Not sure why people think this isn't the definitive ending for Kiryu story as a whole.
Look at him, while he no longer have the strength to fight, he has regained his will to live, which is his character arc in this game. He already united with Haruka and Haruto by this point, seeing how they visited a room with his name on it.

I kinda agree. At first, I was kinda disappointed, because I got my expectations up for a crazy finale with either Kiryu having a dramatic death, or living to see his family again and breaking free from the daidoji, but after thinking about it, I actually really like the actual ending a lot.
I feel the name of the final boss theme, "End of the Denial", is less Ebina's theme, and more Kiryu's theme, representing how his final battle is the one where he finally realized he wants to live.
I don't think it's a set up for a future game like people are saying. Kiryu is irrecoverably weakened in this game's ending, which I think was to make a point about how he's going to live and enjoy life without the action and drama going forward.
I still think the execution could've been a little better, but honestly, I really like this interpretation of Kiryu's finale!

Cause it really isn't, as long as Daidoji are alive and controlling all the strings even if he beats cancer he would still not be able to go back to the orphanage and live a happy life. We will see Kiryu's definitive ending most likely in the next game, where Daidoji (and some random new villains) will be the main antagonist. I imagine that the whole game will be about Kiryu fighting cancer and doing the treatment while Ichiban and his friends (probably Majima, Daigo, Akiyama and Saejima too since they're back in aciton) will fight the Daidojis to let kiryu be free once and for all. After all Daidojis are said to be a kind of Mafia in the politicians world and Yakuza games are all about fighting against the dark side of the world

@@BeinZZhChannel Trying to take down the Daidoji in the next game is an enticing concept, but honestly I think they're done with Kiryu. The Daidoji are an organization that almost nobody knows about and can only operate in the shadows, and Kiryu is too famous now to be involved with them. We have Kiryu on audio recordings, video recordings, plastered all over the internet from god-knows how many smartphones, been reported on in mainstream media, and has countless eyewitness accounts. No matter how powerful you think the Daidoji are, Kiryu is standing under a gigantic spotlight and even the Daidoji don't have a ladder tall enough to turn it off. By continuing to be associated with Kiryu, they risk knowledge of their existence and they can't have that.
I'd Imagine the Daidoji will let him sever ties, provided he doesn't spill the beans to anyone about the organization or it's involvement. Don't even get me started on all the problems this ending has, but this is the only aspect of it I think I have nailed down.

I Love Ichiban's Ending and I can tell Yokoyama really knew what he was doing. The Fact that we all know Ichi is really forgiving and proceeds to Try and Redeemn Eiji show's the scene very well. Everyone Hates Eiji be it the NPCs or even the Fanbase hell even me and the writers knew we'd hate it because thats the message. It completely resonates the theme with 2nd Chances just like Ebina thinking the yakuza are never forgivable but kiryu begs him and Kasuga knows damn well what its like to be hated by people being a yakuza. The game is basically trying to convey because people did very bad things we all hate them but everyone always has the choice to atone and continue to keep living. Hanawa's end was summed up by kiryu, he was just a man who's constantly worked by the Daidoji and he could finally rest albeit it was not the ending we hoped for but a tragedy. Theres still alot of plot holes like Akane-san, Lani and Wong Tou's son but thats the problem with having so many characters as its neigh on impossible to conclude them in 1 game. My guess is that their setting up future games where we meet them. It does seem like the gang is gonna split up until the next adventure comes again. I just wish we get a DLC to give kiryu a Closure with Haruka.

      Finally someone said it
Ichiban is the type of person to go above and beyond for people, making sure they get put on the right path despite what they've done, if the person wants to atone and make amends.
I look up to characters like him because it shows that not everyone deserves every bad thing that's coming for them. There are plenty of people in this world in which, despite the horrible things they've done, they can still try to set things right, if they allow themselves to want to set things right.
The problem is, a bunch of people in this world refuse to let others make amends and atone, and rather see them get hurt or put to death. Infinite Wealth literally displayed that when ichiban was carrying Eiji to the police station, with all the bottles being thrown at the both of them, injuring them and being beaten, and this comment section is no different from that cutscene since I'm seeing some people in the comments wishing for Eiji to be beaten more.
It honestly makes me laugh at how people just refuse to let a person change and are sick and twisted enough to wish and want for them to be beaten and dead. That just makes the majority of society no better and no different then Eiji.
I wish more people would be like Ichiban, otherwise, the world would be so much better then it is now if we just all came together to help someone who wants to make change and a difference.

When Eiji was Apologizing to ichiban during them getting thrown at and punched too i cried because i can see that felt he terrible but ichi was just being him. Personally to me, that's just no different from any other person who have gone and actually done it, because if everyone in this world actually followed through wanting to kill or beat someone up for whatever evil deeds they've committed, then they'd just be another Eiji.
Yeah, I do believe there are people in this world that should be thrown away and locked up forever, but nothing more, cause beyond those groups of people who don't want nothing to do with change, there is bound to be someone that wants to change and make a difference, and it's those kinds of people I despise seeing get hurt.
If it wasn't for Ichiban, Eiji wouldn't have agreed to turn himself in. Ichiban said it better myself, that the fact that he's willing and feels guilt at what he's done is proof that he can make amends, and to see society throw things at the both of them as well as beating up Ichiban all to try to help a friend get the change he needs and the change he wants is sickening, and a constant reminder that we as humans do have the ability to change regardless of whatever evil deeds a person has done. It just takes a huge society to collectively come together and support one another on their journey to change.
The world will be so much better off that way, but unfortunately, it's not like that, and I don't have the power to change that, but characters like Ichiban is what makes me the person I am, to reach out for those that no one in society dares to reach out too. To help those climb back up to society and do better, and I hope and pray that in the future, society would have more of those kinds of people and not just the rarity such as myself.

I've had a lot of time to think about the ending to this game, and I've finally put my thoughts together. It's totally fine if you don't agree with me.
The last thing I wanted to see was Ichiban get beaten up by those social media fraudsters, and not even fight back, and have bottles thrown at him. That aside, I truly feel that the "redemption" message was used with the completely wrong character. Eiji may have turned himself in, but he did not deserve that heart-to-heart with Ichiban after everything he did. You can argue that the whole point was for the audience to hate him, but my issue is it doesn't make sense to give a second chance to the guy who took away EVERYONE's second chance. Eiji screwed over so many people, and he's pretty much the reason the ex-yakuza's security company failed. I feel like they stretched Ichiban's "too trusting for his own good" trait a little too far here. A better character to use this lesson with would have been either Yamai or Sasaki. Yamai is truly remorseful of his actions and even turned himself in, and Sasaki was willing to get a job and turn his life around, but they never truly followed up on him. The last we know is that he was disposing of nuclear waste with the Seiryu Clan, but then he's never mentioned again.
I don't expect endings to always be happy, but this overall doesn't seem like a very conclusive ending, because there are just so many things that don't get answered properly. Does Ichiban ever really clear his name after his appearance on the Tatara Channel? Is the five-year yakuza clause, the catalyst for a lot of these events, still going to be in effect after this? What's going to happen with the nuclear waste on Nele Island? Are they just going to leave it all there? What's Sasaki going to do now that the nuclear waste operation isn't happening anymore? What are the Barracudas and Ganzhe going to do now that their leaders are dead and Bryce, their "Overseer", is going to jail? Is it like the yakuza where a second-in-command, like a captain, takes over, or will they just dissolve? There's a lot that could be explored there. Plus, are they going to continue to be a threat in Hawaii? What is the Yamai Syndicate going to do now, and what's going to happen with their territory? What's going to happen with Wong's now orphaned son? I suppose he could go to the Palekana orphanage, but it's never actually said. What happened to Ebina, and what's stopping him from trying to get revenge on the yakuza again? (Somehow I don't think he was convinced by Kiryu's apology.) What happened to Sawashiro after he was beaten within an inch of his life? Did the second dissolution actually go through, because Sawashiro was pretty hell-bent on seeing it through, since it's what Arakawa would have wanted. Are Ichiban, Adachi and Nanba going to look for jobs? In the beginning, they stated that they can't hang out with Zhao and Joongi whenever they want since they basically live in different worlds, which is understandable, but in the end we see them all hanging out together at Survive as if there's no issue. I assume Ichiban, Adachi and Nanba don't have to worry since they're unemployed at that point, but wouldn't this affect Saeko's job if people knew she spends time with people from Japan's "underworld"?
It was a little predictable, but nice to see Daigo, Majima and Saejima step in and help Kiryu at Milennium Tower. However, I feel like it might have made more sense for them to show up in the final battle with Ebina, perhaps as summons or something. Moreover, the story never addresses what are they going to do now. After that pep talk Kiryu gave them back on the island, I would hope they find another way to help ex-yakuza get back on their feet, but nothing of the sort is ever mentioned.
Here's an idea: Ichiban is the president of his own company in the last game, which is huge by the end of his story with Eri. I'm sure he would be more than happy to hire the ex-yakuza. His appearance on the Tatara Channel, assuming he never addressed it, might be a huge PR problem, however.
I'm a little conflicted with the Ichiban and Saeko scene. On one hand, that is hilarious and absolutely 100% an Ichiban thing to do, but on the other hand, I think this situation could have been treated with a little more respect. I know Ichiban still has some growing up to do, but he loves Saeko, and he spent the entire game contemplating what went wrong on their date and how to make things right with her, only for him to do... that. It feels like a sitcom where the writers choose to sacrifice opportunities for character growth so that they can make jokes instead. I love Yakuza/LAD's off-the-walls humor, but I think it also has its time and place. Remember the tear-jerking heart-to-heart Ichiban had with Masato, where he actually talked him out of committing suicide? Imagine how tone-deaf it would have been to have Ichiban cracking jokes in the middle of it.
Lastly, I think Kiryu's ending was... fine. I might not be reading into it enough, but his ending seemed weirdly ambiguous. Haruka and Haruto obviously know he's not dead, seeing as they're visiting him at the hospital, but does Kiryu saying his real name to the doctor mean he's allowed to use his real identity again? Because he went back to his combed-down hairstyle from the beginning of the game, part of his "Taichi Suzuki" alias I'm assuming, and he's been using his real name almost entirely throughout the game anyway. Considering how strict the Daidoji Faction has been with him, I'm surprised that there seems to be no consequences to people knowing he's still alive. Plenty of people already know now, too, between this and the events of Man Who Erased His Name. This was presented as Kiryu's last game, and it seemed pretty clear with the cancer diagnosis, Kiryu collapsing and coughing up blood in the forest, and the Memoirs of a Dragon substories, but the ending just didn't commit to it, and instead suggested that Kiryu will be returning. Part of me was expecting to see a new gravestone next to Nishiki, Yumi, and Kazama's.
Also I might be missing something, but why was this game called "Infinite Wealth" in the first place? Aside from the Hype Meter's infinity symbol, and this being the 8th entry in the series (infinity symbol on its side), I didn't see anything "wealth" or "infinity"-themed anywhere.
All in all, I loved the game for the story, and all the improvements made to the battle system, but the ending left a bad taste in my mouth. It left a lot to be desired.

    • @SK32115

Yeah, I agree with a lot of what you said. Overall, I get the feeling the ending was rushed and there were so many unanswered questions that you stated which left a mixed opinion on the ending. It might have to do with the juggling of so many characters involved in the story. I was expecting a more emotional bit with the romantic storyline with saeko and Ichiban which didn't happen. They set it up with a scene where it had that tone when they last talked before Ichiban left for Hawaii before the final fight and really you don't know if Saeko feels the same way for Ichiban. It ultimately left it one - sided. You also don't know if Ebina ultimately listened to Kiryu at the end as well. I don't know if they are just setting him up to return once more as an adversary. I could go on and on but yeah I much preferred the ending to the previous Like a Dragon entry than this ending.

Plus, kiryu feels responsible since he not only abandon the Tojo on multiple occasions but actively avoided helping until it was nearly too late. Multiple characters over the years plus a few in this game talk about how different things would've been, how better it would've been if Kiryu stepped up as Kazama, Sera, and others wanted him to do. He's happy with his life and proud he's been able to help people from his orphans to his friends but like most good men, laments the lives he couldn't save. Or rather in this case, the lives he feel he could helped and saved if he had taken responsibility soon in his life on not on his "death bed". The more I think on Ebina and Kiryu's moment here, the more I come to enjoy it. Even if I still feel Ich would have been a more fitting protag for this fight.

The story and ending is disappointing and doesn't make sense , the palekana cult thing with the Lani girl and Bryce takes too much portion of the whole narrative. Eiji and Ebina should had been one character (Ebina goes undercover as the wheelchair guy at the beginning), and Ebina should had been a two phase final boss, phase 1 with Kiryu's party, and phase 2 with Ichiban's party.
Ebina hating the whole Yakuza and especially Masumi Arakawa is fine motivation, he views Yakuza as selfish people who takes what they want with violence and never care about anything than themselves. So he sets up a situation where they can never integrate back to society , so either they starve on the outside or go back to Seiryu Clan and get sent to the nuclear disposal site to die slow painful death by radiation to pay back for their sins.
Ichiban sticking out his neck so much for Eiji makes him super stupid , it's just a guy who he knows for several days and have some fun with for a bit. I get they want to make Ichiban a loveable goof with boundless love, but even in yakuza 7 he almost killed a yakuza goon in his frustration, Ichiban does have his limit of what he can tolerate. Meanwhile if it always has been Ebina all along then it makes sense , since he already failed to save a brother (Ryo Aoki/ Masato Arakawa), and this is his second chance to save his family along with Akane. And he know Masumi Arakawa would want this if he knows he has another illegitimate child, since Masumi treat Ichiban as an actual son even though Masumi only know Ichiban as a kid he adopted
Kiryu being so concerned about the Lana girl is....fine i guess since he did see Haruka in her, but if there's something that Kiryu does right his whole live is protecting Haruka, he doesn't have any regret over this. You know the thing he fails and still feel regretful about? Saving Nishiki and Shintaro Kazama. If they address Ichiban and Ebina's relationship as half brothers a lot more then Kiryu's motivation is a lot stronger as well; Kiryu failed to save his family, but He can help Kasuga save his. It's a redemption arc for Kiryu as well.
Then Ebina finally capitulating feels a lot more earned. His whole life he believes all yakuzas are nothing more than selfish pricks, but here he faces two (former) yakuzas who has their whole life, stuck their neck out for other people's well being. His hate for Masumi Arakawa also mellows out as Ichiban emulates Arakawa too , thus Masumi can't be this big bad person he has come to believe. Just because you were a yakuza doesn't mean you're forever bad.
What we got never feels personal enough especially for Ichiban...he doesn't even seem to care that much about Akane, just Ichiban saving the world because Ichiban is a hero.

Emotional ending with Ichiban trying to redeem Eiji and carrying him on his back like a brother. A very nice message.
Too bad that they had to show Daigo, Saejima and Majima in the game for absolutely no reason other than for the players to see them in it fight them in it, because they're popular. But they really served no purpose at all.

    • @primalgamer34
