The warmth and generosity of the African. Makes one begin to picture what the initial encounter between the first European sojourners in Africa and the African must have looked like.

Grew up in Zaria in Kaduna State and seeing you speaking Yoruba makes me want to relearn Hausa. After that I'll study Yourba (the language of Fela Kuti). Nigeria has a special place in my heart. Nagode da yawa abukiya.

Inferiority complex as some of y'all said might play some roles
but Nigerians esp Yorubas r usually more friendly 2wards visitors or any
other tribes n dat explained how our ancestors fell
    into Oyinbo/foreigners traps.

Knowledge for knowledge's sake is always something to be respected. As much as I'm proud of my culture, language and ancestry, there's no material reason for an outsider to learn Yoruba. So I think it's fair enough to be excited about a foreigner learning about your language and culture purely out of an interest in who you are and what you're like.

I'm a brazilian guy, practioner of Yoruba traditional religion. In Brazil, the yoruba and dahomeans slavers created a religion named Candomble, wich keep alive the traditions of Yoruba Orishas and Dahomean Voduns worshipness. So in our awon ile-ijosin, houses of worshipness, we sing and pray in Yoruba language, and some houses of Vodun worshipness, in Ewe-fon language. So to learn yoruba language is a matter of resistance for us. In Brazil, considering that we are being ruled by a fascist and racist christian government, under the fascist Jair Bolsonaro, there is a kind of persecution against the worshipers of Yoruba Orishas and Dahomean Voduns and against the Amazonian jungle people, the 'indigenas'. They want to impose their neopentecostal religion against us.

Your right but they have to do it for their selves and no one else. It didn't transpire over night with me. My cousin gave me a book and said read it because you might like it and it led to other things. I know a lot of people wont wake up but if I start with self and my offspring, it'll be another minus to the stereotype.

and to all thinking the old man in the video the oloye is not proud of his culture or is inferior that's totally not true its human nature its not an everyday occurrence you see a white woman besides south Africans who has an excellent command of an African dialect sub-consciously he cant grasp or wrap his head around the fact that this woman speaks Yoruba, instinctively he does what comes natural everybody does it when I speak Russian to a Russian 80percent of the time they respond in english

  • @MalamIbnMalam

The generalization is strong in you. It has nothing to do with her being white, but foreign. She isn't Nigerian, and Nigerians treat foreigners better for their own personal agenda. I wish other countries were like that. A Nigerian in America is treated like a second class citizen.

I think she's doing very well; especially as she tries to say every word in Yoruba. I disagree with you @21wf that she should simply focus on pronouncing gb & p. I feel it is the accent she should focus on getting right. With the right accent & tone, she would sound more convincing than just getting gb & p right!

@YoungFemzilla:Here's a wonderful example. A foreigner, look at how much she admire Yoruba Lang. Many Nigerian's living in Nigeria would not even try speak Yoruba to their children which is really stupid. I am a Nigerian man living in the U.S. every time I visit Nigeria, I don't speak English at all, I speak pure Yoruba. If anyone that I know understands Yoruba speaks English to me, I refused to speak English to them and I tell them I am not American, so please speak my native lang.
