@Leland Joseph Correct, dream was not citizen til next Olympics.
Shaq was good, but raw. They had to choose a college player, Laettner was definitely more polished, but we all knew Shaq was going to be great. They chose the safe choice, a guy that would play the rookie like he did.
No doubt Duke, at least in the past 40 years, could field the greatest all-time team of trash talking, from affluent families, cheap shot, dirty players. C - Kyle Filipowski. PF - Christian Laettner. SF - Grayson Allen. SG - J.J. Reddick. PG - Greg Paulus.
Only Lew Alcindor, Bill Russell, and Bill Walton had equal or better college careers than Christian Laettner.
You're forgetting Grant Hill.
Oscar Robertson. Danny Manning.
I would start any college dream team with Laettner and I'm a UK Wildcat.
Why does no one ever talk about the fact that Bird was retiring and there may have been a desire to have another white star in the NBA? There was a lot of talk about the lack of white stars in the press back in those days.
Good point
Baloney there was also Stockton and Mullins
a ibrahim Yes, but there were way fewer young, white prospects at that point.
There was a lot of white stars during that time lol. How old are ya?
Surge Protector mark price, Mullen, lambeer, Kurt rambis, Craig ehlo, John Stockton etc etc. that’s the 10 seconds the top of my head to respond. Everyone acts like there was no white players but bird in the 80s.
He had a Good Pro Career.
Christian seems like a good dude but that team should have had Shaq and Isaiah.
Laettner!
