Thank you for this politically enlightening documentary on Sierra Leone. Late President Siaka Stevens was really lucky and ruthless to have survived so many coups!
The death of Sir Milton in 1964 robbed the nation of steady, sustained progress, since the emergence of Siaka Stevens tilted the country in the wrong direction. A solid SLPP under Sir Milton would have kept SLPP in power after the 1967 elections and so keep Sheki in the shadows to reinforce the country’s democratic credentials. Sheki handed Sierra Leone to Momoh as a poisoned gift or as an extremely sick patient in 1985. As the saying goes, the rest is history. May the Almighty help us.
Thanks so much Obockay for your detailed documentary of Sierra Leone's Military Coup of 1971. I just hit the like button, subscribed and personalized. Good work!
After Sir Milton Margai, the political story of Sierra Leone changed. And as of today, it remains the same. What a predicament? Politics: the madness of many but benefit for few.
This is a great enlightenment of history wow you are fantastic where did you find this documentary? I hope they are teaching this history in the schools and colleges. I never learned about this in school oh this is interesting thank you for this history.
What I learned from this documentary is that a jealousy wife/woman will lead to your downfall 🤔 and I will never discuss my secret plans with a woman 🤔 Bangura was a good hearted man but he was betrayed by his wife 🤔 Tnxs for this master piece documentary ❤
There should be no thuggery, violence, hatred, or division between the different political parties in Sierra Leonean politics. The problem is that those who enabled this are selfish individuals who want to enrich themselves and their families. They have no good intention, to bring stability, establish a welfare system or some safety net to help the everyday people of Sierra Leone. Sierra Leone is a beautiful country that is blessed with natural mineral resources, which is enough to provide for every citizen..
This episode of the 1971 first coup is well researched, and the sources are well faced checks. Could you post the references you used for research for this episode? Thanks!

Bangura paid for His stupidity. Siaka Stevens was brought to prominence by the Margai's especially Sir Albert Margai. Then he portrayed himself as a a southerner from Moyamba. He later betrayed Sir Albert and portrayed himself as a Limba from Kabisa in the Kambia district. Bangura a Loko/Themne was handed power by junior officers Amadu Rogers and Patrick Conteh both with roots to Sulima, Stevens' maternal home. Bangura trusted Steven despite Stevens 'ungrateful act to the Margais. Bangura never lived to enjoy his stupidity.
Interesting take on events of 1971 soldiers mutiny/coup d'état....There's a lot more to this story that needs to be told to correct the inaccuracies. Very good try albeit.
Sir Milton and Albert did nothing on development for this country but was fighting and tribalistic started coups, Siaka fought his right and build the country. He knows these people are not good for us,'Mde, Fla* APC u must fight for ur right if u are weak bye
Do you even know what you're saying?? What's not the accurate about the documentary?? Check your facts right before commenting. The reporter is right! Yes Sankoh was a rebel leader but prior to becoming a rebel leader he was an Army soldier who was jailed in 1971 for the failed coup as reported by Obockay. He was released in 1978 and he started the war in 1991. Again, check your facts right before commenting. Thank you!

APC introduced thuggery into the politics of Sierra Leone.
SLPP introduce tribalism in politics

Seriously, so it was Albert Margai that started all this nonsense of tribalism that has destroyed the country till date
WHAT SIAKA STEVENS LEFT BEHIND IN SIERRA LEONE IS WHAT THE COUNTRY IS STILL SUFFERING FROM.
Albert margai started it

Jamila was a problem.
As a Tanzanian I never knew that Sierra Leone had a tumultuous past. Siaka came to Tanzania in late 1970s. I think he was a friend of Julius Nyerere.

In almost every african countries , after independence ,the leaders fought for power.
Anytime I heard Africa got independent, from a stranger, I asked how a foreign from nowhere came and enslaved a whole continent?
