What a MADMAN
Dave is one of the best and most over-looked drummers in the world. He has the phrasing of a pianist and the technical skill of Jojo Mayer.
They were just the coolest.
I come back at least once a year to see this Great Trio.
This song is one of my favourite songs in this world. I was a bit disappointed when I noticed there was no vocalist because I was looking was a nice, calming, jazz rendition like the one that was played at the party in Greek, the series, and I am now ashamed of myself for thinking this way. I had chills and I was moved to tears for no reason at various points watching this video. This is so beautiful.
A coworker from Canada just sent me this link, and WOW! What a great version of a great song! If it were ever going to be redone, this is exactly the way. Absolutely lovely.
These guys are incredible. I wish this video had millions of views.
I saw them in Cincinnati OH and it was just brilliant
Makes me miss Ethan. And the jazz scene before Covid.
These guys can play together with eyes closed. Such understanding between each others, such empathy, interaction. Wow. It's really awesome.
Sublime. The harmonies are delicious and rich!
Heard about this group by the British drummer, Andy Edwards. I just had to hear this song, one of my all time favorites and see how they treated it. Have to say I loved it.
This trio works so well together. Keith Walter, thank you for posting this!
Beautiful.
Thanks for uploading!
Means the world to me, truly @ Thanks to Tawanyh my Mexican friend for tipping me about this amazing piece of music right here.
Cheers from Scandinavia!
Dave King's still the man! got into this band when I was 17. Still well into them now :D so sick
Drummer's name is Dave King. Avant-garde jazz drumming at its highest aspiration, in my opinion.
This is incredibly and stunningly beautiful... One of my favorite songs in the best version ever!
Great to listen to a Trio performing with the creativity of each of its musicians, reminds me of the minimalism of the just late Master Ahmad Jamal RIP 🎹 🎻🥁
This is the Soul of improvisation-pristine, elegant, lyric! oyez oyez oyez.....
Mastery of all, but especially tension and release.
I get the chills EVERY TIME I watch this!
Outstanding!!!
Just caught this stellar trio at SF Jazz. Consummate and passionate professionals.
Wonderful stuff and wonderful band. This is what its about - taking a well known pop song and stretching it and bending it to create something quite spectacular. The drummer really cooks at the end and then drops down into an understated groove perfect for the end. Hey, everybody else is smoking as well!!! ...Jazz Plus...
The drummer is off the hook wonderful cover!!!
I never heard of this band. I was just listening to Itunes jazz radio and it came on. I already know the song - but could not place my finger on the name of it, since it was in jazz. Then I heard the last part - the drums / piano - soooooooo very pretty. Good job guys! This version just made my day, and my playlist.
My favorite version of this song 💛
Oh my goodness. This makes me so happy.
I'm just glad age has nothing to do with enjoying good music.
Saw them last night in Toronto. Love the Bad Plus.
That rendition totally blew me away.
dave is a beast
Tears of Love for the Fearless Bad Plus!
🙌🥰🙌
Beautiful arrangement.
Am I glad I came to this video tonight.
One word says it best, EARGASM!!! I love this cover.
They are sorely missed ...
It is magic - sitting on drums and piano at the same time.
4:26 outstanding!!
I almost cried.
wish I could have been there.
From 3:00 on, damn that is sexy. Might be one of my favorite live musical moments.
this kills. with the sharpest of teeth.
Still repeat playing this.
I love the performance. And the quality of the shooting and editing makes this maybe the best small-club performance video I've ever seen. (Not that I watch a lot, but nothing I've seen has edited multiple cameras.) Thanks!
So Good
I never had heard of them & only researched them because they're book for 2 shows at Yoshi's in Oakland. They're good and worth seeing.Oh,give the drummer some for being awesome.
Beautiful rendition!
pumped up the volume so the whole neighborhood listens to it.
This is the cover that hooked me on them.
Looking forward to catching their show at MJF this week! Thanks for posting this 🙏🙏🙏
Great tune.
I cried of happiness a little bit...
The Best arrangment ever for this song. (2)
Got my tickets for December in Milwaukee!
So clean. My trio is going to try this, but I won't measure up to Dave on this I'm afraid. I'll see if I can get a little closer to it every time. He does a lot of metric modulation here. You might have to just be born with that.
Stunningly beautiful 💖
I know that's totally unrelated, but it's funny that the pianist looks like Walter White, and the drummer looks like Hank Schrader, from Breaking Bad
i love it!
la façon de reprendre un morceau et d'en faire un standard c'est du caviar ... magnifique
Uh……wow & whoa!!! Stopped me in my musical tracks!!
As Johnny Otis would say, "They was tighter than a knot."
love it!!
amazing!
Beautiful!
