    Oh my my what a beautiful way to go into & down Memory Lane - with the background music you close your eyes & imagine being in this place of awe & wonder, how the people lived, obviously liked their existence in such a place. I understand for most of these ancient peoples there was no choice but oh my how well this place sheltered the Peoples of that time in History. Again what a memory & what a place, thank you for sharing - love History of this ILK.

It is something that for all the living and burials there were over the millennia virtually not a trace remains except what was carved out of the rock.

    The underground towns/cities and cave systems were created between the late 7th-9th centuries when Roman Syria was lost, and Arab raids into Anatolia made the Cappadocia region and the Taurus mountains a no-man's-land. The area was again under Roman control in the 10th century, and fell to the Turks in the 11th/12th centuries.

    The greeks lived there for centuries and no issues with erosion. The Turks moved there and in decades the habitations eroded. The Turks often change the names once they take over but Cappadocia is pre Turkish. I lived in Istanbul/Constantinople 2006. Sadly I didn't make it to Cappadocia but I did see Troy. Cappadocia is pre Turkish as the video states.

    You have to take into consideration that there was the Armenian Genocide starting in 1915 which had populations that constituted the Assyrian genocide and Greek genocide. If you look up the numbers it states 1.5 million at least succumb to the Turkish genocide and those populations were Christian. That would account for much of this history.

    Cappadocia or Petra?? If you had a chance to go to only one which would it be! I know they're similar but the long narrow passageway to get to Petra just seems so magical. And the fact that Petra was a secret for thousands of years makes it so special and mysterious. I haven't been to neither.

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  4 года назад +1

      That's a tough one Dave. They're two of my favorite places. I would say the big difference is there's a lot more to explore in Cappadocia. Petra is good to visit for 2-3 days. You could spend weeks in Cappadocia. You might just want to flip a coin, or else check flights and see which one is cheaper to get to, because you can't go wrong with either one.

    The insides of these caves look like they were fashioned out of some kind of poured cement like material, not chipped out of hard stone. Notice how there is no veining in the stone, it is very uniform? Plus, if they dug miles of these caves out of hard stone there would be massive piles of the debris that was removed. Where is all the debris? It's an amazing feat no matter how they did it but it appears to be made out of some primitive type of concrete.
