- Jerry Rawlings popularly known as J.J, is the former president of Ghana. A hands on, brave and astute leader mostly revered and known for revolutionizing the political and economic status of Ghana at a dire point in its history.
His famous escape from execution in 1979 and the brave rescue by his military friends from a dictatorial government became his turning point, for presidency.
As a historian, and a Nigerian, am honour to have a nationalist who lived among us. God bless you in heaven and God bless the people of Ghana.

The documentary is worth watching.Rawlings revolutionized Ghana political and economic status.He was a statesman.He remained unbowed even when his critics critized his manifesto.He ensured rebuilding of Ghana was build by all, the old and the young.He didnt mind getting his hands dirty.He was showing orientation on how people should do.He was unique in his leadership.He was charismatic.This is what other African leaders should strive to emulate.

The thing is that if the people begin to follow his example, you begin to build a critical mass - it's wonderful that he sets such a great example - but it's terrible if he's the only one. We have to learn how to follow examples - we are each leaders in our own right - not in a competitive manner, but in a way that we set a standard for our culture and tradition.

Growing up in Lagos in the 80s, we had lots of teachers from Ghana. I remember "Uncle Peter" very fondly. Wherever they may be today I pray they and their families are prospering and in good health.

Hello John Grant! Jerry Rawlings to me, is one in a million. Is very seldom to hear, or see, that an African leader, used his own money to establish a University. Because of those students, who had to travel for two hours; before they arrived at their places of learning.
May God bless him and his family and I hope that Jerry Rawlings has passed his compassion for his people to his children. So that they help their people like their father is doing. I saw it by chance as I went on RUclips, to check on my latest collection of poems, titled 'NEPTUNE CALLS TO TIDE,' By: R.I. IYEMERE Video Voice Over, and I was so fascinated when I stumbled on it.
The speech he made about remembering how to go to bed, without food. Christianize me but don't westernize me and all that.
I also saw where he was lending a hand to the men, working on railway line. I am sure that world wide people admire Jerry Rawlings, like you and I. Jerry Rawlings has shown very good examples.

I am Nigerian. Ghanaians should be glad Rawlings cleaned up the mess then before it got too late like the mess we are in now in Nigeria. I can remember a lot of Ghanaians fled to Nigeria living virtually as "refugees" just surviving on the streets to make a living. Most did very low paying jobs but relatively few of them became our teachers and they contributed one way or the other into Nigerian society then. Unfortunately, a stupid civilian regime in the early 1980s in Nigeria declared that Ghanaians should leave Nigeria. That's where the term "Ghana Must Go" came from. Until now we wish someone could do in Nigeria what Rawlings did in Ghana but that is virtually almost impossible now. Nigeria has reached the point of no return and gone over the slippery slope. Sometimes I envy Ghana as a country because someone was able to do something to save your country from going over the cliff. Please keep watch over your politicians and political system like eagles. There is still a long way to go. Life is interesting, because now Nigerians "run" to Ghana to make a living. Maybe some day we would be able to "save" Nigeria from the vultures that are currently controlling the polity and resources. That journey is about starting in 2019 when younger generation of Nigerians with a saner way of thinking will start contesting in elections. It's a long shot but a step in right direction.

The Ghana must go is a retaliation. Nigeria hasn’t always been super. Back in the late 50s and 60s, Ghana was the economic super power of the sub region, thousands of Nigerians flooded in to Ghana at the time, it was then the Ghanaian government at the time came up with the foreign compliance law sending Nigerians in particular back to their country in 1967.
What happened in the 80s was simply retaliatory just that it hurt Nigeria at the time particularly their educational system which had great tutors from Ghana.
I remembered seeing a lot Ghanaians in Lagos in the 1980s. The are very hardworking, honest and friendly people.
You can't take away the fact that the white blood him played a big role in his selfless service to Ghana.

The mistake that the Akuffu government made was to allow Rawlings to talk during his trial in 1979. When Rawlings spoke, he spoke for the majority of Ghanaians, won the people and garnered a lot of support from his colleagues. That was where he won the battle.
The smartest thing Rawlings did was the peaceful transfer of power in 2001. I remember the fear that gripped the citizens and tension in the whole nation. The whole world was watching and probably expecting Ghana to be yet another war torn African country. It was such a relief to see that peaceful transition. Love him or hate him, Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings was a great man who came at the time the nation needed him most. Yes he was human, yes he made a lot of mistakes but his contribution to national development was paramount!

Watching this now the day of his passing away 12.Nov.2020 and I'm quite sad for his passing away even tho as much as my Grandad who was a lawyer and well respected, was one of the people JJ mistreated and also burn down his pub that had built for the community.
I grew up hating this man but in all in God we trust and it's God that heals, restore and forgives.
I am glad I found peace in my heart to forgive him couple of years ago before him passing away and I'm sure he's not proud of himself with some decisions he made and what he done to some family and hope and pray he's asked God for forgiveness for all his wrong doing before passing away.
