It was incredibly clever of Bach to have the end of the work use the opening melody to the text “Sicut erat in principio,” or in English “as it was in the beginning”

FYI: In the Omnes generationes, Zoltán Göncz discovered that if you count the separate entries of the theme (which has five repeating eighth notes), and count two simultaneous entries as one, it adds up to 41, the same number of entries in Matthew 1:1-16 that lists out the linage of Jesus beginning with Abraham. It's probably no accident, as Bach was very fond of hiding things like this in his music.
Zoltán Göncz, a genius musicologist and composer, is probably the greatest technical expert ever on the music of Bach, and has even written an amazing quadruple fugue completion of Contrapunctus 14 from the Art of the Fugue.

Regarding the keys for the instruments, the trumpets here are in D, so their part appears in C in the first movement. In the soprano aria and in other places the oboes are oboes d'amore which are in A, so the aria in B minor appears in D minor in their parts.

    • @eliasgc49

That's the written part. When they sound the written part the trumpet should sound in D.

One of the most unusual works of Bach. On the one hand, this is an ordinary cantata, and on the other hand, Magnificat stands alone in the range of Bach's works. Music is not revealed to the listener from the first time, it took me a lot of time to delve into the depth of this music.

I found a Barenreiter edition which is based on the Original Manuscript and has 4 insert movements. Insert Movement A can be sung either Acapella or you can have the Continuo Section (and Organ) play along doubling the Bass Line, which is where the idea of some Choral arrangements that can be sung both ways (I.E. Blinding Lights arranged by Mark Brymer) came from.

Incredible work by Geru, as always. But I do so wished he would've made a scrolling score version of the far better earlier E flat major version (BWV 243.1, formerly known as BWV 243a) with the extra German 'Christmas' choruses which are added. They turn this work from amazing into something amazing yet moving. I highly highly recommend the recording sung by the Collegium Vocale Gent and conducted by Philippe Herreweghe.
