Most important: stay true to the original design. Don’t listen to people, who want more buttons, more place etc. Only a flash could come back. Better AF, higher quality controls, no more wobbly wheels.

I had a GR3 and loved it for its size and image quality. But the lack of reliability (toggle wheel, blackouts et al) and sensor dust issue made me finally part with it. Still waiting for a simple, small and high quality camera. Bluetooth connected EVF is a cool idea, but the tech and battery required might make it too large.

Secondly, finally i understand why people complain about dust and lens issues because i have been struggling with repair services in the us with my ricoh gr iii. It´s been like two months and they have not been able to fix the camera. In the meantime i just hope the new ricoh gr iv to be more reliable when thinking about construction and of course after sales repair services.

Samuel, on your suggestion on 700 € price tag for GR EVF - what are you smoking? Just to put the EVF in proportions to camera price, in 2015 I paid for my brand new GRII 600 €... Even compared to current GRIII price of 1200 € -> the EVF is ca. 60% of the camera + lens price, way too much. The Leica Visoflex OVF price is actually a very reasonable fraction compared to Leica M body + lens price.

    Some great ideas Samuel , here are mine;
Keep the form factor the same , No flippy screen it doesn't need it imho.
Slight Resolution bump 33-45mp would be nice but also add a resolution choice i.e 24 or 45
Ditch video completely and save on the R&D , (will also remove ports that can let dust in)
    Improvement to button quality
Best available CPU , which will help with AF etc..
Better higher ISO performance and ditch all added NR to Raw files to enable AI noise reduction.

    _ AF confirmation
_ exposure information (aperture, shutter speed, iso)

I'd like to see a *decent* hotshoe mounted OVF that has a few electronic functions on it, so it's a sweet spot between performance, battery life, price, weight and features, but more useful than those basic OVFs. And a flash unit that can mount on the side, like an Olympus XA. For me, these are no-brainers. I think the best solution for an external EVF would be *compatibility* with an existing EVF, or if they just rebadged/licensed an existing EVF from Nikon/Canon etc.

    - stabilize the sensor around the focus point like what nikon recently did (it seems to really work well)
    - simplify the menu structure (like a Q for example)
    - no video features required, just remove the option completely
    - more adjustment options for creating in camera film recipes (would be great to be able to do it on your phone, see a preview and push it to the gr)
    - probably not possible but a better battery would be really great.
    - a monochrome hdf companion version next to a regular color one (i would buy both)
    - a custom crop option, would like to set my own in-camera crop (together with more film recipe configuration options (yes profiles bit film recipe sounds nicer😂) it would make it fun and easy to share everywhere without additional edits on the phone.

I'm not so sure about a removable OVF/EVF, part of me thinks you just want a X100. This is a different tool, respect the differences, cease with the pimping!
But... I did ponder if there is scope for more GR variations. Let's call the current GR the OG, it has no WR, no flash, no EVF, but it is slim, compact and genuinely pocketable. Would a bigger and larger GR sell? Would a larger GR with a built in OVF/EVF sell well? Maybe just make more GR products and let the market decide. Maybe some are ok with larger GR's if they have a flash and WR. Maybe a larger GR with an EVF/OVF will not put people off. And there is always the OG GR if you want that. The fans seem to have no problem having multiple GR's :D
I just see the tech accessory route a little ropey, I don't think cameras/brands that have went this route stick long term with those ideas, typically its a brain fart idea that they stop.

    Great video!
My concept of an ultimate GR:
    - add an electronic interface to the hot shoe for an external EVF with small contact pins, so the body without the EVF can look identical as the previous GR's
    - instead of a tilt screen, introduce an external miniature waist level(!) viefinder with high nit OLED for the hot shoe, wich sits nearly flush to the top plate
    - "solid state" construction with no collapsable lens barrel and internal focusing for state of the art fast AF and absolute dust and weather proof construction
    - full electronic shutter with high flash sync, so that no mechanical shutter is needed at all
    - Quad-Bayer Sensor with 50 to 100 million pixels or even more, with downsampled 20mp DNG files as standard, but possibility to "zoom" via crop
    - add a multi purpose ring with "focus tab" for zooming (cropping) or focusing stepless with absolute (!) values, not with relative positioning
    - add Pentaxes pixel shift technology with anti moire simulation, bayer pattern compensation etc.
    - perhaps make it a 1" sensor for even more compactness like the GR Digital
    - internal flash, even if it's only LED

My ideal Ricoh GR IV would have to be a proper upgrade with many new features. The new Ricoh GR Samuel is suggesting it would not be a real upgrade in my opinion. These are the main features I would like to see on the next Ricoh GR even if that would increase a bit the size of the camera which would not be a big deal for me:
    - 40mp sensor
    - new image processor with improved low light performance
    - a fixed compact prime lens which is already out that doesn't' suck any dust because there is no lens to retract.
    - new film simulations
    - a better compensation of highlights which is currently not so great on the Ricoh GR III
    - a tiny flash mostly for daytime photography
    - an improved manual mode which allows to change shutter speed and aperture more quickly and easily than it is now
    - weather sealed body.
I don't care if the camera would end up being a bit bigger.
Same sensor and small improvements would be a total disappointment.

The relationship I have with my GR IIIx is love/hate, in that order. I basically agree with what you say.
For those of us who have farsightedness (presbyopia) common at a certain age, the LCD screen does not have enough quality to discern the parameters of the camera, and in conditions where there is a lot of sunlight, you practically cannot see what you are photographing. I sincerely miss an optical viewfinder where I can see all the settings. In fact, I'm considering selling my Ricoh and buying a Fuji X-E3; we'll see...
I like your idea of the EVF, but I will almost prefer first an OVF.
Form factor is perfect. Get rid of the video capabilities or make it good. Otherwise, issues with battery, dust, flip screen, faster response, weather sealing... I can live with it.
Please, Ricoh, give us a OVF and/or a removable EVF!!!

Personally I'd much prefer a built-in tilt screen over an optional viewfinder. Tilt screen means I can hold the camera at waist height and look down at the screen (just like the old TLR cameras) and nobody has a clue I'm taking a picture. I'd be happy for the camera to be a few mm deeper for this, it would still be easily pocketable. Improved autofocus, especially in low light, would also be welcome: my 5yr old Fuji X-T30 is way ahead of the Ricoh in this regard. Apart from that, keep it exactly the same, as it's a unique and brilliant camera!

Agree! I would for sure buy an EVF for my GRs.

If they just made the Ricoh GR4 and 4X thicker from front to back it would still be tiny, keep the same silhouette and they could make it full frame 24MP, with an f-2 lens. Man, that would even crush the Leica Q, 2, 3, Fuji X100VI. The M240 was a thick boy and people loved it and even said it was better for ergos. I don't think that measurement makes too big of a difference. I know that cameras like the Sony RX1R has made a very small camera full frame I wonder if it's possible for the GR. I'm just dreaming.

Keep it simple. Improve the buttons that are a little mushy, better battery life, and flip up screen with better contrast and resolution. I agree with the improvement of the processor to make it snappier without the long black screen, but that's it. Instead of an EVF I'd invest in a system to insert filters (ND, diffusion, etc) not in the front with the adapter that make it bulky, but in a fashion like the Canon EF to RF adapter that allows you to slip them in by the side. This way every GR would/could be ND or HDF and they still would fit in the pocket.

Biggest problem for a GR with more megapixels is zone focus (snap): effective depth of field reduces if you plan to crop

The EVF would certainly be cool but considering the absolutely disgusting price of the current OVF, it just wouldn't be worth buying. It would be more expensive than a Voigtlander lens for goodness sake!

1: saying that you can do without a flip screen because you know the focal length is ridiculous tbh. You can't compose anything like accurately when holding a camera above your head and pointing down, as you showed here. HCB knew 50mm VERY well, but he still looked through that little hole.
2: I don't know why people care about resolution etc on an evf for a street camera. Your eye can see the details, colours etc etc that you want perfectly clearly, and you just need the evf to then balance the composition/geometry.
3: weather sealing is a must. I've seen a fair number of reviewers talking about how their GR froze for a while, even in just humid conditions not actually being exposed to rain. To say that you use your camera in the rain and have had no issues, but then go on to say you use an umbrella is kind of daft. Really, you're not using it in the rain are you?

I think the electronic viewfinder is a very good idea, but it will fail because of the price.
    1. a Ricoh already costs a lot
    2. the optical viewfinder was already very expensive, how much would an electronic one cost?
    let's assume it's 700 euros + 1000 euros for the Ricoh = 1700 euros

An EVF would be great, although like Samuel, I'm used to using the screen on my GR3. It certainly is trickier though in bright sunshine to see what's on screen, get perfect framing and not miss small details. But using the LCD, holding it further out in front of you with your arm is useful as it means the lens gets even closer to the subject that you might not do using a viewfinder. Personally I'd prefer a built in pop up EVF like the Sony cameras, because I use the LightPix Labs FlashQ Q20 ll pretty much all the time and the trigger already uses the hotshoe.

EVF as you want would cost more than the camera itself, remember the current GV-2 mini external viewfinder cost more than 200 euros!! You forgot to mention a bigger and better battery (the current one is a joke). Also better ergonomics and 3:4 aspect ratio !!!

and yeah Id like more quality (bits) but that will need even more performance than mere mpx
A thin silicone internal glove will protect and isolate sensor.
    We want also more reparabikty

If they made the Ricoh GR IV weatherproof and with a flash I’d be happy, I’d easily spend up to $1300 for a camera and repurchase every time it breaks down because I’ve bought 2 GR IIIs and they both have issues that can’t seem to be fixed for some reason. We don’t need any filters added and the firmware is fine - they updated the firmware this year and it’s not as good as last year but honestly just want the camera to be more durable and easier to handle 24/7.

Strange... I don't have that long screen blackout. The blackout is shorter than it takes me to lift my finger for the next shot. But I am using the shutter button, not the screen. Maybe that is the difference.

It's not an improvement to the camera, but something for this camera - I'd love to have software that could use the camera's processor to process raw files to help make it much easier and faster to adjust jpg settings and create recipes. Basically a software like Fujifilm X RAW Studio.

I would like full press snap to be faster. Or let us tune the speed of the full press. I can never seem to get it to work, and when it does, I've jerked my wrist.
Or perhaps just let us toggle with a button snap shooting on/off. SFP currently is hard to use cos it overrides all manual controls, making it kinda useless.

would not use a removable viewfinder (your roving eye concept is a gimmick - no thanks). agree no flipscreen. it should be compact and robust - even more robust? agree 24MP is totally fine and preferable if they can do magic with dynamic range and noise in that order. that image quality enhancemeent would be better than having digital zoom which i dislike. optical viewfinder for fixed optical lens would be better (as having a viewfinder helps to stabilise the camera). weather sealing is important - a compact and also robust camera gives it value beyond the street eg for hiking and trekking and other adventurous use.

700 euros is insanity for a tilting viewfinder. As for Bluetooth connectivity it does sound cool but only if you can turn Bluetooth off. If it’s constantly looking for a signal then it’s a no go!

Very good video, it's something I also miss, a fast burst so I don't miss anything and the screen stays on during the bursts, since it turns black and I lose the frame of what I'm doing. The articulated screen is a must, really useful in certain shots so I don't have to get down on the ground. An electronic viewfinder as an accessory in a great idea, I hope they listen to you.
