It's because we get our information about Genghis Khan (correctly written Chinggis Khaan) from a book called Secret History of The Mongols. It mostly talks about the good things he did like being loyalty, honor and mercifulness (sending missionaries before attacking) etc. Besides, no one except Mongolians can say 'our ancestor who started as a slave managed to conquer most of Eurasia'.
He is not comparable to hitler or stalin or people like that. Genghis Khan was a brutal conqueror for sure, but he was not an evil person in any way. Hey Simon, I am from Kiev, where GENGHIS KHAN in 1237 (supposedly) lost half of his army (one half of the million) during the siege. Read many books and articles about it. However, according many historic scholars, that never happed. The thing is, it was logistically impossible to travel such large army across immense distance from Mongolia. Can you look into it and maybe do video?
WRONG! Your version of him killing his brother is inaccurate. His brother went hunting for food and was eating the food and not sharing it with the family. Genghis caught him doing so and killed him. They were hungry and the brother was hoarding the food before returning to camp. I'd say he had it coming.
@@gregormundell1058 Completely irrelevant, you aren't actually trying to say that killing your brother over eating food he should of shared was a necessary method of survival?
Business Yes, one less mouth to feed. In times like that one meal could be potentially life saving. The food his brother hoarded could very well have killed everyone else by proxy so he deserved what he got.
@@gregormundell1058 So by killing his brother does that make the food situation better, does it improve their chances of getting food in anyway ? One less mouth to feed? sounds like he was feeding himself. Your logic is non existent. Pretty bold use of the word "fact" here guys. Just about everything we know of genghis was written by the Chinese, as the Mongols didn't have much of a written language. I've heard the opposite of several of your points, religious tolerance being a big one. That being said I enjoyed the video and hearing other theories.
I’m sorry but you left out important information on number 9. The Russian princes killed Mongolian ambassadors who were seeking diplomacy! That’s why the mongols captured them and then put them under the floorboards of their gers.
number 8-From what I read Genghis and his family were left for dead by their tribe after his father died. They were almost starving and his older brother would hunt and eat the food himself without sharing it with the other family members. That is the reason he was killed.
When Temujin was about to kill his brother he knew what temujin was going to do and accepted it with one last request. That temujin would protect his little brother
Legally he couldnt be held responsible for all of those victims though because he was involved indirectly in most cases. The sentence would still be enormous of course.
There were a string of cities that were absolutely annihilated in the wake of Genghis Khan and his army's onslaught through the khwarezm: Samarkand, Merv, Urgench etc... All were massacred almost to the person. Merv was considered one of the weathliest and most prosperous cities of it's time. .

Just a bit of background...The picture you used at 7:41 is of Sikh guru Arjun dev ji. He is considered a great martyr. The Mughals of India were trying to force Sikhs into Islam. The Sikhs refused and fought against Mughals. Sikhs fought against Mughals for centuries and prevailed. Sikhs finally established Sikh raj in 1800s. Guru Arjun dev ji was boiled to death in 1606 in the city of Lahore (ironically the city became Sikh capital 2 centuries later). I have read somewhere that Mughals were descended from Mongols.
+Hablayo pakistan became an independent nation in 1947 before that it was all India. The Sikhs established Sikh kingdom in 1800 under maharaja ranjit Singh. Lahore was the capital of Sikh kingdom.Ranjit Singh died in 1839, his sons and grandson tried to control the kingdom but due to inner conflict and betrayal by dogras the Sikhs lost the kingdom to British in 1849. Most of the Punjab (both punjabs Indian and Pakistani) was under Sikh kingdom. I am a Sikh and I like to read about Sikh history.

You sir is the definition of an idiot. Genghis was the Hitler of medieval times. 10-15% of worlds population mostly civilians was mass slaughtered by your idol. That number is equivalent to over 1 billion human beings in todays world.
No it's in the way they are treated allowing religion in a large land empire is not revolutionary or unique. As said in the video jews and muslims were oppressed. The mongols burned russian orthodox churchs then the mongols didnt tax them and allowed the russians to practice christianity since the mongols couldnt do much. Theres little evidence to show the effect these religious individuals had on the mongols and mongol empire.
Khan knew how to get other tribes join him a lot of the time and when they refused he still won against most of them. What I Like is the Mongols where indifferent to what religion a person practiced.
He was a great innovator and commander, also very normal and humane in terms of nomadic standards. In nomadic conquering tradition if you do not obey at first place, you usually get killed. The khan just killed who disobey or harm him / his subjects and he was an unrivaled conqueror so the numbers on statistics are big (we are talking about conquest of almost whole Asia that time, c'mon!).
Two major things he got wrong. It wasn’t just an “enemy” who captured and burned his generals, it was actually Brother. Other thing wrong was he was tolerant in freedom of religion. Same as Xerexes.
Norman Hampton I don't live in Mongolia I am studying abroad and I know a lot about my countries history. In Mongolia you do have internet in the big cities :-)

i took Ancient Europe History back in college during 2013-14. The only reason why Europe including UK; Ireland was spared of being conquered was because when the latest Khan died, the general assigned to conquered Europe assumed he had a chance to obtain the status Khan because of his lineage. This event halted his almost uncontested campaign in Europe and he returned back to either Mongolia or China. The truly SCARY part here was that, just before the Khan died, the general was just in the mist of conquering Hungary. Hungary was pretty much a perfect vast flat land that would've been capable of fueling hundreds of thousands of horses which where pretty much the bulk of the Khan army's mobility making them so efficient. If the Khan was too just die a month after the general conquered Hungary, there was a possibility that the General would never gotten the message, or decided not to returned because of the strategic position Hungary was. Events like this and the Typhoon season that the Mongolians lack knowledge of which would have postpone the evasion resulting in all of Mongolian's forces to land Japan twice are just some of the luckiest events that possible would've change history as we know it...
Number four is demonstrably incorrect. Genghis Khan was generally tolerant of local religious practices so long as they didn't interfere with Mongolian rule. He had many generals that were of various different religions, and the practice of Christianity seemed to particularly appeal to Mongol sensibilities with many of them converting.
"I'm the punishment of God, if you have not committed great sins God would not have inflicted a punishment such as me upon you." - Genghis Khan That's what he said regarding the number 2 fact. That's an epic quote right there.
To think that the Khawarmiyan empire might have survived if they have not killed the envoy. The Jin empire might have survived if they have not asked for tribute.
Gengis Khan was tolerant with religions. In fact he searched for a suitable one to sort of complement the ancient Mongol religion. However, his tactic was surrender to our will (and join our army) or die. It was not him but some of his descendants who carried out the worst massacres. Batu Khan terrorized the Rus and East Europe. Hulagu Khan, a few years later was the one who ordered the Baghdad massacre, and then west to Syrian kingdoms: the pouring molten gold down the throat method had been used by king Mitridates with the Romans; now the Mongol scorched enemies and forced them to eat their own flesh. Still, the 'most terrible' tag is usually stuck to 'Timur', 'Timur the Lame' considered himself a descendant of the 4 Khans when their empire was divided into Hordes.
Not Tamuuuujin. It's pronounced Timujin. He unified a country. He set laws and rules. He hated racism or classism. He looked upon a man by the courage and character a man had. Gaaadammit...modern world can learn something from this legend.
@@midare39 Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Vietnam, the Middle East, Somalia and the list goes on.... Oh pardon me, I guess this genocide is fine since your heroes are doing it for a worthy cause 🙄

Wow this whistler guy certainly does condense the great khan. Marco Polo and his uncle traveled in Old Cathay for twenty years as guests of the Great Khan. He did not go and kill entire populations straight out. If you read in the Marco Polo logs, which I think whistler hasn't read, it clearly identifies his strategy for conquest. First he would ask if they would surrender to him. Should they say no, he went to the next town and slaughtered everyone. Then he would come back to the previous city and ask them again. They would gladly surrender to his troops. I highly recommend a reading of the Adventures of Marco Polo. it's more than a swimming pool game.

Genghis Khan was dead by then...it was his grandson Batu Khan!
Not if you take your food with you like they did.
The Mongols took Kievan Rus very easily so the historic scholars are correct.
WRONG! Your version of him killing his brother is inaccurate. His brother went hunting for food and was eating the food and not sharing it with the family. Genghis caught him doing so and killed him. They were hungry and the brother was hoarding the food before returning to camp. I'd say he had it coming.
Had it coming? Alright then, you're a sociopath...
Andrew Fitins Times were brutal, if your ancestors weren’t sociopaths you wouldn’t be here.
I don't know but maybe he could threaten his brother or just take the food but killing a family member who at the very least can hunt accomplishes nothing.
and today millions of Mongol people look up to him as a national hero. seriously how messed up should your world view be to admire such a lunatic. it's like if Germans had a status of A.H in all their cities today.
He was also known to be very generous unlike most khans. He favored methods that would ensure that most of his men would not die. And this was hundreds of years ago man Europe had worse torture methods then.

If the Khan was brought back to life today, how many life sentences would he get?
As much as the entire universe if possible.
I would be more concerned about how many ppl he would continue to kill before meeting any of those life sentences...
Lets base the US sentence of murder

Genghis never took part in the campaigns in Europe. He left it to his generals Subutai and Batu Khan
If europe was conqueror by mongols it wasnt europe now it was asia!
He is worst than Hitler

I have read somewhere that Mughals were descended from Mongols.
rani sandhu they mongols you right but isn't Lahore in Pakistan now how is it Sikh Capital ?

There was a movie made about Genghis Khan called The Conqueror, starring (and I am not making this up) John Wayne as Genghis.

It's really bad, possibly his worst movie. His "Genghis Kahn" "acting" was indistinguishable from his "American Cowboy" and I'm actually a fan. Of his movies.

Number 5, wrong, he would be merciful if they had surrendered
i took Ancient Europe History back in college during 2013-14.

"I'm the punishment of God, if you have not committed great sins God would not have inflicted a punishment such as me upon you." - Genghis Khan
