Well right now I own both lenses. Got the FE 16-35/2.8 GM II when it first came out since my son borrowed my GM version 1 for his A7SIII and he now lives on an opposite coast so it wasn’t coming back soon. I use it on my A1 and A7RV. Then when I picked up an A7CR and A7CiI I first added a 25-50/2.8 G and then FE 16-25/2.8 G, bought used for the light travel kit I put together. Bought it used from a source I bought my original A7C. So I’m keeping them both. Also still have a Sigma 16-28/2.8 DG DN Contemporary i bought for the A7C but looking to sell that like I did my Sigma 28-70/2.8. Thank you and take care.
Both great lenses. But for me the 10mm more is key for me. That's why I don't need a standard range zoom for landscape + street stuff. I take the 16-35 f2.8 II and the 70-200 f4 macro and have everything I need. Excellent iq/af and also still a quite compact combo.
Dan, cool comparison! I don't own both of this lenses but I do own the 50-24 2.8 G. If possible, It would be awesome to have a comparison between 50mm 1.4, 24 2.8 and the 50-24 2.8! Thanks for your awesome content!
I've been eyeing the 16-25 for my wide angle. I just jumped into the sony world with an a7iv and got the 20-70 and now looking to fill the telephto and wide angle options. My biggest question is how well it performs with coma for astrophotography as I would be using it for landscape and would love for it to double up as an astro lens.
Ive found that the 16-25 acts more like a 14-24, strange but I’ll take it haha. Much smaller and usable than that sigma 14-24. That being said, I do miss the reach of the 16-35gm at times.
Wanted something smaller and lighter for the a7cII and ZVe1 so I went 16-25, which was a tough decision over the 16-35pz since I like the 35mm end as well. But I hate power zoom lenses. I mostly use it on the a7cII and have crop mode and CIZ to get back the extra reach. Haven’t missed the 25-35 range at all.
Awesome! This is where having options makes a massive difference. People ask me why I care that Sony has 50+ lenses when they only want 3 and the reason is this...options!
@ exactly. Though with all the 3rd party lenses it’s almost overwhelming when trying to decide on the best fit -especially with zooms since they all involve compromises whether it’s cost, size, weight, range, aperture and so on. I’ve been eyeing the 20-70/4 to replace my sigma 24-70, but the aperture gives me pause LOL! Cheers. 🍻
Nice video! I just picked up the 16-25 last week. What are you using for your POV? The quality looks good
Awesome! It's actually an action camera...this one: ruclips.net/video/8GVGCnuk_vs/видео.html
@ Oh sweet, I was combing through your videos to see if you did a review on a pov camera but must of missed this. Thanks

Appreciate that! Would be interesting to compare a prime and a zoom like that
Appreciate the review and looking forward to the Sigma comparison. I love the look of your talking head shots, which lens are you using?
Thanks! I'm actually an older/cheaper Sony lens but I still love it: bhpho.to/3L36jzJ

Nice! I haven't tested that but I know a few people who do shoot astro and I haven't heard of any complaints
Dan your videos are very informative and helpful. Thanks
Thanks so much!

I sold my 16-25 within few weeks. Lightweight but you will miss the extra reach. I would get 16-35 gm or pz for video
Didn’t even know this lens came out and I’m usually on top of E mount releases
haha
"Sony 16-35 F2.8 vs 16-25 F2.8 | DOUBLE the Price for WHAT?" - TITLE SHOULD BE "Sony 16-35 F2.8 GM2 vs 16-25 F2.8 G | DOUBLE the Price for WHAT?"
good call
double price... one part is for the Sony CEO...
