    I have heard a lot about GR for so long but didn't go for it bc I had a dslr and a smartphone. Finally, I took a plunge and got myself GR IIIx less than a month ago. Still learning, but the results I got were fantastic. The sheer quality of photos is excellent, which makes me go out and shoot more.

    The snap distance priority mode is pretty nifty, if you start playing with it. The „need“ or more precisely benefit is, that we now have a mode that one can activate with a single button to swiftly switch to, where you can change snap distance and DOF on the fly. It is awesome to use.

    Thanks for the video, always entertaining. I had the GR3 (28mm) and liked it a lot but stopped reaching for it when I purchased my x100v. I prefer the shooting experience of the x100v and the weather sealing and solid build quality. With the GR3, I was always worried I’d get dust on the sensor and the buttons and dials felt flimsy.

    Kudos for you for using a flash. I tried it as well but lack of one functionality makes me mad. There is no exposure preview on/off option. If you set your exposure -2EV you see nothing on the screen.
    I picked my GR3 when GR3x hits the market. I couldn't decide which one to choose but now I'm glad that I picket 28mm version.
    Nice review. It was pleasure to watch. Take care ✌️

    • @karledwards
      @karledwards  2 года назад +2

      Thanks Adrian!
      I think there's a little hack for turning off the exposure preview with the GR series when shooting flash. If you're in manual mode, turn off Auto EV in the menu then set ISO to AUTO with the upper and and lower limit to 1600 (or whatever ISO you want to shoot at).
      You should be able to see the LCD image with the iso warning (because it can't get proper exposure). Your flash exposure should still work as expected.
      Bit of a pain but you should be able to save this as one of the custom profiles for easy access when needed!

      Hi Ali, thanks for the comment!
      I use the Yongnuo YN560IV flash along with the 603 trigger. The Yongnuo has a built in receiver in the flash so you only need to carry the flash and on trigger with you. Plus it's super cheap so I don't worry about breaking it. :)
      Been using the same unit for close to 5 years now... So it seems pretty durable especially considering the price!
      I also soften the flash a bit with a Lumiquest Mini Softbox attachement. I added velcro to the flash head so it's pretty stable when attached but also easy to take off and store.
      Hope that helps!!

    I’m confused.
    I want a Fuji X100v. Try getting your hands on one. It is as close as I’m going to get a Leica Q2. The Q2 as well as the Sony RX1MII are too expensive for me. Then there is the GR.
    I don’t like the 28mm field of view of the GRiii and the Leica Q2. Of course you can digitally zoom in to the 35mm focal length and still have ~ 19mp. Or,of course zoom with your feet. I feel too uncomfortable getting too close with the 28mm to my subjects. The iiiX, as you said, is the Goldilocks for me. The other thing I don’t like about the GR is the lack of an EVF. This is old hat. Either I can adapt to the LCD only or not.
    Serendipity came my way. Was on Craigslist and purchased a GRii for $190. Too cheap to pass up. I will play with it and see if I can live with it. If not I can sell it and at least get my money back. The GRiiiX may be the only GR body I may enjoy.

    • @karledwards
      @karledwards  Год назад

      I’ve actually moved back to film and I’m shooting with a Leica MP these days…
      I can say I never had any issues with sdust on either the GR3 or the GR3X. It’s a fixed lens camera with a retractable lens so the very design makes it prone to dust on the sensor but they added a new vibration system that seems to do the trick in getting rid of any dust that might find it’s way in there.
      Re: Fuji… I honestly think it’s too late to invest in an X100F at this point. The next gen of X100 is likely right around the corner. I’d stick it out with a retailer and wait for stock if I was set on that style of camera…

      The GR IIIx (and the GR III) both get a bit warm when using them. I normally keep the camera powered down and switch it on as I'm bringing it up to take a shot so this helped a bit. But I could definitely feel the warmth after a couple hours of shooting.
