HandleGod Brice Speaking in relative terms. We’re comparing the best Olympians, and not just NBA players. Prime Melo was a good, but not GREAT 3 point shooter, like Mullin, Redd, Bird, etc
So Kobe said his squad would beat the Dream Team. A reporter told this to Larry Bird and asked what he though. Larry response “it’s possible , we are a lot older and haven’t played in a while”
The amount of defensive liabilities on the dream team makes me think they would get destroyed. Let’s face it evolution is undeniable. The redeem team would destroy them
@@javigar133 yes the spain team was really good, but comparing them to the dream team they would be like the worst team in the wnba while drem team be like the best team in nba
@@midorimashintaro2613 I mean sure they’d make 3’s but where’s the fun in that? The league before was far more entertaining when everyone wasn’t shooting 3’s, I still enjoy watching curry play, but that was cuz he was specifically a shooter, and now everyone be shooting 3’s which just makes the league more boring now
Michael Jordan said it best when Kobe and LeBron said that the 2012 team will beat the 1992 team: Remember now, they learned from us. We didn't learn from them.
Careful kobe might not talk to one for a couple weeks and then drop 81 honestly I think Bron would make the difference magic is great but not Bron great
Scottie Pippen would be starting and guarding Lebron, not Bird. but lets not poo poo 1992 Larry Bird, he still could put the hurt on when needed, and avg over 20 ppg that year
@@LeviDavidSchaffer not quite. he retired about 10 days after they won the gold medal. so he played the 1992 season in the NBA, then played for the dream team that summer. then retired from the NBA after the gold metal game
That's what I was going to say Scottie would guard LeBron and smother him to death and then I'd switch up with putting Karl Malone on him at certain times. The matchup to see would of course always be Michael vs Kobe
He needed to explain to younger viewers why Larry Legend wouldn't just torch their entire team. If Larry and Magic were also in their prime, they are just the better versions of the redeem team.
I would have Stockton, Jordan, pippen, Malone and Robinson as starters for the dream team. All 5 in their prime and with Jordan and pippen as bulls teammates and Stockton and Malone as jazz teammates 2 of the greatest duos of all time. Stockton pretty much would feed the ball to Jordan and Malone 2 of the greatest scorers and well talking about defense that’s five of the greatest defensive players you’ll see with Robinson blocking balls and 3 of the all time steal leaders with Mj and Stockton and pippen and Malone as 2 great lockdown defense. I got this starting line up in a sweep. Their is no way they are loosing a game agains the redeem team.
Great analysis, I too believe the 92 Dream Team would win in 6 games. The bigs on the DT would be too much to handle. Now if both teams were in their prime, I’d say DT in 5. Prime Larry would be a game changer.
I don’t care about their prime, it’s 4 regardless. Pippen is absolutely shutting down young Lebron. Magic is not letting CP do anything. MJ and Kobe would go hard. Robinson vs Howard? The whole time, no one’s stopping Barkley. When Stock and Malone comes in, it’s a wrap, game over. The problem is each player is a copy of a better more experienced player. You got lil MJ, Lil Stockton, You got Baby James and Pippen ain’t having that. Who is out shooting Bird? Dwight is truly going to get bodied by Robinson, Malone, and Ewing is going to intimidate all except Kobe. Carmelo is my guy, but Pippen ain’t having that either. Did I mention Magic yet? What are we doing? The IQ test reveals the Redeem team getting blown out because they were dominate physically which meant exhaustion. The DT was so effortless, they passed the ball like everyone wanted to get the most assists and watch the other show out. RT would have jumped higher moved faster, but not faster than the ball movement of Bird, Magic, Stock, MJ. Baby Shaq could jump out the gym, but he wasn’t going to keep out jumping Robinson and Ewing. And again, who was going to stop the round mound? He was 6’7 to be generous and no one on his own team could slow him down. Not Ewing, Robinson, Malone, maybe Pippen his teammate. As soon as Kobe or Lebron come off their man, their whole team gets abused like prostitutes. Howard will easily find himself banging and trying to front too many bigs in that, he will be out of position all game. If you watched, you saw a bunch of old men barely breathing hard and the RT tired sweaty and aggressive. The father and and son bull analogy comes to mind. Son speaks-“Dad, let run down their and catch a cow to fuck!” Dad replies- “ son let’s walk down and fuck them all.” Save your energy and don’t scare them, they’ll bend over instead of running away. LoL. I kinda switched the words a bit
The dream team would win fairly easily imo. If for no other reason than the big guys. Everything else is matched up pretty evenly but once you get to the PFs and Cs these teams aren't even in the same world.
Barkley had more points and shot well from 3 I remember trying to watch every game but it was hard to watch them for some reason back then I cant remember why but anyway Barkley played great but I wouldnt say outplayed Jordan. Jordan was doing alot more of the little things like Jordan always did. Barkley did well scoring and rebounding. I'm not taking away from Barkley I'm just helping those who didn't get to see know a little better what happened. I'm sure theres games on youtube tho if we search.
@@mcmorelane3818 youre not seriously picking them to win against Stockton and Malone combo with Ewing at center AND Bird and Drexler rounding out the five.
I don't think the redeem team is a better roster but I think a team today with Curry, Harden, Lebron, Durant and Davis. With Lillard, Klay, Kawhi, Tatum, George, Paul and Zion off the bench would be more interesting. Realized that there's like no even respectable American centers today to have in this conversation so this team would have to be running and shooting alot of 3s. A group of Americans will never be as good as the Dream though, maybe if able to add guys internatiomal players like Giannis, Jokic, Doncic, Embiid and Gobert would make it alot more interesting.
@Jesus Saldana They have true centers waiting in the paint though physical skilled and athletic bigs tougher than prime Dwight Howard that gave LB problems
Berkley an Malone would knock the hell out of LeBron an he don't have the heart to take a beating night after night so he would be not driven the ball down the lane he be more of out side player only 2 players would be serious threat would be Bryant an Wade night in an night our
Everyone goes on about the redeem team. But doesn't anyone remember the 96 Dream Team? That consisted of half of the 92 Dream Team, plus the current all star players at the time. They were pretty badass! I would pick the 96 Dream Team over the Redeem Team.
What made the Dream team work was their ability to play together. All other dream teams were personalities and not team work. The 1992 Dream team will always be the best there ever was
Consider: Malone, Barkley, Robinson and Ewing had NO equals on the redeem team - they would feast and the game plan could easily be changed for them to feast. They would feast offensively and defensively - they were tougher. Barkley feasted during the Olympics. Defensively, Stockton, Pipen and Jordan would feast and channel them right into Robinson and Ewing who were great shot-blockers - Robinson being one of the best ever. Malone was more muscular and physical than ANY on the redeem team. He was a beast. The drawback for the Dream Team was really Bird being injured and Magic coming back from retirement. Otherwise it wouldn't be much of a competition because Bird was a bad, bad man and incredible team leader and so was Magic! The Redeem Team would have to resort to long distance shooting with a hand in their faces over great defenders.
Theyd destrrrroy. None of the redeemers are used to taking their vaunted 3 pointers while being pressured by the defence. Poor lambs wouldnt know what hit em
I don’t get how you would contradict yourself with saying Bird was one of the top 3 players on the Dream Team but would be a handicap for them. As it was, he wasn’t heavily played, Pippen would be the player to gauge against. And the redeem team had Jason Kidd, he’s taken more teams to the finals than Chris and Deron combined. They had to call him back after the U.S. lost without him in later years. Magic and Stockton would still handle him, but he’s ahead of the others.
Yup Kidd and Barkley should have been talked about a lot more for their respective teams. I remember quite a few dream team games where I thought Barkley was the best player on the floor.
You’d also have to give the 92’ team the physical trainers and supplements of 2008. This adds life and years to the aging Dream Team players. - Imagine Bird and Magic with today’s rehab PT.
Why do people obsessed with the past always give the old players the current player's abilities, nutrition and so on but never give the new players the old school mentality when they try to compare the eras? These players are better, not necessarily greater but they are far more skilled, much faster and far more athletic. I love the Dream team but they're too slow and unathletic to keep up with the redeem team
@@BooHefner - Wait…who’s “obsessed” with anything. - I’m a firefighter and I understand how much the supplements and modern training equipment in every fire station affects the fitness of todays workforce. It’s just easier to stay in shape longer today than it was 40 years ago.
Definitely a sweep with huge margins. How can someone bet on the redeem team if they had hard time with Spain????????? Comon, it doesnt take a high school grad to understand that. Not unless you have a logic like those with a flat earther
@@drow27 international basketball has developed since 1992. There are a lot of talents outside the US. I still believe the dream team would win just coz they have Jordan.
I would love to see the match up of MJ vs Kobe and Pippen vs Lebron, but the slaughter of Barkley on Bosh/Boozer would be all that would be talked about
@Greg A no defensive player can completely shut down a great like LeBron. That's why, even when Kawhi won Finals MVP, LeBron still scored 28 ppg (though the defense was ofc more effective than that stay shows). Scottie would give him trouble but I wouldn't doubt LeBron's genius and talent to figure something out since he's much more than a scorer. Imagine LeBron playmaking to Kobe and Durant, and the lobs to Howard.
Best players on the Dream Team were: Jordan, Pippen and Barkley. Also the Dream Team played man-to-man more and pressure defense this is something that the Redeem team isn't as used to. Also Karl Malone is the second or third hardest worker in NBA that I have ever witnessed.
Donnie Pate You’re a horrible person I don’t care if you don’t think Kobe was a good basketball player but he’s a human being, what you are saying is disrespectful to his memory. The man died with his daughter that day, think about what you say.
I remember those olympic games, I was a teenager. I clearly remember there was a US player who was sweeping the game and leading the US team in many aspects. I didn't know anything about this player because most of us in Spain only knew Magic, Bird, Jordan, Ewing... That player was Charles Barkley.
I mean the redeem team had a lot of young talent with less experience. Kobe and Jordan were the same age (29) on their respective teams, so it would be cool to see that matchup if nothing else
The more and more 90s basketball i watch, the more i realized how underrated some of these players were, particularly Stockton! Although his career was shorter than most, it was a powerhouse.
@@Chuck999Norris Against the true era of big men, an era Dwight never played in? Dwight would be a 4 in the 90s. Robinson and Ewing would eat him alive. They were much larger men and just as strong and their athleticism was nothing to be sniffed at and their skill was elite level and they both could shoot and hit free-throws.
@@raurman4946 You're funny. Many skinny guys dominated the 90s like Penny Hardaway. These eras are fast, LeBron will bulldoze them like a runaway train
First, we will never know. Second the game has evolved players have evolved. U rarely fucking see 6'8 6'9 players move as fast and jump as high as players now. Oh what about the physicality? If that redeem team will face the dream team on rules they are accustomed to of course they have the advantage.
125-100, Dream Team over Redeem Team, on average. The bench players would dominate and be the main cause for the large differential. Plus....Jordan in his prime? He would want to embarrass his opponents. The spread would likely be -12 in favor of the Dream Team, but I honestly believe they cover that most nights. Dream Team in 5!
No way the Dream team is allowing 100 points. The defensive players, controlling the boards, the 2 best tempo controlling PG's. They don't give up a hundred.
Yes! People are forgetting how DOMINANT Charles was in 1992. Forget that Bird was a shell of himself; he didn't have to be great with Charles dominating scoring and rebounding.
Scalping Forever I would take Barkley Over any nowadays player in a fraction of a hearbeat. Also I would take him Over any redeem players (sorry Kobe, much respect for you and your legacy). Barkley nowadays would dominate with his speed, skill, strength and b-ball wisdom. 3point were a last resort back then, players were capable of shooting, but the coach will bench them is they abuse that play. Barkley could shoot, pass and defend very well no doubt. today he would be in GOAT talks. But he was playing in an era were they had strong and skill players and they played rough, no like ballerina
Giorgio 510 I would agree, but you do also have to realize, statistics, and computer simulated matchups wouldn’t account for 1 thing. That thing being WILLPOWER. It would be very close between the two teams to determine which is better since willpower has historically made trash players like Jeremy Lin turn into freak athletes.
@@501jaylee so what does statistics and computer generated matchups have to do with anything??? What's the reason for bringing any of that up? All that shit seems pretty fucking stupid to me for you to bring any of it up. The original dream team were made of not only stars, but stars with very high IQs that KNOWS how to play team ball with each other without any coaching. They're all dominant players that are more rugged except for Kobe bcuz he played in part of that era. But that WILLPOWER you're speaking of ain't gonna help cuz the original dream team plays with a chip on their shoulders that may also be recognized as WILLPOWER
They didn't exactly play inspired ball in the Olympics, but they're the most underrated team in USA basketball history. This was still the era of big men, and that team had Shaq, Hakeem, Robinson, Barkley, and Karl Malone.
'92 Dream Team is the greatest basketball team of ALL Time and no one would ever stand a chance. Too much talent too much chemistry too much intensity.
I think you *can* do it primarily because the ‘92 team only had 11/12 HOF players so *if* you took the top 12 NBA players right now or in the early 2000s you can make a very solid case, but the chemistry HAS to be there
I am the biggest Bird fan you'll ever talk to and I will ALWAYS say that 1984-86 Bird was the best player I've ever seen; but to say he was a top 3 player in 1992 is not true... Bird did not even make an all-NBA team in 92 and didn't play in the all-star game due to injury. Malone, Robinson, Barkley, Ewing, Drexler, Pippen, Mullin, and Stockton were all more productive in 1992. I'd take the massive front court advantage of the Dream team as they could still match-up with redeem on the wings.
Exactly he wouldn’t be in the convo or playing because he was sidelined due to back injuries. Isiah Thomas should have been in there instead of Larry but politics kept him out.
- The video creator said Bird was coming off the bench for his Dream Team. (Bird was a TOP 3 in the 80s but for This fictional matchup, he is coming off the bench).
Dream Team in a sweep. MJ and Pippen would never come off the floor. You have to remember that the only reason the bench players saw as many minutes as they did in the Olympics was due to the lopsided scores. Michael Jordan would take this matchup more personally than any Finals series. That spells doom for everyone else.
@Macus Alexander Liew This is one of the most delusional statements I've ever heard, about any subject. Today's players lack the skill 90's players had due to the soft rules. Simply put, it is much easier to shoot and get to the basket in today's game. the Dream Team was better skilled, had more top 10 players, and played more physically. It's a good thing this match never happened or Lebron's GOAT ambitions, though still not possible, would have been laid to rest.
You forgot one key thing, the top 3 for the Dream Team wouldn’t be Magic Larry and Mike. Like you said, they weren’t in their prime. They would be Barkley, Jordan, Pippen.
Benjamin Kelly yea he lost credibility off the claim lol I couldn’t watch any more In my mind “did this guy just say magic and birds dominated the 90s?” lmao they were done by 92
@Antonio Jackson Yup. And Patrick also let's you setup a half court game and get the other bigs in foul trouble with his slow developing fade away, and he usually got it to fall and then made the free throw.
Kobe at this point in his career was probably either as good as Jordan or as close as anyone will ever get. They would cancel each other out. I think the Bulls players wouldn´t be the deciding factors, but the DT´s depth would.
@@datmadapuka441 kawhi leonard is basically the same level defender as pippen and lebron dropped 28 ppg on him in the finals. scottie wouldnt limit shit AND people seem to forget scottie only averaged like 15 ppg for his career. lebron would shut his ass down completely pretty much making him a 1 dimensional player at best

Just saw this today. I agree and think your analysis is spot on. However I’d like to add this. Can you imagine Kobe vs mj prime to prime? Kobe and mj both would elevate to superhuman levels to one up each other and I would love to see that. Kobe and his 81 point game, 62 points in 3 quarters, 9 straight 40 plus point games against mj’s flu game, 60 plus against the Celtics in the playoffs, 30ppg career average, 50% plus fg. @@somerandomguy3037 I'm not saying Pippen would stop him. But he would impact his numbers, definitely. My point was that Pippen is the better man for the job, compared to Bird.
The Redeem Team’s X-factor is Kobe. Because Wade, Lebron, Dwight and Melo were all part of that team that lost to Greece in the 2006 Fiba World Championships Semi Finals. That being said, Dream Team all the way.
if i hear you right , the two greatest two way players in the history of the N B A , the two greatest power forwards in N B A history , two hall of fame centers , the two greatest point guards in N B A history , and of course the big one , the most competitive player in the history of sports , sorry my friend , NOT EVEN CLOSE !
@@davidsmith-by5nv hi david , my analysis was based primarily on the position each player played , and from various lists and opinion compiled by notable nba experts , players , coaches , sports journalist etc. if as a point guard you are at the top of the nba's all time list of both assists and steals , i.e. stockton , it's hard to argue against you , isiah was a much better all round player but that team was already loaded with legendary all round players .
1 of the most competitives in history :) he may be better player (well he IS but not by much), but i think Lary and Russell where as competitive as Jordan (cant say more couse there are all at the MAX there)
Larry Bird would be coming off the bench and playing very limited minutes in this hypothetical match up. Pippen was the starting small forward if I remember correctly. A '92 Bird was not a top 3 player on the Dream team squad. Good stuff but your match ups have to be fair in this analysis.
he said that in the end of the video. you probably comment this when the video is still going on. He said pippen will be the starting sf while bird will be in the bench although bird is likely will be switching with chris mullin.
What was the point of putting Bird in the "three primary players" analysis? Bird clearly was way past his physical best, though he could still shoot, pass and rebound when his back let him get onto the floor. Magic was still terrific though (looked like a million bucks in the 92 all star game) and I don't think he got enough credit in this video. The only player on the Redeem Team that could guard him is LeBron and that would really throw off their rotation. If you're being fair, the three best players on the Dream Team are probably Jordan, Barkley, and Pippen (Robinson would also be in the running). Barkley was absolutely unstoppable in the international game. He shot 70% from the field and 80% from three point range in the Olympics which are cartoon numbers. Pippen was at the height of his powers in 1992 and doesn't get near the credit he deserves for how awesome a two way force he was. He would give LeBron fits and could also cover Kobe on switches. Kobe Bryant in 2008 was at the peak of his game and would give Michael a very hard time. Anybody who thinks peak Kobe wasn't one of the greatest in basketball history is just blinded by either love for Jordan or hate for Bryant. Yes, I believe peak Jordan is slightly better, but only slightly. I view the matchup of Jordan and Drexler versus Wade and Kobe as the most intriguing and believe it to be the most even. Four of the top five two guards in the history of the game, all in their primes. Slight edge to the Dream Team here. Center is Dream Team all the way. Although Dwight was playing very well at that stage of his career, he was the best of a weak era of centers and really is undersized for a classic center. He relied mainly on his athleticism and defensive timing. But he's not a better athlete than either of the players he'd be facing and is giving away size as well. He had a tough time guarding Shaq when O'Neal was at the end of his career and a shadow of his former self. He never could carry a team offensively. David Robinson and Ewing were both in their primes and the combination of the two of them would be too much for Dwight, who would probably end up in foul trouble. The advantage clearly goes to Dream Team. Point guard goes to Dream Team also in my opinion. Jason Kidd was 35 years old at the time and Magic was a better player at that point in his career despite missing the 92 season. Magic as mentioned above would be a matchup nightmare. Stockton, though, is possibly the best point in history not named Magic or Oscar. He's better than Paul by a solid margin. He's also considerably better than Deron Williams. Power forward is all Dream Team. Barkley and Malone are hands down better than anybody the Redeemers have. Small forward is the only area where the Redeem Team has a case, but Mullin and Pippen for me give you nearly as much as Carmelo and LeBron. Pippen would hound James all over the court and Mullin would feast on Anthony's lackluster defense. I still think the advantage slightly goes to the Redeem team because James would be a force and Anthony would still get buckets, but that's the only roster spot where they're arguably better. Dream Team could lose a single game, but in a best of seven probably wins 4-1 or 4-2.
It wasn't that Bird didn't need to play minutes, it's that he couldn't at that point. His back was killing him and he was basically finished as a player. He wasn't the guy in the history video anymore. He couldn't move out there. He retired after the Olympics because he knew he couldn't do it anymore. Go back and watch some games from the 91-92 Celtics season. When he could even play (only 45 games that year), Bird had trouble guarding even mid-tier NBA talent, let alone LeBron and Carmelo of the Redeem Team. He could still shoot and get rebounds, but on the other end he was a complete liability. It's too bad, because Bird at his peak was a terrific defender. His body just broke down.
I honestly am biased. I love the dream team. They are the originals. The team work and the goals seemed so much brighter than the redeem team. Statistically it would be close I'm sure, but in my heart and I believe in most fans hearts it's not even close the dream team takes it
Dream team would surely win this matchup but you just cant say it would not be close, redeem team would probably lack of muscle on the court, when it comes to talent both are the same, The 2012 Olympic team has the better chance in beating the dream tho
The Dream & Redeem team have nothing on "The Regime team" Starting 5= Luke Walton, Lavar Ball, Kwame Brown, Jeremy Linn, and Denzel Washington because he beat Ray Allen in the movie "He Got Game"
Sir Osis true but you would think that if you wanted to represent the US you can if your good enough. You know who they also could’ve added is Shaq, yes he was young at the time but still dominant on the Magic
Top 10 Sports I see your point. Hakeem was my favorite center when I was growing up and some say he was closer to 6’ 10 than 7’ so that makes him even more impressive but I do understand the Olympic committees decision to want people to be an actual citizen of the country they represent. Laettner got on only because he was NCAA player of the year. My friends and I were all bummed that it wasn’t Shaq but I think the thought process was that the 12th man (the one college add on) wouldn’t get much playing time anyway so it really didn’t matter who they added.
Stopped watching when you doubled down on putting Bird in the best three on the Dream Team. Coach Daly himself said Barkley (you know the NBA MVP that season) was the best player on that team other than Jordan. Also, any comparison giving the ‘08 team a chance is ignoring the Jordan factor. To start, Jordan’s college Olympic team wiped the NBA all-stars in ‘84. Jordan also never lost a finals series, and was a worthy final’s MVP 6 times. If you think prime Jordan, together with his partner Pippen, backed up by prime Barkley, and a rotation through that Dream bench is letting ANY team beat them, you’re crazy.
Thank you! Well put. I got mad respect for the players on that '08 team, especially Kobe and D-Wade, but I doubt that they would be able to cope with the defensive intensity of the Dream Team. And where would their scoring opportunities come from? That '08 would get blown into another dimension on the boards! I watched every game of that tournament in '92 (along with the PanAm tournament in Portland) and have to agree with you about Charles... he was a force of nature that year and should have been mentioned when discussing the top players. Funny you should mention coach Daly, he didn't have to do too much after he got the '92 team playing as a cohesive unit, but this is the guy that came up with nightmare scenarios for Jordan and the bulls in the late '80s. Pretty sure he would also be pivotal in creating a hellish experience for the '08 team when rotating players and dealing with matchups.
Believe it or not Barkley was not in his prime in 1992. He says in many interviews he was a better player in Philadelphia. He was MVP for the Suns, but he was much more of a force with the Sixers.
You didn't consider the biggest factor. That insane competitive nature of MJ. He would want to crush any comparisons between himself and Kobe or Lebron, like he did with Drexler. I'll call it a gentleman's sweep for the Dream Team. Barkley was also in his prime and would have been unstoppable in the post and on the glass.
While Jordan's better than Kobe there's not a huge gap between the two if they're both in their primes. Jordan would definitely have to bring his A+ game to expose his slight advantage over Kobe in his prime. No one's dominating either of these great players in their primes.
@@greatray6262 It wasn't considered to be much of a gap at all between Jordan & Drexler either, until people started making the comparison and then MJ had the opportunity to show a difference on the court heads up. I believe MJ would do likewise if matched up with Kobe in his prime. Even as an old man on the Wizards Mike competed hard with prime Kobe. I believe the gap is bigger than you put on. And would be made apparent to the world if MJ felt his legacy was in question.
@@lainiwakura4678 I don't care if its MJ or anybody else... it's certain people in the game that you just can't stop... and LeBron and Kobe would terrorize the dream team. Carmelo Anthony was a savage then to... idc who you are... You not stopping that.

At that range MJ, Drexler, and even Barkley would become viable threats. Let alone Bird, Mullin, and Stockton. I just don't see a scenario with the Redeem Team winning that doesn't include MJ & Barkley on the bench for long periods.

One thing you didn't quite touch on is teamwork - The Dream Team had Jordan/Pippen as well as Stockton/Malone. Two of the most storied pairs in NBA history. Stockton and Malone had been playing together for 8 years at that point, while Jordan and Pippen had been together for 5. Compare that to the Redeem Team, who only had Williams and Boozer from the same team, and they had only played together for 2 years. There's a level of trust and knowledge that comes from time together, especially at that level.

I think in a single game the Dream Team wins by 20+. I say this due to them all being more used to the physicality compared to the Redeem Team players, plus their ability to play together as a team. In a 7 game series, I believe the Dream Team beats the Redeem Team in 5. I think the Redeem Team steals one game based on their mentioned perimeter shooting, but as you stated, the Dream Team had some of if not the best perimeter defenders of all-time, so the Redeem Team isn't going to get away with that for long.
there are no match up here: dream team has two best players in every posistion, from pg to centers, ang 1 is the goat, 10 first ballot hall of famer, the team itself is inducted to hall of fame...
Jonny Arnett, great video work, decent analysis, and the music wasn't overpowering. Although we agree the 1992 team would defeat the 2008 squad, there are a few minor points of discord I would like to share. Of course your quote of the Dream Team's smallest win margin of 32 versus Croatia in the gold medal matchup was accurate, but their average was significantly higher at 43. Not only did the Redeem Team have a much smaller points gap (27), but in the gold medal contest, Spain made them work for three and one half quarters and lost by only 11. Conversely, the 92 team had no such contests en route to gold. The top three comparison at first glance may appear to favor the 08 team, but closer examination would show a clearer picture. MJ was of course MJ, and while Magic and Bird are clearly past their physical peaks, Johnson is still the masterful playmaker and Larry Legend would still light them up from outside in limited minutes obviously. The glaring mismatch referenced between Bird and James would be minimal if the coach allowed it to occur at all. Pippen would shut young James down or leave the task to Malone or Barkley. D. Wade, James and Kobe (a Jordan analog) were still at their peak, but in terms of overall team defense, the 1992 team had an answer for each of them (e.g. Ewing, Robinson, and MJ). Three point efficiency with the shorter FIBA line would favor both teams equally, with no distinct advantage to either group. In a manner of speaking, you alluded to as much when you briefly mentioned Jordan as a viable three point contributor (remember what he did to Portland in the 1992 NBA Finals). Coach Chuck Daly was a master at managing talent, player's egos and devising strategy, and keep in mind that although Coach Mike Krzyzewski was skilled in coaching the international game, keep in mind he was on Daly's 1992 staff. Lastly, let's discuss intangibles. No player on the 2008 team is reputed to possess the indomitable will to win to the degree of Jordan, Bird or Magic. Admittedly, Bryant comes close, and Bird or Magic are physically not up to sustaining serious on court battles, but if you're looking for someone to take a shot in the last few seconds to win, no player did it better than the 1992 team's "Big Three". Mullen, Stockton, Barkley or Pippen wouldn't be bad options in that situation either.
Good points, although I would assert that the level of international competition was lower in '92, and there was also a mental advantage since that was the first time NBA players were in the Olympics.
Dream Team would beat the Redeem Team. Pippen would guard Bron, not Larry. Dwight would have his hands full with Robinson and Ewing and would get outplayed. When Dwight came off of the floor Robinson and Ewing would feast on the less physical Bosh. Speaking of feasting, Mailman and Chuck would feast on Bosh/Boozer too. The Dream Team has better PG's. The Dream Team is far better suited for physical play. Dream Team W for sure, main deciding factor- rebounds, points in the paint. Mailman/Chuck/Admiral/Ewing would be too much. Edit: In a 7 game series I got the Dream Team in 5 or 6
Lebron has always had trouble finishing at the rim when you have true bigs in the paint. Imagine him trying to take it to the basket with Robinson, Ewing.
@@abstractdaddy1384 It's a mixture. Yeah a good big back court that can hang in the middle out muscles Lebron and almost any finisher. That doesn't mean they shut Lebron down it just means he has more trouble. Lebron has gotten to take advantage of much more open lanes during the bulk of his career so he doesn't have to deal it as much anymore. I do remember how he used to struggle muscling through Dwight when Howard was in his pre-back injury phase.
@@jamiekelley4076 Well Howard at his peak was one of the greatest rim protectors ever, so I'll give James a pass on that one. Regardless, I rewatched Thinking Basketball's greatest peaks series and it was stated in the LeBron James episode that he was the greatest finisher ever. That's proof enough for me. (If you haven't seen that series I highly recommend it).

I would have Stockton, Jordan, pippen, Malone and Robinson as starters for the dream team. All 5 in their prime and with Jordan and pippen as bulls teammates and Stockton and Malone as jazz teammates 2 of the greatest duos of all time. I think the redeemers would steal one game after the Dream Team relaxed a little realizing that they were gonna' take the series. Dream Team in 5.
Great analysis, I too believe the 92 Dream Team would win in 6 games. The bigs on the DT would be too much to handle. Now if both teams were in their prime, I’d say DT in 5. Prime Larry would be a game changer.
4 games, not 6
Yep the Dream Team wins in their prime in 4! At their age I think it’s would be 4-1!
Prime larry legend would be a menace on the court

All of them played extremely well even when they are off ball.

I don’t get how you would contradict yourself with saying Bird was one of the top 3 players on the Dream Team but would be a handicap for them.
Do you have any Bird games on DVD?
Exactly he wouldn’t be in the convo or playing because he was sidelined due to back injuries. Isiah Thomas should have been in there instead of Larry but politics kept him out.
Stockton and MJ don’t also impress you on the wings? Lol. The comparison is a joke.
John Caparulo 💯% agreed
While I agree that Jordan is the GOAT, It's not unreasonable to think the Dream team would win at least 1 game.
Exactly! Don't forget, Jordan as a 50yr old executive was still schooling NBA guys in practices
@John Caparulo you're not wrong.

King Dino Dragonite why would he bury a main point at the end?
Larry Bird don't need play a lot min. If he play 10 to 20 min he still beat you because go back look his history video
His body just broke down.
just imagine if you could fix Larry's back for the game...
Just imagine if you could put 2012 lebron and 2006 kobe there

Laettner got on only because he was NCAA player of the year.
Exactly, and none of this is shade on Lebron and Kobe. The Dream Team is just as the name suggests.
Believe it or not Barkley was not in his prime in 1992. He says in many interviews he was a better player in Philadelphia. He was MVP for the Suns, but he was much more of a force with the Sixers.

It's rather simple, actually, Jordan doesn't lose a 7-game series with everything on the line.
I think in a single game the Dream Team wins by 20+. I say this due to them all being more used to the physicality compared to the Redeem Team players, plus their ability to play together as a team. In a 7 game series, I believe the Dream Team beats the Redeem Team in 5. I think the Redeem Team steals one game based on their mentioned perimeter shooting, but as you stated, the Dream Team had some of if not the best perimeter defenders of all-time, so the Redeem Team isn't going to get away with that for long.
