Update: I've now run them in downpour conditions on the road and they handled VERY well but need to be careful on painted surfaces (get a bit slick as expected). I've also since run them in the wet off-road to include rocks, gravel and dirt/mud and once again, they did extremely well. Three of us were running them (at least on the rear) and we were all impressed how well they hooked up on the rocks in the wet.
Great review thanks, I've had them on my R1200GS for about 1000 miles now. Like you said, not noisey on the highway, but find them a bit vibey above 75 mph, coming from Trail Attack 2's though, so different animal entirely. Agreed they are great off road and handle the twisty pavement like a champ. You wouldn' t think they were 50/50 tires on the twisties. Can't wait for this ride series. Hopefully doing the MABDR in the fall if that border opens.

I added them to my Arica twin adventure sport as soon as I got them! After much research I think it’s clear that Dunlop did there homework on this tire!
It really is a sleeper tire, most guys don’t want to like them. Everyone wants a aggressive knobby, great review!

Have about 2000 miles on them on my 790. Really enjoying them. Plenty good on the road to ride twisties aggressively and decent enough off-road to make up for my lack of dirt skills. Perfect BDR tires IMO.

have had these on a Tiger 800 XCA for about 6k kms (3.8k mi) on genuine 50/50 dirt/pavement
quality kit - does what it says on the tin and I have no doubt that the mileage claim will hold up
think the lugs works well in deep sand - managed to dig myself out of some pretty solid stalls during adv training where the sand sections are stupid difficult by design
2 lads on 1250s were on the training with me - both qualified for our local GS Challenge and both were rocking the Trailmax tyres - both were VERY impressed with traction and tracking over some gnarly stuff
rear is a little iffy in the wet IMO - TC light went disco on me when pushing along on pavement during a rainstorm but I think that was just me going stupid fast for the conditions
will definitely fit a new set of these when the current ones are done
good review and nice to have some feedback from someone who actually uses an adv bike for what it was designed for

I have 6500 on a set on my 2016 1190s, just measured the rear the other day and I have 8.5-9/32 in the middle of the tire. That is less than 5/32 of wear and not even half way worn in 6500 miles. Awesome tire so far!
Pleased with these tires on my 2012 R1200GS. Work very well on pavement, gravel and hard pack. Suspect deeper sand and mud will be a challenge. A great overall tire I think.

Have them on my KTM 390 Adventure, and they are great, have just over 10,000 km and only down 2 mm new tire was 10 mm bough front and rear. use 70 % paved road and a lot of gravel and dirt roads some of the dirt roads are more like trails than roads with huge pot holes deep ruts and mud and sand. They do handle the mud and sand pretty good. I also just put a set on my DR650 and they are a lot better in the mud with the narrower taller front wheel, have not done any deep sand yet on the DR 650 winter came to soon, I did hit some pretty deep mud on the DR650 and no problem. On the KTM 390 I got a blue jay in the chest and I went off the pavement on to some wet grass, on a sharp bend, and hard to believe how good they did, bike staid up and I just slowed down and then back on the pavement witch was about 2" higher than the grass. Dunlop hit the nail on the head with these tires.

I have them on my 2014 R1200GS and really like them. I rode the entire NM BDR on them last year and they performed very well. There was a lot of rocky terrain out there, and they were not cut up nearly as badly as the softer TKC80 tires on friends bikes. I will get another rear when this one is done, but will probably switch back to the TKC80 for the front tire for the added traction/control up front (personal preference). Overall very happy with them: Dunlop definitely did their homework!
Be interested to see how Brian likes running the Trailmax rear (putting one on for him this weekend) with the TKC80 front.

How did the TrailMax do in the sand out by White Sands Missile Range north T or C ?
Yeah, totally agree, really liked the trailmax and got 10k+ on an 850. I like the dunlop better than the Mitas e-07 that I used on the MABDR. I would have rather had the trailmax. Looking forward to your trip videos!

I installed them on my 1190 last summer, have about 4k miles and can barely tell the wear. Now with the 150 ponies with the 1190, I do release all of them from time to time. So the rear is beginning to wear. I would have been on my 2nd set of TKC 80's by now. I'm a 50/50 rider anyway and these fit me perfect. Have a WYBDR planned for summer 2023. I might change to the 80's for the trip but not sure yet. Not many rocks around Tenn. so not sure if they will grip enough to clime those rock outcrops in WY. If I had deep pockets I would buy another set of RIMS and swap out when the ride determined it. OH yea. I used the ZIP tie method for the rear mounting. I set the tires out in the sun last summer to heat up good, put about 10 huge zip ties on them to compress the walls on and with a bit of lube and a good push the tire went straight on. Only used a spoon to pop the last bit on the rim. I wish i could put some pictures here to show. Seems the plastic in the Large Zip ties act as a slider on the rim and kept the rubber from grabbing the rim until they were on. A few clips of the ties and a good yank to pull them out then just add Air. I do not have a tire mounting set up. Just as couple 2x4's and spoons to mount with.. I'm sure a good mount setup would work better but, when lacking equipment, the ties work Great.
My nephew and I put these on before our TAT trip this summer. I ride a 2017 F800GS. , my nephew a 2021 Tenere 700. My nephew Did the entire trip 10060 miles all on the same set of tires. I changed the front tire in Salt Lake City. I had 1000 miles on my set before we started. I had pre ordered a rear tire to put on in Eugene Oregon. When I got there the mechanic said no need to change my rear but the cost was same as shipping so I had the rear changed. I now have 10000 plus on my front and 8500 on my rear with 3-4K Mike’s left on both front and rear. We’re ok at best in the deep sand of Mississippi and Utah.ok in mud as well but not great. Had a flat in the rear at 85 mph and hardly noticed it I had 80lbs of gear onboard. The sidewalls are very tough. We did several of the Alpins loop passes in Colorado. Lots of good sized baby heads. Tires held up extremely well. Im staying with them until a new unicorn is made.

Great info. Tire seems to be what most adventure riders are looking for. However, the mileage numbers never workout for me. I have an 8k mile tire with 4.5 k miles on it. The tire looks great, but planning a 2.5k mile ride. Dannnng... too close for comfort. Now own a collection of half used tires.

Have them on a 790 adventure r. Have more than 7k imperial miles. It's going to at least 8k. The front is wearing at the same rate as the rear I'd say. Been tough on them especially gravel. The 150/70 18 has a center strip. Not all the way to the top of the tread. I wore down to mine around 6k. Stopping traction on the rear went to zero. I carved the center strip out with a tire shaver. It did restore the stopping traction but that has disappeared again after 7k miles. But to be expected I guess with the amount of miles. Dunlop said the center strip on the 150 was for stability. I carved it out and roughly at that. Didn't notice a change in stability. I will buy them again though.

5000 miles on mine Love the tire excellent for street light sand light mud rain twisties. When I hit the trail Motoz tractionator ADV is my favorite. I got 10K out of anake ADV I have no doubt these will get to 10K. Not a 50/50 80/20 at best. MGV85TT. All time favorite tire combination anake wild front tractionator ADV Rear. However only getting 3K out of wild.
I want a set of these on a second set of wheels for my 1290 SAR so I can keep some knobbies mounted for harder stuff.
I've thought of getting a second set of wheels but having the tire changer at the house makes it difficult to justify since I can change the tires in about as much time as it takes to swap wheels.
These tires transformed my 1290 SAR. Way better on road, no sketchiness at high-speed, but throw it through northeast dirt roads and clay they do great. Hell even babyheads weren't an issue.
Okay this video was posted 2yrs. ago. So what was the mileage you got out of the Dunlop Mission TrailMax?
I watched today. (11/17/22) Last year I did the IDBDR before heading to Prudhoe Bay. Was using Motoz Tractionater Adventure. They were EXTREMELY loud. We actually had to cut the AK part out due to road collapse in Canada, and the other guy got sick.
This year I'm going from Deadwood to Prudhoe Bay, back to NC. I'm actually hauling my HD for a week of Sturgis, them taking my 1250 GSA up to AK. Then all the way back to NC. Just over 9,000 miles. I know I'll have to get new tires when I get back to the States. I'm going to try these. My only concern is the Haul Road if it gets muddy.
Lengthy I know. Bottom line, have you any experience in the mud with these? If so, good or bad?
I’ve yet to find any DOT tire on an ADV bike does really well in the mud. That said, ridden plenty in the mud with these tires both on my 990 and 890 and haven’t had any issues. Brian runs them on his 1290 for all our ADV rides as well.
@@2WRI have 10,500 on my R12gs and I intend to leave Florida in the spring head to Belize and back up to Montana, another 5-6 thousand before replacement…
Everyone in the comments, and all the bikes in your videos were all bigger adv bikes. How would these tires feel on something like a drz400? Also how are they on wet pavement? Like if in caught in a big heavy rain storm that soaks me through to my boxers in under a minute.
Can’t say how they’d do on a smaller bike. As for wet, rode a LOT of wet pavement and off-road this past weekend. They did great on wet pavement. Only warning is do NOT touch the paint. Have to be careful coming to stops with large painted areas as they don’t bite well on the paint.
Maybe you should give the T model a break this year and just do BDR's and such on the 990 that way you could speed up the long term use on these tires.

1290 has been getting some rest. Needs a little maintenance but will have it out for a big trip this summer.
How was the mounting experience? I heard they are heavy and stiff and can be challenging to mount.
Some of the easiest I’ve ever mounted. Prior to my bike put a pair on my buddy’s 1290 (tubeless) and they went on easy too. We’ve had to fight some tires in the past but not these.

Isn't the rating 50% performance of a true road tyre, 50% performance of a knobbly? I don't think it's if you do half and half road, off road! I mean, if I rarely go off road, I won't get a 80/20 cos I want a tyre that's good on the gravel/fire tracks! So even thou my riding is 95/5% I'll probably get a 50/50 tyre😅😎
Why would you need new brakes on the rear if you barely put a couple hundred miles on the bike.... please tell me it's a used bike and not new cheap trash!!
It’s a 13 year old used bike.
Torque is the main tire killer. Continental trail attacks on gs 1250 get about 6500 to 7500 miles, put them on a KLR 650 and get 1100 to 13000. I've put them on a X300 Versys and get over 15000 miles.
