    • @TheNamesBondJamesBondJames
      @TheNamesBondJamesBondJames 4 месяца назад

His healing has nothing to do with it. The reason the ash is fading from his skin is most likely due to him coming into servitude as a god of war, again. But this time it's for a good cause. Redemption. Him being revered & worshipped as a good god & living up to that title plays a huge part in it. The fact that Kratos is coming into servitude & being worshipped is what signifies his redemption & that's counteracting with his curse. Kratos accepting his past sins, embracing who he is, redeeming himself, servitude, being worshipped is what the DLC was all about. Hope. That is why the ash is fading.

He’s slumped back with his fist resting on his chin. But the current Kratos sits with a firm dedication and maturity that shows he is fully ready to take on the responsibilities that entail being the God of War.

Or *the* Macuahuitl, rather.
Gemini herself is a tall, monstrous multi-headed woman whose heads are slowly dying off.
She enforces the One Law throughout the land, which is an important part and theme of the story. It goes that anyone can challenge one another before a physical altercation to a game of dice, called The Ritual.
You offer up an Artifact, you and the opponent roll your dice on a circular leather mat divided in four quadrants, and then take turns placing modifiers that affect the dice. Often based on proximity, a circular range, or a straight line.
The one with the highest score at the end wins and gets to spend their Artifact. The consequence of this can be stuff like making the opponent drink poison, be chased by bees and stung if he keeps standing still, get tethered to a small pole by a rope tied to their ankle, or be bound to a Pact Artifact and can then be summoned in a later fight through a Summon Artifact.
Gemini's Prime Artifact is simple as fup. She gets a free first hit.
Most Zenos, the inhabitants of the world, are quite sturdy and rarely if ever does anyone truly get killed. But the local merchant Eo explicitly states that one hit from the Macuahuitl is enough to almost kill anyone.
Clash: AoC is pretty small in scale and grandeur compared to GOW, but still very much a story worth experiencing with solid gameplay. Not talking exclusively about the Ritual, which is almost fully optional, but about the 3D melee combat as well, with different combat stances and attacks to switch between.
And I reckon that this importance around a Macuahuitl within a fictional setting may have made you quite happy.

@@carpeimodiem Got you! Considering the caveat of time management that you describe, and thus game *movies* more specifically making a better time for you, the suggestions i could give get shortened down a bit.
(Writing this as i've almost finished my comment: I've written this all from the assumption you mainly look up cutscene videos rather than gameplay videos of a full game. And be warned, the comment's a biggun)
I think Clash: Artifacts of Chaos may count. It's got a similar perspective to Norse Era GoW, but is set in a prehistoric fantasy world full of sapient monsters and rarely a human in sight.
Great art direction and design, well voice-acted too and really incredible music.
Story's about a martial artist hermit named Pseudo, who comes to take a boy under his care after a mercenary for the local tyrant killed the Boy's grandfather. So now he tries to help the boy find a new safe home or a caretaker, but the tyrant's mercenaries are a recurring threat.
(At different instances in the game, you can hear a mercenary talk about their reasonings why they do what they do, provided you don't have their attention yet).
Pseudo and the Boy's story doesn't have a lot of big conversation moments like in GoW, but the moments together that they do have are good and heartening stuff. Some philosophical musings between the two as well.
No Straight Roads is very good as well, being set in a world where music powers the city the game is set in and said city is divided in different districts governed by a different artist-- all of which are under employ of the main record label.
Very colorful, cartoonish, characters are representations of why people make music and shows different downsides of music as an industry.
It's at first shown as a Rock vs EDM type thing, but the game itself bleeds love to music as a whole.
Perhaps... Soulstice. I'm placing an asterisk with that one.
Soulstice is a character action/hack-and-slash type game that has a lot of cutscenes, and there's some optional dialogues with the merchant character that expand upon the world beyond what we get to see. General throughline is a "save the world/prevent calamity" type deal, but the lead protagonists are sisters of each other, with one of them being dead and the other carrying a huge boatload of baggage over it.
Reason for the asterisk is that the "in-the-mind" memory segments, and aforementioned chats with the merchant (if you can find a video that included them), don't have a lot that is visually interesting going on. Otherwise, the presentation, cinematography and cutscenes are super well done, especially for being the first real *big* game by its respective dev studio.
Others I would have recommended would have included the games by Ska Studios (Charlie Murder and The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile) and Cookie Cutter. But Ska Studios' games are much more focused on action than story, played well in short bursts, with in Charlie Murder's case the story being clarified through other means than cutscenes.
And Cookie Cutter's not actually out yet. That one's a deliberately over-the-top, irreverent, at times edgy cyberpunk/sci-fi metroidvania about an android named Cherry on a quest to save her beloved from a perverse tyrannous maniac, set on a world surrounded by a sapient energy source.
But it seems like not all cutscenes are voice acted (some side NPCs for example have no voice acting) which the dev hopes to undo with enough sales.
There are some philosophical musings, such as Cherry and her companion Regina discussing what gods are and why humans have them, are based on an instance from a two-year old demo. So for all its over-the-topness it does seem like it wants to offer some food for thought as well.
Even if the games mentioned here may not be up your alley, i hope there's interesting bits to them for you and that you may spread word on them.
*ALSO! The Darksiders games may prove interesting in terms of game movies. Especially Darksiders 1 seems to be strong in cinematography. 2 less so, but not a bad story by any means. (main character Death in 2 has a bit more sass than War from Darksiders 1). 3 is a bit divisive, seems to be somewhere between 1 and 2 in terms of quality of their cutscenes. Does have a great scene of Fury confronting the Deadly Sin of Lust, in a way that isn't reduced to being mainly sexual desire.
And there's also Darksiders Genesis. Cutscenes are more like animatics, though well-drawn and great voice acting. And each level has one more intimate conversation between the two playable Horsemen (War and Strife) about their current mission, their place in it, and how they view themselves.
As those happen somewhere within the level, they're not nearly as interesting to look at. From that view, Darksiders Genesis and 2 may generally be more enjoyable for you to listen to while working, rather than making time to actually look at what happens. But i can't say for sure.
Also also, the Lords of Shadow games. Yet again greatly voice acted, and 1 has each chapter introduction narrated by Patrick Stewart's character from a storybook. Cutscenes are generally good too, but the Patrick Stewart narrations may prove nicer to just have up in the background while doing something else.
2's story has no narrations, does have great voice acting and good cinematography, but the story's generally not held in nearly as high regard as 1's. I personally liked it, but there are confusing elements to it. Though yet again, like with Darksiders 3, very strong moments as well.
Very big comment on my end, apologies for it taking up a lot of your time, but if you took the time to read through it all: Thank you very much for doing so. Yet again i hope the games mentioned here may at the very least prove interesting, even if they're not fully up your alley, and hope you may share word of them to people that you think may find them neat. Especially Clash: Artifacts of Chaos, Soulstice and Cookie Cutter.

I think coming to terms with his past made this dlc one of the most heartwarming feelings ever and it finally gave a good end note to who kratos truly is. I wish they would have said the reason why he should be God of war again is because war is not his first resort anymore it is not a threat but a promise it is not tyranny but duty. Thankyou for making a character that has grown with allot of us ❤

Kratos feeling genuine remorse over what he did to the Boat Captain and for everyone else on the doomed fleet is actually nice. I've always felt that the Boat Captain & passenger's deaths were just so unnecessarily cruel & nihilistic, even comparing it to the consequences of Kratos' actions in GOW3. Its good to know that Kratos truly does have a conscience and didn't just forget about the first onscreen casualties in the series.

Hades would've made sense to show up, Hades had actual, legit grievances with Kratos, regardless of context, Hades had done absolutely nothing wrong towards Kratos, but Kratos basically wrecked everything Hades cared about, all Hades was doing, even while infected with the evils of the Box, was taking revenge for all the wrongs Kratos had committed towards him.

I watched the GOW and GOW:R game movies from here, and seeing this one is just as good as those were. Christopher Judge gives Kratos so much depth, so much soul, emotion, even with things as simple as an affirming grunt or his speech there at the end of Valhalla...There's raw feeling in everything said and done. He did Kratos justice.

    • @hagamapama
      @hagamapama 5 месяцев назад

He didn't just do Kratos justice. He and the scriptwriters gave us the perfect quintessential Kratos. Still who he always was, but now with wisdom of experience and loved ones around him to help him not sink into his former depths.

This dlc was such a love letter to everyone who grew up with this series. Most of us were kids when we started playing this game. Now the same bunch of us have families and responsibilities of our own. It’s almost like a good chunk of us have matured with Kratos all these years. Most of the series and franchises I’ve stayed attached to started feeling worn and old but man I could eat this up forever I think.
