  • In this video I am installing a Holley Sniper 2 fuel injection conversion on my 1980 Chevrolet Camaro with a Blueprint 383 stroker engine that I recently installed. With the original Holley 750 carburetor, cold starts were troublesome and the car would not idle well cold. After installing this new Holley Sniper 2 kit, those poor cold starts are a thing of the past. It always fires right up. I also used the retrofit in tank fuel pump and fuel sending unit from Holley which allowed me to use a return-less fuel system on the Camaro. This makes for a much more reliable, factory style installation, versus using an external fuel pump. All of the parts I used on my 2nd gen Camaro are listed below.

Like @safesound4u, I had the OG sniper on my '69 Camaro. I upgraded to the Sniper 2 over the winter. I didn't have any major issues with the first gen sniper other than the secondaries hanging open which was the most common issue with them. The Sniper 2 seems to have fixed all the shortcomings of the OG sniper. The quality is much better and I've had zero issues after a couple thousand miles. I would recommend having your sniper professionally tuned. It really does make a difference in performance compared to the self learn method. Very good video. My very first car was an '80 Camaro and it's always nice going down memory lane.

That's how holley gets you "self tuning" absolute bullshit! After spending thousands now you have to spend another $500-$1000 to get it professionally tuned!

Nice job. My suggestion for you, and trust me I've dealt with it all. I started with the pos sniper 1 (for 4 miserable years) and just switched this year to the sniper 2. I have literally the same fuel setup and you're gonna want to do 2 things. 1: put a fuel pressure gauge inline near your tb. 2: put a Radium fuel pulse dampener at the same spot. The Radium has a spot for a fuel pressure gauge. It just goes inline with a barbed end and 2 hp fuel line hose clamps. You can't see it but if you had a gauge on it, the needle would be bouncing uncontrollably. Holley told me that when you use the "deadhead" returnless system and mostly solid factory fuel line (which I did the same thing) the pulses from the injectors affect the fuel flow. Before I put the Radium piece on you could not tell the fuel pressure. It varied from 30 lbs to 80 lbs! After I put the Radium piece on it, it is dead on at 60lbs. Mine is a 400-500 hp '71 Chevelle SS454. I'm pretty happy so far with the Sniper 2. Doesn't seem to have the million issues that the sniper 1 had. Best of luck with yours. www.summitracing.com/parts/RDM-20-0199-01 and 14-0694 Barbed fittings for 3'8" fuel line Radium's website www.radiumauto.com/Fuel-Pulse-Damper-Inline-Kits-P751.aspx Btw I also did the Hyperspark distributor DON'T BOTHER Stick with your hei!

They are nice and they make an engine run great but I don’t want to deal with the headaches that can and usually do come with the aftermarket EFI systems. Like you said I hear the sniper 2 is a pretty good unit but after I dealt with a FAST EFI setup years ago I don’t feel like dealing with all that trouble again and wondering if and when it’s gonna just decide to stop working when I’m out and about.

@@yamahaguy1732 I completely agree with you. I'll give you an example, I had mentioned in my comment that for the most part the 2 was better, but I was out a couple of days ago after about an hour or two I was heading home and I was coming to a red light and as I slowed to a stop out of nowhere the fuckin thing just STALLED! No reason! No warning! All the parameters were good (on the handheld) WTF!! It did start back up, but this wasn't the first time. I've had the car for 20 years and when I had a carburetor on it for most of that time "Quick fuel SS750" I don't ever remember it ever stalling while I was driving. I originally installed the sniper because I knew I was going to retire soon and I was trying to make the car more reliable! WRONG!! Truly wish I had never spent the thousands and thousands of $ (and I did all the labor, that's just parts) converting it to fuel injection and wish I had just left the carburetor on!

@@safesound4u yeah I hear ya that’s like mine was. It would be great then out of the blue you are stranded with NOTHING to do. With a carburetor you don’t have those problems. The EFI systems are great until they aren’t then they are the biggest pain you could ever imagine.

You might want to think about upgrading that intake manifold next, the dual plane design is great for carburated use, but when using an throttle body style EFI, it needs a single plane intake to operate more properly, you will see the same style intake even with multiport EFI system. Most people could get by using a 1" open spacer between the throttle body and intake, but im sure you will run into a hood clearence issue after installing the air cleaner, so the intake change will be your best bet.

Interesting. It runs great as is so far. Do you mind elaborating on why it is beneficial to change to a single plane manifold? Appreciate the comment.

How do you like Sniper 2 and Smeding 383? Is it still working well? Im looking at same set up on my 85 stepside. Also did you run return line on fuel system or dead head into Sniper EFI? Very nice truck! Congrats!

Deadhead into the EFI. This is the way it was recommended since I am using the in tank pump and regulator. It works excellent. This combo is really good. A whole ton of low end torque like I've never seen. Very fun car
