- Absolute madlad actually played the mario kart lick 2 times in a row
From: KAZUKI KATSUTA - Get Up and Go (Live in Cotton Club 2016)
Kazuki Katsuta is known for his saxophone work on Mario Kart 8 in the Dolphin Shoals and Big Blue songs and for his jazz fusion band DIMENSION.
勝田一樹 from DIMENSION Видеоклипы
his tone sounds just like in the game, incredible
That's because he made it, he's the guy who made the Mario kart sax solo
@@butteredtoast6037 ...i know. thats why i commented. its odd for a recording for a game and a live performance to sound so similar.
@@sweetegg tone and embouchure are pretty set in stone once you find something you like, but I see what you mean. Kinda cool how the recording set ups are similar
@@sweetegg Not if you play an instrument, it isn’t. Wind instrumentalists don’t have problems with endurance or straining their vocal chords the way that singers do. Provided his reeds are in decent quality there’s no reason he shouldn’t sound the same as he did in his recordings.
@@mphylo2296 probably talking about how kazuki is insanely consistent in every range to the point where one may think it was prerecorded
Wait a minute isn’t this the original guy too? 😂 So it’s probably just a lick in his Arsenal lol
Yeah it's the man himself, Kazuki Katsuta lol. I've heard the lick in other songs by his band Dimension and his solo albums from around the same time as Mario Kart 8 and after
I so thought you were me for a second, the name and colour of pfp 🤣
Pretty sure the original "mario kart lick guy" is Saxologic.
Or do you mean the guy who actually wrote it?
@@LoveGr00ve Katsuta is the guy who played it for the game's soundtrack
Glad him and his band finally get the recognition they deserve. Their early 90's albums are crazy good too.
I agree, I was a fan before Mario Kart 7
@@F0nkyNinja His work in Mario Kart was previously unknown to me. I started listening to Dimension in 2009. I think Breakout was the first song I heard. My favorite album is the second one they made. Perhaps more people can find his and his band's original music, with help of the popularity of Mario Kart.
what? It’s just a RUclips video tbh
@@seanrimada8571 Yes, but he's garnered a lot of attention from these Mario Kart related videos.
What's it called? couldn't find them on spotify.
If a lick is worth playing once, it's worth playing again, and again, and again...
bassist giving an absolute lick of a lick
that's Mitsuru Sutoh, from T-Square. KILLER musician.
The bassist is from T-square, Mitusru Sutoh
Also the drummer, Hiroyuki Noritake
we've gone full circle
@@TheBlueGoldenHawk Noritake is also featured in MK8s original soundtrack alongside Satoshi Bandoh.
@@krokkodillable yep
@@tyjuarez yup. T-Square was the inspiration for the original Mario music, and now we have this. Awesome actually.
"Dimension" Jazz fusion is one of the most underrated bands I've listened to.
i don't think they are underrated thouugh...
@@eadricng3267 They are largely unheard of if you're not japanese, or a huge fusion afficionado. I think that's what he meant with "underrated".
@@dynoroad they are still high valued musicians though. They aren't underrated. They are just not well known to the outside world.
@@eadricng3267 You are absolutely right! But the word "underrated" is in modern language often used to describe something as unknown or obscure. I would say 9 out 10, people actually mean unknown when they say underrated.
@@dynoroad I would say even most Japanese people don't know them
Love the face onozuka and sutoh make while he’s playing the “thing” 😹
One time for the fans , one time for the band!
nothing beats the OG sensei
So you’re telling me it wasn’t just Saxologic, the original player loved this lick enough to play it many times too? Excellent.
If you look at dimension's (the band katsuta's part of) other albums, they have this lick in most of their songs...
what a legend!
this is beautiful.
Sutoh (bass player) definitely knew right away 😂
I need to hear the rest of this. I'm gonna do that now.
The sound, oh my god it's so good
The way the other players look at him XD
so nice sounds
Anyone else notice how similar of a sound he has to Eric Marienthal
I think it’s a metal mouthpiece thing, they both use them
@@riptide534 both also seem to influenced heavily by Sanborn in terms of tone.
@@rillloudmother don’t mind me I’m dumb, what’s Sanborn?
@@riptide534 David Sanborn, alto sax player.
@@riptide534 its not the mthpc, but the player
Sweet I have new music to listen to now!
How good can a video loop
He’s the original creator of that lick y’all! The whole band was actually some of the studio musician for Mario Kart 8’s soundtrack
was a fan before mario kart :)
Props to you, man. I hadn't heard of him or Dimension until the 8 bit music theory video on the Dolphin Shoals solo
TBF the whole band is made up out of legends
I've not heard of the other guys. So I google Akira Onozuka, and on the first hit that's him, it's an album where he plays along the likes of Leland Sklar, Luis Conte and Michale Landau. I guess I'm checking these guys out.
Savage!
Huh. I've been watching the more competitive videos with stuff like this lately.
So I was expecting someone to be playing it at double speed!
Well you got the original guy playing it twice in a row instead lol
He is aware!
🎷🎷🎷🎷🎷🎷🎷🎷🎷
His tone is so sexy. Japanese Jazz men rule
you could say it's so... SAXY. Ok, ok, I'll leave now
@@TheBlueGoldenHawk boo
So we know why this lick so famous. T square ma man!
It sounds out of place because of how many times I’ve heard it
Those judgemental faces are too good! 😂
yoo this the og guy?? yooo i remember seeing a recording of him playing like, czardas on bari back when i was in middle school
Are you maybe thinking of the video below? I never saw it until I just looked it up, but it's not him, yet he looks a bit similar to Katsuta. I don't think I've ever seen Katsuta play anything lower than his alto

@@TheBlueGoldenHawk HAHAH yess that's it!! thanks for looking into it and informing me
Sounds like the old SNL from the 90s
Also kind of sounds like the Head on donna lee
how did you access these recordings? I cant view them because its blocked in my country on apple music (Im in the US) but even when I switch my VPN to japan it still gets blocked. if you could tell me how to access the rest of this show, or upload it, that would be very very very much appreciated!!
This is from the US iTunes, I actually got this clip just from the 30 sec preview of the Get Up and Go video. I haven’t seen the full video for this song, but I uploaded the whole video for Side Step
play it at 1.5 i goes more with the games tempo... imo
do they have a spotify?
Sounds a lot like Donna Lee
Anybody catch the audience clapping horribly off beat
Can I get the full video for this?
Yeah, it’s on iTunes. Song should be in the description. I didn’t purchase this song myself. I got this clip from the preview haha

Kazuki Katsuta is the sax player who originally made this lick from Mario Kart 8: ruclips.net/video/3rD-tdEFKlg/видео.html
@@TheBlueGoldenHawk damn, didn't even know that katsuta composed that - just wow
I just realized this was the original guy who wrote the mk lick.

is this a famous thing because its just a meme or because its a hard thing to do? or both?
What Mario Kart? None of the first 6
8, look up the Mario Kart lick vid by saxologic

"slams desk omegalul the far omegalul the fart ahahaha
Correct title would be "Katsuta Lick (which is common known from Mario Kart) :D
That’s not the Mario Kart lick 😂 that’s just jazz and fusion saxophone playing in general. It’s pretty common playing among them
