Looks like a tidy unit, you will have fun playing with it. A cost effective block upgrade is to go for ceramics, (hopefully you can find the right size). Next upgrade will be a 16" monster so you can do some very serious resawing😁
I picked up the DeWalt version recently. Paid £85! A little fettling, new Tuffsaws blade and it's a beast! Really hard to argue with given what you get for the money. You'll pay closer to £1000 for 150mm depth on a new saw. I feel the flimsy table is the big weakness with this machine, but given the price it's something I can live with for now. I will be using it mostly to cut blanks for my lathe, but I have a pile of salvaged deck boards to resaw first as that'll be the cladding for the little workshop shed I've built.
I really enjoy mine still, I know what you mean about the table, I have thought about making a plywood table and fence at the expense of 18mm of cutting height. Or I’ll figure out a new fence system, one or the other lol
Ive got a 20+ year old Ryobi that weighs more than me . Purchased from a retiring builder for £80 plus he delivered FOC . It has a very solid base , mitre and perfect fence . Its my favourite tool . The blade is too wide for curves . Thats my next upgrade .
I have the same elu bandsaw. It’s a fine little workhorse. Mine is variable speed. Go with the blue tyres when you change them it does make a difference. Don’t lose the key you can’t get them anymore and buy a new tension bolt assembly as mine stripped it’s threads🙈. Don’t hurt to have around spare. I don’t use mine much now but you have made me think about getting it back out😂
I’m definitely going to look into getting some new tyres when I have the cash so I’ll see who sells what. I gave mine a full breakdown and setup and treated it to a new blade from Tuffsaws yesterday. Working like a dream again now
A good upgrade for your tyres is to fit silicone replacements, they are available by post just check on line. You may find that you have to remove the motor pulley and turn it round as it looked on the video as if there is only one pulley on the blade wheel so to keep the belts in line reverse the motor pulley.
I have no experience with modern Elu machinery but 35 years ago their stuff was first class. The larger pulley will make the blade speed faster and if the rubber on the drive wheel is perished it can be replaced with the inner tube from a pushbike, I've seen it done and it works very well.
I've just been given a DeWalt BS 1310, the blade drift on it is shocking but it's fantastic at cutting tight curves. Still a lot to learn. I'm a total band saw noob. How to adjust the blade guide blocks? No idea. ???? Anyway I remember you from your vape vids, I gave up vaping 6 months back, nice to see you still on RUclips. 👍
Very nice upgrade. I have the DeWalt version with the Axminster Small Bandsaw fence upgrade. it hasn't missed a beat in 20 years, but could do with a tyre change now. The ELU MOF 96 and MOF188 routers are worth looking out for, in good condition too, Dewalt and Trend both make versions of them. Elu are premium quality tools. You shouldn't really be using spray to lube the bearings though. It will thin out and flush out the grease and can cause them to overheat and cease up. Replacing the bearings or repacking with fresh grease would be better. Plenty of RUclips videos on how to do it. Have fun with the bandsaw. They really are a bit of a beast.
Hi Dean, could you tell me what made that cabinet maker point out the ELU bandsaw? I have looked into them after seeing your video but can't find any good info or reviews.
A lot of the old ELU products were really well made and known to be solid workhorses. I believe Dewalt bought them and copied a lot of the products with some cheaper parts. Especially the Elu stuff from Switzerland is generally thought to be awesome stuff. I’ve got one of their half inch routers to sort out at some point, that was a model that was copied a lot, the MOF177 I think it is, beast of a machine
I think Elu were bought out by Dewalt a number of years ago. They then just re branded all Elu units. Elu made great stuff though , that’s a good buy Deano👍🏻
Is that a 10 inch saw? I bought a 10 inch Rikon last summer and love it. Like yours, it has a 6 inch clearance. My workshop isn't big enough for a monster 14 inch saw.
Great for what it was. I don’t believe in the ‘but once cry once’ mentality. I much prefer to have a cheap tool, figure out if I use it enough to warrant an upgrade, but also understand the restrictions the cheap version has for what I want to achieve.
@@WoodworkJourney Yep I hear thta my friend. I own some Titan products as I've said and the Planer/TYhicknesser is really good for what it cost. Obviously u have to look after the machine and baldes but oce ur over the hump with it the machine can work perfectly fine for what it is. It was u I believe who put me onto ths Planer mate. I appreciate ur honesty in these videos too btw. Keep up the great work too man. Always a good watch bro. Keep safe and may ur health be geat for u as well
Hello! I just finished watching your Elu Bandsaw introduction. I have the Elu 3501/3, which I am learning to use. If you have made more videos or tutorials about it I'll be happy to watch and comment. I suscribed now , will be visiting you back. Lito G.

😂😂 I’m not so sure about that 😂 I’m not sure there is a cost effective block upgrade for these. I’ve seen a chap who has machined his own, but don’t think it’s an off the shelf part
Other way round with the pulleys, the bigger one will drive it faster (surely)?
You might have a point there
Nope, you were right mate. A smaller diameter wheel will spin at a higher rpm 👍
@@Gnasherism Not when it's the wheel being driven
@@nialstewart8263 ohhh yeah. For some reason didn’t assume it was directly driven off the motor 🙃
I will keep a look out for one of these bandsaws. Looks a good buy

Luckily I changed the pulley shortly after the video, and I didn’t have to turn it around. Love the machine though

Yes, I realised the pulley thing after someone commented yesterday, so I changed it today and funnily enough it’s a lot faster lol!
How’s the ELU working out for you? I’m looking for one as my first bandsaw and reckon this will be a good starter without blowing the bank balance.
I really like it. Managed to get a spare part pretty easily recently and it’s doing a grand job

Awesome video how big is the bed on the Elu I’m from lowestoft
Honestly not sure, but I think I’m going to make a secondary bed and fence for it
