  • Congratulations! You’ve been selected for an interview and now you’ve been asked to select an interview timeslot. Which one do you pick?
    In a perfect world, any slot should suffice because all interview candidates should be given equal consideration for a role. However, this doesn’t always happen.
    You can set yourself up for the most success by using a powerful psychological concept to your benefit: primacy and recency effects. How does this relate to interviewing? You can set yourself up for success by being one of the most memorable interview candidates - the first or the last.

    Recently I had an interview at 4:30pm, which was the last meeting of the day for my interviewer. It was probably one of the worst experiences I’ve had.
    The interviewer was visible tired and didn’t pay attention. Their day was also booked back to back with meetings and I came in last. 😢

    I usually say: I am not available for the following time and available for any other time. What do you think about that? I noticed that even though I reply within an hour of receiving offered interview times, and they had times available during the entire week, they assign to me the time on the last day that week reserved for interviews.

      I'm not quite sure what you mean, but if they've assigned you a time and you are unavailable, most recruiters or interviewers will be flexible. Sometimes they can't but most of the time they will!

    As a person without experience in position, but experience in the field, is there a better time frame?

    • @LifeWorkBalance

      I don't think so. You still want to do your due diligence to prepare for the interview to demonstrate your transferable skills, even if you don't have experience in the exact position. That prep work shouldn't be impacted by the time frame.
      Selecting an interview slot is really more about strategically selecting the time to help you be most memorable to the interviewers, in addition to standing out DURING your interview. If you and 3 others have incredible interviews, but you are interviewing first or last, then your chances of being more memorable than the other 3 people is slightly higher due to the primacy and recency effects.

    I have one tomorrow 3 PM. They gave me that time, no other choice

      That's okay - sometimes they do exactly that: give you a time rather than let you select a time. You have no control over that, so now do what you can to prepare and show your uniqueness to stand out!

    What are your thoughts on selecting a time slot right after lunchtime?

    • @LifeWorkBalance
      @LifeWorkBalance  Месяц назад +1

      I think that's a good slot to select, though people may start to get a little sleepy because of digestion kicking in, but they won't be as distracted or low energy as the slots at the end of the day or right before lunch!
