Proxmox 8.1 Virtual Environment on Lenovo x3650 M5 - 1347

  • In this video I put Proxmox 8.1.3 on my good Lenovo x3650 M5 and do a bit of updating, plus get rid of the annoying subscription notice :
    Get you own Proxmox right here : proxmox.com/
    The line of code that removed the Subscription Notice:
    sed -Ezi.bak "s/(Ext.Msg.show\(\{\s+title: gettext\('No valid sub)/void\(\{ \/\/\1/g" /usr/share/javascript/proxmox-widget-toolkit/proxmoxlib.js && systemctl restart pveproxy.service
    The reason for trying Proxmox again, is the announcement from Broadcom, that VMWARE will from now and going forward, only be on a subscription plan.

    My PlayHouse is a channel where i will show, what i am working on. I have this house, it is 168 Square Meters / 1808.3ft² and it is full, of half-finished projects.
    I love working with heating, insulation, Servers, computers, Datacenter, green power, alternative energy, solar, wind and more. It all costs, but I'm trying to get the most out of my money, and my time.

    Proxmox works very well, I guess you might have some bias towards vmware in how the ui should be. I understand that, I also switched from VMware to Proxmox a couple of years ago 😊

      Once every major setting is available in the web ui, it's proper, otherwise there's too much linuxing involved :P

    Very happy with Proxmox (I'm not a server / VM expert at all) Have a full system running for a museum on a old Dell server with next to it a Proxmox backup server. And OpenMediaVault as file server. Works very stable. Just swapped a failing drive (raid) where PM is running on. ProxMox did send me an email every day when the drive was failing with the information which drive was failing. Only it runs on version 6 (installed jan 2021). I do not know how to safely upgrade to version 8. At home using version 7 at this moment on a Dell T410 server. Lot's of VM's on it. Very Happy how it performs and easy to use.

    7:50 Morten, I read Proxmox manuals on Proxmox 5 era, and they recommend to install Proxmox onto hardware raid1 boot drive, because the boot drive can be single point of failure😁 and when it fails, all the virtual machines go to limbo!

    stil on VMware and my VMUG subscription was just renewed for a year (could only do 1 year for their Black Friday deal) so now I can continue to run ESX8 for however .. it will be interesting to see what they will do with VMUG as they are Perpetual - dont really want to change things as I run fiber channel, do my backups with Veeam and integrated vsphere in Ansible to I can deploy VMs.. Also DRS and VMware templates are so nice.. well well at work we will kick VMware out, one of the worlds largest customers..

There are always stuff you cant do in the UI that need to be done in CLI. Not necesairly because of its not done but that its not worth implementing for the big mass.

    Your first task should be to get another server in the Proxmox cluster. Second task should be to move the XClarity VM to the cluster. Then you can migrate the VM between servers to do your firmware updates!
    (Your fourth task will be complaining about how difficult it is to shut down a cluster when the power goes out. Those pesky VMs migrate whenever a node goes down.)
