Are you considering another cereal in place of the oatmeal, Lilianna Ogilvie? That might work. Otherwise the oatmeal (rolled oats) are important for this recipe as a base for the other ingredients. If you don't want to use oatmeal, you could also choose a different recipe. Yes, you may substitute self-rising flour, mah noor. Just remember self-rising flour includes baking powder and salt, so you won't need to add either the baking soda or salt when preparing this recipe. No, you may skip the coconut, Maria Arredondo. The cookies may not have enough dry ingredients though, so you may also want to consider a different recipe. Hi Rimas, thanks for your question. You can use all white sugar in place of the brown sugar called for in this recipe. The cookies might not be as chewy without the brown sugar but will still be delicious! :)
you can make your own brown sugar by using 1 tablespoon of molasses and 1 cup of sugar, then mixing it together till it forms a packed brown mixture. :)
These cookies aren't supposed to be thin, Louis Malik. Did you measure everything accurately? Here's a link to the original recipe if you wish to check ingredient amounts: allrecipes.com/recipe/10245/oatmeal-chocolate-coconut-chewy/
