Mick Gordon: "Doom is here, it's claustrophobic, aggressive, brutal, tactile, drills into your face, piercing- it's at you." Song: "I'm not trapped with them, they're trapped with me."
The original Doom was released in 1993, my dudes. 30th anniversary coming up! The old soundtrack was basically MIDI-fied and slightly altered metal riffs from actual songs. Literally the "can I copy your homework?" "Sure but change it up a little" meme embodied. Definitely, definitely do a reaction video to some of the main tracks, though I'd suggest a few at a time. Andrew Hulshult did a full remake of the soundtrack called IDKFA as well, I have my gripes about his handling of Eternal's DLC tracks but IDKFA is *legendary*. Might be a cool special event to do a reaction to that album....
Wow, is it the one that's like an hour long? I'm writing it down y'all but I don't know if we have the stamina for such a video! Thanks for being here all! / George
He actually used most of that stuff on eternal, especially all of the analogue equipment (+choirs, some new synthesizers and kangling in a few tracks), it just sounds different cause it's a different game with different tone, atmosphere and visuals so it needed a different sound. From the start he was told to make music more "grove based" to support eternal's new flow of the combat and I assume they also told him to make it sound more "arcade-y" since the game became much less gloom and dark than d2016. And not only that - each level in eternal has its own theme unlike doom 2016 where almost all of the game was situated on mars and hell, also argent energy wasn't that important in eternal so that sound wasn't as prominent too. Basically those are the main reasons why eternal sounds differently
I get your perspective! I can definitely feel a bit more of a groovy pace in Eternal! And Mick's capacity to adapt his sound around the centerpiece is unquestionable by now! Thanks for the comment! / George
Probably not very soon, but as always, it's still on the list, and I hope we get to it! Doom seems to be an unending rabbit hole of reactable material and I plan on keeping it going! / George
This dude created one of the most insane soundtracks beyond humanity can fathom... and he's so wholesome explaining it!!! Dude this feels like hell listening to the music and I love it. And he literally messed with electricity!!! HE WARPED ELECTRICITY!!!! That's amazing. Also George were you not aware you said troundsack instead of soundtrack at some point? It broke you THAT MUCH. As it did my brain. MICK IS AWESOME
Well he does the thing. And the thing is good. No matter how old his equipment is lol he found many ways for it to sound awesome. He's a goofy scary genius 😁
Do you guys have any plans to play through the DOOM games? I know you're primarily a music reactions channel, but honestly, playing DOOM is a metal musical experience while you slaughter demons in a power fantasy. The story and atmosphere are excellent, too. You'd both love it, and we'd all love to watch. 👌
The original doom and Wolfenstein was the first ever first-person shooter, both made by id software who developed the new dooms you guys are listening to, doom has a hella of a lot of history with it's music and it's development, it's the grandfather for every shooter game date
@Mr. Blowy YaY for Doom! Sounds like it did well, even if maybe Wolfenstein came first, I wouldn't know tho. (we might have something coming from that soundtrack too) / George
“They are rage, brutal, without mercy. But you. You will be worse. Rip and tear, until it is done.” - thats what Doom about This is what Mick dig in a soundtrack of Doom 2016. His music invites you to feel the atmosphere of hell and fight it. It's agressive it's brutal it drills into your face (Eternal feels more comical for me)
I never thought the word "invites" and "hell" would be associated and make so much sense! It is definitely in your face... or my face... or anyone else face! All our faces are molten! / George
I hope you guys listen to more of Andrew Hulshult's DUSK soundtrack. I recommend Twin Terrors, Skinwalker, Tension Ascension, Crypted Chaos, Beneath the Altar, Burn in Hell, Nowhere and Keepers of the Gate
Remember, when Mick Gordon started DOOM, Besthesda literally made him to do music with NO GUITARS, but they are accepting of Synths. That's why you always hear both metal and synths. Mick Gordon even used a Chainsaw, a Lawnmower, and now David Levy did the same using an abandoned pool for Immora Theme.
@Jason Titanium I think you'd have to be bat-shit self-destructive as a game producer to not accept this style of soundtrack! Mick is a legend, and the torch carriers seem to do his legacy justice. How do you even use an "abandoned pool" for a soundtrack lol / George
@@thewindmillfullovcorpses David Levy used the Abandoned Pool to enhanced the sound demonic choirs he made, which he then applied to Immora. Here is the link. You may react to this. ruclips.net/user/shortsTnT8U9VWOSE
The abandoned pool acts like a massive subwoofer and adds the horror and intimidation since the pool is empty, the sound itself is surrounded by echoes of the Empty Pool's structure.

You guys should watch the talk that Mick Gordon gave at GDC in 2017! It goes into a lot more detail about his creative process.

Will write it down! / George

DOOM wouldn't be really be the same without Mick Gordon, but thankfully Andrew Hushult and David Levy are carrying the torch.
Thankfully, Bethesda along the way finally accepted Guitars, and you can't separate DOOM with Guitars.
