Thank you for doing this. I have a 16-35 GMI and I got it used for about $800 but still I have been feeling the temptation to get the V2. However; after your recommendation and your test results, I think I'll skip the version 2 and instead grow my lens collection more. This video was so well done and useful, it's greatly appreciated.
How about a test at 35mm? Reviewers everywhere are saying it is much sharper with the version 2. I'm sure people would like to know the result whole results and not just the half (16mm focal) only.
You could use it as a more direct/hands-on control for photography as well (e.g. in Shutter Priority, Auto modes), though it's usually more useful for video shooters.
I am selling my 20 mm F1.8 G lens to replace with Sony 16-35 MM F72.8 GM version 1.My reason for changing is i found 20 mm F1.8 not good enough image quality and fixed focal length. You have both lenses so what do it get when I get 16-35 MM GM1?Do i take sharper photos instead? My camera is A7 iii.
Both lenses are great, no issues with sharpness with either of them, though I'd say the 20mm is sharper. Just depends on if I need the flexibility of a zoom, or prefer the smaller/compact size of the 20mm. Not sure if maybe you had a bad copy of the 20?
This man doesn't blink. His eyes are Wide angle zoom lenses. He is the G master.
It's all in the edit... 😂
He is the gee master
He’s most likely using Descripts Eye Contact software which allows you to read from a script without taking your gaze off the cameras lens.

No problem! That's a great deal on the GM I, glad to hear that this was helpful to you.
Hey!
Can I know where you bought a used 1635 GMI for $800?
I wanna get one too!
Thank you!
collect ideas composition etc. and not lenses
The other G master are worth upgrading but this one you made a good call
You're positively glowing in this video! Good stuff. I'd love to get the V2!
Thanks Phillip! It must be the lighting. 😉The GM II definitely has some nice upgrades over the I.

Check around 3:55 and beyond - I have a bunch of tests with the lens at 35mm.
Is there a benefit for having an aperture control ring besides shooting video?

Thanks! Would love to use GM II
No problem! They're both great lenses, the GM II especially so.

also 20mm if i remember right is superb for video, where oversharpness is not needed.
Thankful 😊😊
No problem!
Appreciate this. Thank you!
