  • In June 2013 the U.S. National Institutes of Health announced it would retire most of the federally owned chimpanzees used in biomedical research in the country. This left about 310 chimps in need of relocation. More than a hundred of those chimpanzees have found a home in Louisiana's Chimp Haven, where they will live out the rest of their lives in retirement.

    It is nice to see them being treated well, but it is also sad. One wonders how damaged some of them are psychologically if they wall walk, etc.

    • @bookbabe001
      @bookbabe001 9 лет назад +10

      Yes, it's sad all around, but some of them looked just utterly broken, like the one towards the end with maybe 1 or 2 teeth, I can't imagine the suffering to which they've been subjected, and I can't believe they interact with humans at all, now,

      bookbabe001 I think if the continue to use chimps for ground breaking science it should be limited to a certain time period only like no more than three years then retire. We need laws for protect all earthlings. We are the higher species we need to begin to act as caretakers

      @@prettyblackdragon2498all testing on chimps and using them for lab animals has been banned by Congress in 2015. That's why these sanctuaries were built so they would be able to have a place to live out the rest of their lives with some dignity.

  • @prettyblackdragon2498

    Thank you for offering them retirement it's one thing to use them for groundbreaking research but it's the only decent thing to do to allow them to retire after and thank you very much. Every animal deserve this opportunity after giving human service in a lab

      All those makeups you use, cleaning products, medicine, vaccines the list goes on and on and on that you would not have if it wasn't for chimpanzees being used it's something that had to be done to keep us safe and healthy. Go look at the bright side they banned all of that now and all of those chimps have been retired to live in these sanctuaries to be with other chimpanzees and live their lives out in dignity. So it's not all bad

      They accept donations, no matter how small. Perhaps you have some sheets or blankets that you want to get rid of--they will accept them, because the chimps make a nest 2 times A-day.. Any small amount can be donated needed to that sanctuary or any others such as Save the Chimps, Project Chimps, or Chimp Sanctuary Northwest. Many of them also have an Amazon wish list it's list that you can purchase a small item for at Christmas time period finally there is something called Amazon Smiles. If you sign up for it, every time you make an order from Amazon, a percentage will be donated to the organization of your choice. That's not any additional funding. It's simply making the purchases you would make anyway

    • @LindaC616
      @LindaC616 2 года назад

      They can be really destructive, and would tear apart a pillow and pull out the stuffing to make a nest. Most sanctuaries give chimps blankets twice a day so that they can make a nest to sleep in. They form a donut around their bodies with the blankets, if they know how. Some chimps never learned it and just prefer to sleep on the floor, but the places that need heating often have heated floors so that it's not cold.

  • @ladyfaye8248
    @ladyfaye8248 9 лет назад +3

    It is ABOMINABLE that human animals think they may use ANY other animals for ANY purpose at all.
    Human animals should experiment on themselves if they want to benefit themselves. Worst of all is that human animals choose to violate the rights of primates and other known intelligent mammals. It is criminal to do so.
    Animals ALL have EQUAL rights to the human species. Indeed, the latter have, by now, forfeited any priviledges that they took to be theirs, through their barbarian attitudes and behaviours toward Animals.
    I am ashamed to be a human being, in view of the attrocities ,dealt out by humans, to all the wonderful animals in our world, over all the millenia that we have shared on this one Earth.
    Humans have imprisoned, maimed, tortured, murdered, butchered, slain, fornicated with, used the wondrous Animals, and worse.
    It is time we all saw the light.
    I believe there may be some form of higher form of existence somewhere, somehow, who are able to see the human failure to behave respectfully toward the rest of the Animal world. I believe they have decided that enough is enough. The Animals are no longer suffering now. The 'Aliens' have intervened. And the guilty, barbarian humans will reap their just desserts.
    What? You don't buy it? Would you prefer the continued suffering? Got a better, more viable notion?
    Just a last thought. I am only concerned with whether an animal's wellbeing is compromised; whether it is in pain or suffering, if something can be done to alleviate the suffering, and stop it as soon as possible, and return the animal to comfort and joy.
    I find the whole human preoccupation with conservation as a priority, to be so wrong, where, as i see too often, otherwise well-meaning 'conservationists' actually do place the emotional and psychological welfare, and even Animals' physical wellbeing, secondary to their desire to make the species continue. THAT IS NOT RIGHT either.
    In my heart and soul, i am mindful of the needs of the precious souls and hearts of the Animals in this world.
    And Yes, i am vegetarian, pacifist, minimalist, and am educating myself as best as i can in this (horror) meat-eating hell, to be VEGAN.
    There is much more to say, but this will have to do for now.
