For 3$ a month, you get an extra weekly "What's UP" update video. Just for my Patrons. The Support I resave on patreon is all used on stuff to make interesting videos on RUclips.
My PlayHouse is a channel where i will show, what i am working on. I have this house, it is 168 Square Meters / 1808.3ft² and it is full, of half-finished projects.
I love working with heating, insulation, Servers, computers, Datacenter, green power, alternative energy, solar, wind and more. It all costs, but I'm trying to get the most out of my money, and my time. Наука
My biggest issue with my M93 is HEAT! Even after being re-thermal pasting it still runs scalding hot unless the cover is taken off and an additional fan is pointed at the heat sink.
I ran two faster CPU´s in mine a few years back,, for like 3 years,, no issues.
it would be interesting to see what the m92 could take in terms of cpus since its haswell era and as it has a more ineffiecent cooling setup. no idea what the designers were thinking at lenovo when they made it. they put the heatsink fins right on top of the cpu where the fan is blowing all the air outside instead of onto the heatsink like on the m93. very good way to boil the cpu
Hi @Theutmostgeek
Thank You very much! glad you liked the video :-)
Thank you for watching! :-)
@@MyPlayHouse been enjoying your videos since you did that collaboration you did with Brainiac75 :)
You could make it work by adding the CPU Microcode to the BIOS. But I would highly recommend looking at the CPU Support from Lenovo tbh.
I ran one of these with an Xeon for two years,, no issues :-)
@@MyPlayHouseIf you haven't already, would you consider making a video detailing the process?
I've used haswell xeon cpu in dell sff 3040 and worked wthout issues but without IGPU. But if i configure everything i dont need igpu
with newer one Dell uSFF 3050 i went with 65W version of i5 6500. Works awesome as a bridge server :D
ohh I did not think of that option :-)
@@MyPlayHousealthough option with installing xeon ends with haswell.
After that officially xeon will boot only with C6xx chipset only. I've tried to boot xeon on dell 3050 but without success.
Also 3050 officially supports 35w cpu but works just fine with 65w. Power draw is awesome in comparison to my main server 😅 Around 10-15w vs 150-200.
At least I'm telling myself that it's powered mostly from solar now
👍
You bet you :-)
34:30 save the money and spend it on a diy project in denmark maybe get the wood for balcony, or new windows for the summer part of the house where the server get stored.
Yes the balcony, needs rebuilding..
I normally just look at the Release Letter for the device, and pick the highest CPU listed as a configuration. But these boxes are not normally speed demons anyway!
No,, they are little convenient low noise PC´s.. but they can go faster. But Lenovo does not always update there documentation,, when a way better CPU drops in a few years later.
Hello, i been following your interesting videos for some years ago, i like to thank you beacuase i allways learn of your experiencias, thank for the time and work you take, i need a little help over here im living in spain and i remember seen in one of your videos years ago that you went to a computer parts reseler warehouse Mostly servers, im looking forward to buy in a month a half a Second hand DELL PRECISION 7760 LAPTOP and have it Customized for me ,do you know a trusty European Provider, with good prices ill aprecciatte your Help
That 7760 is still being sold as new,, and is extremely expensive,, I would go with an earlier model,, you pay to much for not a lot here..
Hai Morton, just ditch this old junk, as it uses too much power now ! You can buy a super efficient minipc with n100 qc processor, which only uses 6 watts standby for the price you are going to spend on a 'new' processor for this junk lot!
Runs proxmox and several vm's and containers just fine!
Tip: maybe they want this old stuff in Portugal! :-)
Okay,, yarh I do see that N100 is pretty fast :-)
Can I use that 45 watt cpu in my 92 Lenovo?as you are for 93 mini? I have the i5 in the 92
NO,, the M92 and M93,, does not use the same CPU socket..
Tbh it’s not worthy to invest on these old machines anymore. A Chinese n100 go about the same price ( specially if your upgrading CPU’s and out perform them all.
Yes it gets close,, they do cost a bit if they have 16GB RAM. But You might be right..
@@MyPlayHouse Also the networking on the newer mini PCs is sometimes better.
If you shop around you can get these much cheaper than an N100. I got 6 of these with i5-4590Ts and 8GB of RAM for £17.95 each. Biggest drawback is the single SATA port.
You are right! See also my comment above!
@@MyPlayHousemight cost a bit for this and that and be obsolete but gets my elderly brain going trying your projects, plus I get a rush seeing this old stuff getting new life.Cheers mate
1:59 Lenovo say it's a maximum of 16 GB because that was the main supported RAM back then but after a while they came up with higher sodium RAM slots the CPU in that machine can actually support up to 32 GB of RAM I don't know if the motherboard can support it but you could try using 32 GB.
Its the same case with alot of ThinkPad laptops they actually can support more ram then it says it can.
I did google it and did not find anyone with 32GB in there M92/M93
@@MyPlayHouse hmm could always try it and be the first, at worst it will just not register all the ram at best it will work
@@MyPlayHouse M910Q supports 32Gb; got one as my server with Proxmox. Cpu is i5-6500T. Got around 10 VMs and using around 10w
