    After having Bichons for many years, we got a Coton. A lot like our Bichons but so soft & silky.
    Our little boy is 4 now & his name is Riley. He's a very sweet cuddly little boy.
    This is a fantastic breed for anyone. The don't shed, are easy to train, wonderful companions and are great around kids. They have a very happy, sweet disposition & love to cuddle.
    They smell like a little stuffed teddy bear.
    If you can locate a good breeder, I highly recommend this breed!

    What a great dog. We stumbled into the breed back in 1997. Living in California we found that waitlists were very long. While on a trip to Michigan I decided to see what the wait there might be like. While on the trip I was able to find Chloe Jean, or CJ as we call her. She will be 14 in May and still thinks she is a puppy. She is the joy of our life. If you are considering a Coton this video gives a great overview. We actually love the breed and our little clown dog.

    Nugget is a cutie. I’m so glad you are enjoying him. Is he more attached to you or your husband? My Coton, Bella Rose, 8 year’s old, went through the pearly gates last month. She was my best friend, companion, protector, giver of unconditional love, she loved life and would fly through the air. She would never take the little ramps we had, she would just fly over them. As I am homebound with serious chronic health issues, she was my entire life. I believe she knew I was ill, and was extra/overly protective. She would go to my husband for her meals, go do her business, and come right back to. So basically, she never left my side. I have just been devastated with her loss, and am looking forward to meeting her as I walk through the pearly gates.
    Enjoy you beautiful Nugget, there is nothing like a Coton for a loving companion!

      I would say he goes through phases of being attached to one of us more than the other. Some days he never wants to leave my husband's side and some days he never wants to leave my side.

He’s very quiet and loving, very smart, he was easy to train and loves to travel. Cino is good with other dogs and neighbors and children.

    We just got our Coton a month ago. As you did, we researched and thought this would be a good fit. She is a delight... We were lucky we found a breeder who wasn't to far away. They had lived in France for awhile and learned about the breed while there. Interesting fact, every year they name based on a letter. This year the letter was S, so we picked a name on that tradition. Looking forward to many wonderful years with our girl.

    Loved your story. I also have a Coton de Tulear. His name is Toby. He is 6.5 years old and the breeder was in Idaho here in the USA. I first saw the Coton in a dog book in 1994. I checked a dog magazine they had one breeder who was in Virginia. She wanted $2500 for a puppy and had a very long wait list. $2500 in 1994 is $4500 today. Then I saw Glenn Close on David Letterman show she brought her dog and everyone loved the breed.

    How do you keep his eyes so clean, mine is always a mess. I try the pads and stuff but they don't do much for the staining. I don't really mind that much because he's an awesome puper anyways. Cotton De Tulears are absolutely wonderful dogs, so hilarious and so loving.

    • @theadventuresofnugget63
      @theadventuresofnugget63  3 года назад

      Good question! We Honestly don't do much. While we are on vacation his tear staining got way worse and we have been told it could be a change in the water or stress related. It did decrease when we came back home. We use stainless steel bowls and wash them frequently. I've also been told if your water is heavy in minerals using a water filter or filtrated water can help. I clean his with a wash cloth and warm water is all.

    • @sira451
      @sira451 3 года назад +1

      I adopted 2 Cotons 9 years ago, litter mates. They bark at absolutely everything. I think each dog has their own personality and some dogs need to bark more than others. You can try to teach your dog not to bark so much, but if it's in their nature, there's little hope of changing that. As for this breed, please only consider them if you are willing to do the grooming necessary and daily teeth brushing is an absolute must. They are very active little dogs. Mine love to run, jump, explore. At nine years old, they still behave like puppies and we take multiple long walks each day. Their hair gets super long and they need to be brushed daily to keep out the mats. Also, it's best not to leave them alone as they will cry. If you spend a lot of time at home that would work, but don't ever get a dog of any kind that you leave alone for more than 8 hours a day. It's not good for them. Hope that helps.

    • @theadventuresofnugget63
      @theadventuresofnugget63  2 года назад +1

      It definitely depends. Most of the ones I've seen have some sort of vocals to them. But I have been told some are very quiet. Ours was the quiet one in his litter but is now quite vocal even after training. Unfortunately barking level is hard to determine no matter the breed as sometimes personality is bigger than breed tendencies.

    • @Jerilyn89
      @Jerilyn89 2 года назад

      Ours only barks when he is super excited to see someone. Otherwise he does a low, fairly quiet growl when he hears something suspicious outside. I tell him thank you for the letting me know and “check it out” and he usually stops.

      I have asthma and allergies and haven't had any issues with our Coton, as long as I bathe him often. If he picks up outdoor allergies it can affect me. But she is actually considering getting one herself now because she does not have any issues with my Coton.
