Who is in favor of Laura and her mom both reviewing beautiful gardens together?!
🙋🏻♀️!!
"So pretty!" 🤣🥰
Yes, this!
Aaron you did great too!
Pro tip: when playing the 'Laura and Mom Get Together Drinking Game': don't use 'pretty' as your drink word. Or 'cute'. Been there, done that.
Oh good idea!!
Takeaways…..
•Grasses….more grasses
•Containers on stones
•Add more seating
•structures add interest
•more curves
•fill in plants close to avoid weeds
•hydrangeas steal the show
•Multi-trunks and topiary evergreens bring magic
•pathways are inviting
•color groupings & different textures are so important
The grass patio with the checkered blocks is so beautiful! So much inspiration! Thank you Garden Answer and gardeners for this!!
(Missouri)
Yes to all Betsy! Borrowing your recap list
🌾You summed it up perfectly!! Thanks!! Borrowing that recap!!🌾
Interesting ! Borrowing also! Thank you! ☺️
Took a screenshot of your list, thanks 🥰. I’ll be using it as a reminder for this upcoming gardening season 👍
Well done! I would add --(1) water feature (flowing water is great, but if you can't, a bird bath to draw nature in); (2) break up the grass with lots of interest such as mulch paths, stone walkways, or pea stone to draw you into the garden; (3) be unique and make it your own individual space that tells your story; (4) have fun!! 😃😃
My goodness - that final garden was out of this world!!! Well done to the owners. And thanks to everyone for sharing their pictures and to Laura and Aaron for putting it all together.
I would love a tour of that one..stunner and we'll loved!
Right, blown away by that last one! Garden goals right there!
Absolutely love these videos your doing!!!!
REQUEST: Could you put a call out to city dwellers with smaller lots to send in their photos? Lots of us don't have big yards. These are beautiful for sure and I have gotten alot of ideas from them, but with a smaller lot, I'd like to get some inspiration from them too. Chicago lots are usually 25 ft wide and then the usable backyard is about 55ft long. Most of our garages take up alot of the backyards. We have a single car garage, so we have more space to plant and we know we are lucky! I know there are some gorgeous yards here as I have seen some, but I still would like to see what others are doing. Thanks for reading! Love your channel. It's my wake up to each day!
Yes agree
Prefer seeing the entire garden on the screen….vs a split screen with you and the garden.
Aaron you are 💯 right! Canada has it going on with gardens. The difference between one zone to the next along with the creativity is remarkable!
I’d love to see you pick a country and have those people submit pictures of their gardens. Gardening around the world 👍👍👍.
That's a great idea! 👍
@@nickles4652 or garden by hardiness zones
No England, their weather is so mild it’s perfect for growing the plant variety is so good
Laura Rose - except for west coast. Uk is a 6-9 and I live in an almost zone 10 in Canada on a mountainside.
Nice seeing Aaron partake in such videos! 😄 I feel like he can also take in some a amazing inspiration that he would definitely apply to your garden! Thakns everyone for sharing your beautiful spaces! SPRING CAN COME!! 😍😍
Pssst: don't tell Aaron one of the most beloved parts of my yard is my tree face.
@Betty J Rogers I have one too and I love mine! 😁
I can't believe how much he's learned over the six or so years I've been watching!
@@nspector He really has especially since he didn't grow up doing this like Laura did.
@@888-m2m Yes, exactly
I liked the way you edited this video! The way the cameos of Laura and Aaron popped in periodically was great!
Hi I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind friendship please were are you from?
I especially loved seeing the last garden of the couple in their 70's, probably the most beautiful of all you showed today. My husband and I are 70/71 and after decades of gardening we have hit our stride, we enjoy it more now than ever. I can hardly wait for spring!!
The tree face "is not the same thing!" 😆😆
So enjoyed all these beautiful gardens.
I love that tree face! I like a little whimsy..
Almost spit out my coffee laughing at Aaron's reaction!
Aaron’s disdain for that face is hilarious!
I lol’ed
That was so funny! I think the tree face is cute. Now if most of their trees had faces it would lose its cuteness in my opinion.
Aaron, you definitely said Louisville KY right 🤣 it's one of those words where if it's said any other way, you know that person isn't from KY. Love starting my days with you guys, especially during these winter months when I'm missing my garden. Happy late birthday to the sweet babies!!!
Lu-uh-vul
Michigan IS where it's at!!!!! But our struggles include Japanese Beetles, Powdery mildew, humidity, heat and drought. All on the same day lol
Hi 👋I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind friendship please were are you from?
yes, bring your mother along, she is so cool.
Our struggles in Michigan: too much moisture at times (or drought, you never know), unpredictable cold snaps, crazy insect and slug pressure, deer and bunnies eating everything (hostas are not an option for me, sadly). They also eat the bark off trees in the winter so we have to wrap up trunks.
Also clay soil and high PH, since we have a lot of limestone here.
But we don't have to irrigate!! 🙌 So I'll take it!
sounds like Maine..
You forgot the bucks use young trees as buck rubs so you need to protect them as well as put high fences around your gardens to protect from deer. Let's not forget about raccoons too. They love to decimate my sweet corn and other crops so I've had to put electric fencing down low around my garden fence to keep them out. I wouldn't trade Michigan gardening for anything though, I love our state and all it has to offer.
@@griffinendres8378 fortunately I've never had an issue with raccoons in my garden but they have taken out a few of my chickens and busted up some of my nice birdfeeders 🤬
But I agree! Michigan is still wonderful!! The beautiful nature here is unmatched! ❤
@@griffinendres8378 ... We also have those issues here in central Ohio and I can also include Chipmunks.... !!!
Aaron's pronunciation of Louisville was spot on.
Michigan struggles, just to name a few, deer, rabbits and squirrels. I would never change where I live! Beautiful evergreens, hard wood trees. To say nothing of awesome sunrises and sunsets over our Great Lakes.
Great video and yes, I pause this video frequently and take a pic with my phone so I can remember a detail I want to imitate !🥰😀
Hi 👋I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind friendship please were are you from?
Yaaaaay! The face stays 🤗 A little whimsy in the garden and a little formality along with the cottage looks... something that draws you in and surprises you around the corner.
So many things! For me, my eyes were drawn to the bird bath in New Jersey. That beautiful stained glass affect was stunning. The two rocks stacked for a place to put the pot of flowers were brilliant. The garden that two people in their 70's created and maintained. My eye went to a lamp post tucked in. I guess what I'm saying is it's really nice yo let the eye drop on things other than flowers. It's just something to break up a view. Places to let art shine through. These were wonderful pictures to grace our lives today ❤️
Thank you to all the gardeners who submitted photos and provided so much inspiration! 🌿💚🌿
Aaron's comment about the dreadful gardens was hilarious! We need him to do a special "Garden Roast" episode. You can get special submissions for it so that no one is offended. I'd definitely have some photos to submit. 😆😆
Oh wow thank you what a great video. Our garden was the one starting at 11:39 I couldn’t be more pleased with what you said about our little space but we try our hardest. The comment about the window box has made my day, I always try to make the most of the area and try to make a statement with this little space that we have!!! ❤️
Thank you so much to the gardener who shared the caladium/begonia/asparagus fern window box. I’ve been looking for a gorgeous combination for my window boxes for years and this is it! Bravo! 17:34
🌾Same here. Can't wait to try that combination!!🌾
I do that every year because those grow best here in my conditions. I was thinking I wasn't creative enough!
Me too!
I’m glad you like it! It has literally been my favorite window box combination I’ve ever made!
@@alyssasoto3299 Love it! 👏
I like the tree face. It does make one smile.
We would absolutely love to have you come to Canada 🇨🇦! 🙂
Aaron is impressing us with his flower knowledge. However, he has had a great teacher! 😉😂
I wish Aaron had been part of the first video too. It would have been nice to hear his comments as well. I like the exchange between him and Laura. Beautiful job from these gardeners!
All so beautiful ❤ but Michiganders 🙌🏻🙌🏼👏🏾👏🏿
Hi 👋I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind friendship please were are you from?
Michigan,Maine etc have gorgeous gardens, such a short season means everything blooms at once. So beautiful! I garden near Atlanta, 7b, and it’s hard to get an abundant look. But I couldn’t handle the bleak months. We each have our challenges! Love these inspiration gardens!
The same in North Dakota . . . short season but sometimes we get a long fall.
what are some plants that you use en masse?
& NJ such rich soil
Yes 🙌 I look with envy at those zones gardens , but with there long winters I guess they deserve at least a bountiful summer 😅. Zone 6 central Mo which jumps all over the place weather wise !
Totally, I also garden in 7b west of Atlanta and our season is long and we have weeds galore and bugs galore!! Mosquitos that will carry you off lol! Oh and black spot too! It is hard to get that “everything blooming at once look here” you are right. I opt to just plant in large drifts to have blooms in mass even if they are all the same kind. Yep, everywhere sure has its pluses and minuses!🌸😊
Coleus is a shade plant 😊 that’s why the sun is fading them. 😊😊
I love the idea about bringing your mom into a garden view.
Hi I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind friendship please were are you from?
Winter eye candy! I love it!
Hi I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind friendship please were are you from?
Such lovely gardens. Thank you and thank everyone for sharing your gardens with us.
LOVE having Aaron in this video!
Hi 👋I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind friendship please were are you from?
Laura and Aaron, thank you for featuring my garden on GA. Thanks to all contributors for sharing their beautiful, inspiring gardens. And yes - Laura, you pronounced "Verbena bonariensis" correctly 🙂
I really enjoy these. Such inspiration! Thank you so much for putting these together. And Yay! for Aaron joining in.
I enjoyed Aaron's garden banter with Laura. I'd never heard him much before.
@@janereel1903 If you watch their recap videos on their "highlights" channel they do a lot of that. It's fun.
Hi Laura and Aaron! I really enjoyed Aaron's take on things, and hope he will continue being in these videos. Your Mom could join both of you. I like the tree face, too. Sorry Aaron! Thank you to all who sent in the beautiful pictures!
Aaron, leave the face alone! I have a cat's head one, my spouse thought it was stupid. Every time I see that head with the golden I smile. Our daughter gave it to me for a birthday. She passed in 2019 so now my husband has been moving it around, LOL! It is so amusing to just have it pop out at you. Right now it is outside my window. I see it every day. The tree it's on has died and been cut down, however, they left a very high 'seat' and I love it.
It's nice to see what a garden looks like that is designed, built and maintained by landscaping companies instead of the homeowners as is obvious in most of the videos shown. I bet the majority of Laura's viewers are NOT rich with endless pockets to spend on carving landscapes and hiring workers. Hopefully the next video will show more of the homeowners gardens that they built and maintain themselves.
I believe these gardens are all maintained by the owners themselves, or amateurs, not professionals. They're just good at it and love what they do. It also takes time, maybe years, to bring to maturity.
@@harrietweber2520 Sorry but I respectfully disagree as a gardener myself for over 40 years.
Oh my goodness, I love the Iris in the first photo 💚💚💚❄️💚🙃
🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎That's all I got to say about these gardens!.......Adding to my list ~ AGAIN!
Thank you for another terrific video!
Laura, you've mentioned about benches in earlier videos as well, and I wanted to share a little information. I once met a woodworker, who specialized in outdoor furniture, at Canada Blooms in Toronto , Ontario. He used white cedar, no doubt that's not unusual. He also used glue made for the boating industry, and paint used by airplane manufacturers. I believe his furniture really does withstand difficult climates.
Canadians lin general love Muskoka chairs, as we call them, (and with a footstool please!). I think you call it an Adirondack chair.
I could go on about antique metal fan chairs too, sometimes called French Sunburst because of the design. (I think your wonderful mother bought something like that on an antiquing outing.) Of course there are Victorian Rose Garden chairs of painted wrought iron. And the Peacock chairs also sometimes called fan chairs. I find these metal chairs are usually, surprisingly, comfortable.
Absolutely love everything you and your marvelous team accomplish. It's an honor to be able to learn from the fantastical adventures of Garden Answer!
Aaron’s comment on the tree face made me laugh out loud 😍😂❤️
I LOVE ❤️ LOVE the tree face...LONG LIVE THE TREE FACE
You probably have a million pics and it would take a million years to show all the gardens and narrate. It would be cool if you created a slide show type video of a bunch of the gardens that don't make it into these recaps. Could add captions just with the location? I know nothing about creating videos so I don't even know if this a viable suggestion 😄 I absolutely love these videos and I can only imagine the gorgeousness you guys are seeing. Every video leaves me wanting more Haha Such fantastic spaces everyone has - and so unique... no two gardens in this world are the same which is amazing to think about.
Hi 👋I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind friendship please were are you from?
I showed my husband the Garden shot of the 71 and 78 yer old and told him this is what I aspire too!
Laura, I think that you would love verbena bonariensis in your garden. I recall that you planted some PW varieties a while back and weren't happy with the performance. Plain old verbena bonariensis makes the cut for me every year. I get my seed from Johnny's and they are super easy to grow and tough as nails. Three inch seedlings shoot up to 3-4ft in no time, they sway in the wind and never break...only plants that stood tall during a tornado a few years ago. Never without butterflies and humming birds and I don't water them..they just get on with it. Great plant.
I have them too. They’re magical the way they float above everything else with that amazing colour. I cut the tops off when they hit 8” and holy moly the branching!
I planted these last year and everyone loved them! Put them in the back, they grow tall!
My favorite flowering plant, I think. Planted a few years ago in containers and now self seeds here and there, but not problematically. Do well on containers or the ground, watered or ignored. They do not shade out anything and are so whimsical. Definitely get some, Laura!
The year of the bench!! Love it!!! Good job Laura and Aaron. I LOVED this. Thank you to everyone who contributed their garden pictures. Hugs from N.C..❤️
Can’t get enough of these garden submissions - it seems each one is more spectacular!! 😍🤩 They are all my favorites, but I must say, as someone who’s recently retired I’ve found great inspiration by the couple in their 70’s with their amazing gardens. At 67 I see there’s still so much to look forward to.
Thanks everyone for sharing! Here’s to 2023: The Year of the Bench!
Erin sounds, like he’s feeling bad, a bit tired. I love this series your doing. I hope one day I’ll get a photo in, for you to see.
The tree face and Aaron’s reaction made me laugh out loud. Love you too!
You are the most super 'Positive' person EVER!
What beautiful landscapes!! After seeing this, my garden is so sad and pitiful 😔😔. Can't wait for spring to do a make over! LOL
I have too much shade in my forested backyard that I have had to buy faux flowers, so you’re not alone. I feel so bad for faking out the hummingbirds. Faux has come a long way though.
Maybe you are being too nice to your Lupins. They are ditch flowers here in Nova Scotia Canada with nobody caring for them, no fertilizing or help in any way. Stick them out on your new property along the back near that irrigation ditch and see what happens!
Yes, I second this. I’m in Ontario, Canada and I have them along my driveway and some around my shed and I just never touch them and they’re beautiful!
Ditch flowers?! I love Lupins, they don't grow in my state 😥
Yes, in Nova Scotia they grow wild and you see walls of them along the highway. They're breathtaking.
They grow wild all over New Hampshire as well.
@@deniseb2571 they just go wild in the ditch here in Nova Scotia. Hence ditch flowers!! LOL
Year of the bench! What about having a zoom call with the people who’s gardens you are featuring so they can answer the questions you pose? I’d love to hear. But would probably last hours.
I can't imagine you leaving your beautiful home and family but, if you ever do, come to Michigan! Advantages are, (depending where you are, we rarely get severe weather. Most areas are either zone 6 or 5. We get rainfall. Some humidity in summer, but not so much especially if you are more up north. We are surrounded by beautiful lakes and forests. Winters in general, on the east side of the state are fairly mild. I moved from southeast MI, zone 6 which was very fertile, to up north on the east side of the state by Lake Huron, 3 years ago. Started from scratch. My biggest garden challenges are dealing with sand and deer and the forest backdrop. Most of my backyard is septic so my space is limited. But I'm working on making the most with the space I have and learning to deal with deer and rabbits. Those gardens you featured today are so gorgeous.
Don't ever get rid of "the face " on the juniper 😁😁😁🌲 it makes me smile every time you show it. 👏👏😁😁😁
Ya Aaron...Laura gave up the big circle of boxwoods, so she gets to keep the tree face...LOL!! Loved this video...such lovely gardens!
🥰 That checkerboard lawn, and the surrounding area was gorgeous!
Hi I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind friendship please were are you from?
Love having Aaron's opinion and thoughts in this video. And the bubbles when he spoke was a nice touch!
a pergola would look lovely in the south garden
Yes! I could watch these all day. More please and thank you.
I enjoy hearing Aaron's addition!
Oh my goodness! This whole video, I was screenshoting, screenshoting, screenshoting!!!
Keep the face!!!! It's so sweet and whimsical.
Aaron is so right, seeing these may be what someone needs to move forward on a garden idea or say nope!😊
Michigan has it going on with the gardens!👏🏻
I like the tree face! It makes me chuckle 😃
Good morning all have a safe and blessed day 🥰
Yes, mom too, but I do like Aaron’s enthusiasm in these too!!
If only folks' demeanor matched all the beauty, that's displayed on this channel. So much inspiration ✨️ I can't wait until springtime🌞
The calladium/ begonia pairing was stunning
🌾Aaron, that grass at 7:03 looks like Mondo grass. You should add it to your garden. Thanks for joining Laura on this video. You have come a long ways remembering and recognizing the types of plants and at times your comments add some humor to the presentation. Kudos to you!! I love Laura's enthusiasm whenever some picture captures her imagination.
I believe a Pergola would look nice on the flower garden, where you once set up a table and chairs. Somewhere within that vast space to break the monotony of a flat area. I agree with adding sitting areas with all kind of design benches. Good job to Ken on his editing!! 🌾
Hi I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind friendship please were are you from?
That last garden was incredible. 😍
Excellent pronunciation of Louisville, Aaron🤩👍
I think you should do a kids' garden back there. With lots of fun things for them to climb on with maybe sand box, etc...
It was fun to have Aaron participate and hear his opinions too!
Oh my!!! Those window boxes and pergolas! 💗💗💗
Oh my gosh I have lived in my house for almost 20 years and all I have to for it is repeatedly dead plants and weeds.
I get inspired every spring but just so many trees/roots, not enough soil & shade shade shade which changes so drastically with the seasons had a little better luck with local grown native plants. Waiting to seeing they come back after winter.
Really the Michigan “resort” with the swimming pond! What a dream
Hi 👋I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind friendship please were are you from?
On the checkerboard that would be a great thing for the kids
Aaron is so darn cute!
Lucky girl!
Aaron pronounced Louisville correctly. 🎉! So many beautiful gardens. Thank you to everyone for sharing.
Yes! Your kids would love growing up in the fabulous Great Lakes State of MI!
The most perfect video to watch with a cup of coffee at 6 am in the morning. A cheerful start to the day.
Michigander here.....humidity all year, so lots of disease, mildew, short short growing season, vermin galore, you have a nice area and are lucky!
I love your tree face. It’s whimsical. Fun. Keep it
Will you be attending the Philadelphia Flower Show this year? This will be my first year going, and I can't wait to see all things flowers! 🌼🪻
Wow that last garden! Geesh! I’m definitely adding more grasses to my garden!
I LOVE the tree face, Aaron!!!!
That first one in Canada was so magical, they were all beautiful how fun. Thanks for taking us around the world. Spring is around the corner. We’ve had days in the 80’s here in zone 8a
Love these videos. That garden by the 78 and 71 year olds is awesome. Thank you!
No one‘s shed is actually that neat & well organized before taking the picture… There- I said it!
Thank you for doing these videos. It’s unbelievable how beautiful these gardens are!!!
Laura and Aaron, I love it when you are both in these videos. Aaron's comment about this being "The year of the bench, I love it! Ken, I hope you're paying attention, they also like pergolas. (I was secretly hoping Ken would insert a funny clip into this video.) Ken must be GA's film editor and wood craftsman extraordinaire! I can't wait to see the wonderful bench design/designs Ken comes up with. I hope everyone can enjoy the weekend! ~Margie🤗
