The Most Underrated Event In Track & Field!

- No other movement in sport subjects a human limb to more force than the step in the triple jump. How much force? Research at the University of Iowa showed that the force exerted by a triple jumper can be up to to 22 times the athletes body weight. According to Dr Sam Allen, a lecturer in biomechanics at Loughborough University, that’s the equivalent of an athlete briefly weighing 1.7 tonnes / 3600 pounds (or the weight of a fully grown rhino) and briefly standing on one leg. Published papers have proven triple jumpers develop unusually thick thigh and shin bones to enable them to withstand the force of the event.
And that is just one of the reasons the triple jump might be the most underrated event in track and field. This video highlights an incredible track and field event at 1000 frames per second from the hop to the step to the jump.

The production value in this, my God! Excellent job, guys!
Much appreciated! Great name btw
I know right. Give the editor a raise and a beer, they deserve it.
Good editing but why do you have to bring god into it
bro explained it like he was on national geographic

I heard this comment
I still have Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games on for my DS 😭
Why am I hearing what I read? help
Thank you! I truly believe Jonathan Edwards world record is among the most beautiful and powerful displays of athleticism ever
Heck yeah! Agree, also feel the same about the Willie Banks record...simply amazing
Yessirrrr
i dont follow triple jump very closely but pretty much every jumping event always seems super underrated. the bob beamon mex city record is honestly my favorite wr of any event and it doesnt mean much to athletes who havent competed in lj until you go outside and try to jump 5 yards to realize he broke 9
I was just going to say that. Amazing.
I’ve met him, awesome guy
It’s one of my favorite events this explanation make me love it even more 🔥🤣
That's fantastic to hear Rene!
wish the olympics would put in an average joe from the country of the host just to see the gap in ability for every event
I was practicing this in my backyard one time, my mom asks what I'm doing. She didn't think it was a real event. "There's no such thing!" then the Olympics came on TV...
haha, that's great!
The editor need a raise💀💀💀
bro fr, like were those shadows below the 3d text??
yep it;s beautiful
He even had the 3d text track with the camera right as the athlete started to perform the jump. Top notch work
"That's like jumping over 3 NBA players!"
that's such an American measuring system.
true. I actually have no idea how long or short is that. Had he said 6 meters, it would have made more sense to me lol
Same people complaining is the same people who expect everyone to know every soccer team
Dumb as hell, everyone knows NBA players are usually 2 meters tall, and I aint even American, I'm southeast Asian and i know that
He shows pictures of each player and their first name you can look up their measurements
@@1nonlyZnet oh... Yaaay, great solution. More work for me adding feet and inches which already make no sense to me... Then I have to add the word meter behind each player's name after I google their name based on their picture only.
Assuming that everyone watches the NBA is false, but even 10 year olds around the world know what a 1meter is.
We don't measure distance using distinct human individuals. I was a jumper and if I go to the referee and wait for him to announce my jump's measuring, and he says "7 and a half jordans" fvvk that! I am slapping the sense into him at whatever cost.
@Khalid Cloud I mean tbh it isn't if you know the average hight of a person and just exaggerated it. A bit
As a former hurdler and triple jumper, i just got shin splint PTSD flashbacks
Every field event is underrated
The perfect balance of power and grace. Triple jump takes a very unique type of athleticism. Man I love this event.
19 feet is also the distance from the free throw line to the baseline in basketball
Bro could dunk from 19 feet
@@adipadi9350 No lol, he's jumping straight to keep momentum, he wouldnt have enough height for that
@@adipadi9350 nah he’d have to jump higher
@@chasejordan9295 he can, he can probably long jump at least 26 feet
@Even though Im a loser and a virgin with small pp, Yea but the way they jump they dont get that kind of height. They sprint and dont get enough height off the ground, and they land in sand not on hardwood. So no chance he could mate
Watching a high level triple jumper in slo mo is mind bending. Like how is this humanly possible
Thanks for making this
I am a triple jumper and people don't appreciate enough the physical abilities needed to execute those three phases perfectly. You have to have a balance of speed power and balance to do it.
Well said!
Ain’t nobody beating Mario “Jump Man” Mario in this event ever.
Antetokounmpo needs to learn this form he could pick the ball up at 3/4 court and dunk.
That would be a sight to see!
That would be great except for the fact you can only take two steps without dribbling in basketball.
@@ButIWontStopNowbro hasn't been watching giannis take 5 steps with no call
You’re honestly so right about this, going to local field meets and seeing the triple jumpers is like seeing a different species to the rest of is, they’re just built differwnt
Real differwnt
Their joints are made of something else, that's for sure
This is one of my favorite track events, absolute shin killer tho haha
The way you explained it was so sick, thank you
Thanks!
Ugh, 57'-4" 😅 I can't even... 🤝🏻 My best was 42'-6" and I loved every moment of it. Stone bruises and all!
42’ ain’t nothing to be ashamed of!
yeah lol I only get like 40 ft at most
don't ya hate when the NBA leave their players laying around
Thank you. You are the only competent person on the internet. I finally understand what a triple jump is. Thank you I was so confused before I saw this video.
🙂 Welcome!
Why was this so satisfying I watched this 5 times his voice is also so calm
I did triple jump(and decathlon) up through junior college, and I'm currently helping my son with the triple jump and high jump.
Triple jump is my favorite. My mind is blown at the thought of his second phase being within a foot of the first and third phase distances.
Still seeing a bunch of long jumpers trying triple jump, and having a tiny step phase.
Absolutely, the step phase is where many athletes struggle, definitely key to the event. Drills that improve rhythm and balance, such as varied distance hop-step-jump drills and bounding exercises really help momentum during the second phase.
This video helps me because I’m new at triple jump so it’s hard for me but I’m getting better at it
I used to compete in the triple jump event in highschool and you explained the mechanics of it perfectly. I love it. ❤
That's awesome, thanks!
nah he’s discovering bunny hopping irl
One of the coolest shorts I've seen 😍😍. Awesome
Appreciate it!
In high school and college, I competed in the triple jump. It was one of my favorite events!
Thanks Coach...
You bet!
Great editing
Thanks!
My dad was one of the best triple jumpers in Poland (talking about the Youths category) and his record still is unbeaten by anybody. This video made me respect him even more
Great to hear!
Can u please do one on vertical jumps? Loved the video
Great suggestion!
I don't give half a fuck about long jumping but whoever put this together kept it RIVETING the whole time!
My cousin is really good at the triple jump, tbh never heard of it before that, yes it is underrated
THANK YOU
As a pole vaulter this event scares the everliving hell out of me 😭
haha!
As a triple jumper pole vault scares the ever living hell out of me 😀
Insane short keep it up bro
Appreciate it
I'm a triple jumper and the force coming down on one leg is so true my nees hurt for days
Jeez there are some really underated and dangerous/physically challenging sports
editing is EXTREMELY good. wow.
Appreciate it!
I’m with you TJ super underrated!
Did the Triple, Long, & High jump in high-school track. Triple is def tougher then it looks.
I triple jumped 2 years in high school (was never good at it) and gained so much respect for those that can do this well.
I know this is super underrated but I’m in track and fields and I do long jump and I totally have to agree that the triple jump is way more hard than it looks ❤
My favorite event
I didn't knew this existed, but just so let you know, I am instantly a fan 🖤
That is good editing, especially the shadows 😩😮💨
Thanks, great eye for detail!
The live action of Cyberpunk Edgerunners is looking dope, David Martinez seems a little different here but the Sandevistan is the same! (Jk, awesome video, insane edit)
haha! thanks
Love this chanel
I love your channel ❤
Appreciate it!
This was my favourite event in track and field
Yes bro! I do triple jump and it hurts a ton when you land in that one leg again
I loved triple jumping. My best in HS was 43'11" I ended up getting several stress fractures in my foot winning regionals. I didnt tell my coach for fear he wouldn't let me compete the next week in the state championships meet. The following week at states, I ended up placing 8th when I was projected to win. With a broken foot. It still bothers me sometimes more than 30 years later.
This Was Absolutely Incredible
Thanks, appreciate it!
I love doing triple jump
You should take a look at power tumbling. They are also playing with insane forces, and it is also the sport that most deserve to be in the Olympics
interesting!
From what I’ve seen, long distance doesn’t get enough love either! Although that might just be because no one wants to do it😅 Triple jump is lots of fun to watch too!
Great point!
Bro was waking on air
this is incredible
man i hurt my ankle my senior year while not knowing what to do. did it twice and was solid. but it help me shift into a different runner and do better in the events i could excel at.
“You’ll sail over 19 ft”
**me who does 10**
Keep at it!
facts lol TJ in college has destroyed my knees with how pounding it is
That's why learning the proper technique and training methods is so critical.
Chris is a absolute unit
Fast bowling in cricket also generates some insane forces onto one foot
At my son's district track meet Wednesday, our school's #1 TJer hit a PR of 46'8". He is a junior in HS.
Even though I’m a pole vaulter, which I think is pretty damn hard as well, triple jump always fascinates me. I’ve once tried it myself, and goddamn is that shit hard
🤣 Def agree about PV
Nah im laughing my ass off on that last position 😂🤣
This sport is dope
Editing 1 no
ngl in the hop he looked like he was walking on air
An impressive demonstration and a very impressive feat but it really demonstrates why athletes bodies break down so fast.
Love it i use it evryday
Wow that explains me so much about Titan fall and Apex legends!!
I was waiting for u to do a front flip
My hurdler's knee took an enormous amount of weight. It began to dislocate without warning at 17 and by the time it was replaced, there was pretty much no knee at all
Well that was impressive
So slick.
I need this so bad.
That wild 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Dude I found the video
I tried to mimick the movements once for fun and man is it harder than it looks
man just bunny hopped
Watched this on the day of my event without knowing shit about triple and ended up coming 2nd
The bro is flying
My right knee hurts while watching this
🔥
Bro got that new sandevistan chrome
You should make a vid about volleyball
The cool thing is that I meet this guy in person
Wah wah wahooohoooo!!
is 40 feet good for a 14 year old?
Yes, that is a solid distance for that age.
@@OutperformOfficial thank you
Imagine this guy hop stepping from the 3 point line💀
Woah i never saw it this way😳this is incredible but all those landing scare me with all that force being generated😭seems very injury prone
Triple Jump and any Distance are my main events
I love sports ❤❤
Bro made jumping dramatic
first jump looks like he's walking on air
Bros that main character when he describes how he won with an underrated move.
For a second I thought he was playing QWOP 😂
I think throwing is honestly really underrated too
Agree!
Throwing is the easiest thing ever def not underrated
Seeing this in real time is the most impressive part
