as a musician it's hard to break out of a certain mold you've created. i catch myself playing the same melodies over and over again in different keys and fall in love all over again lol some of us can eat the same meal everyday
It can be very hard but if you care about evolving your skills and reaching your potential, it’s necessary. I’m always trying to incorporate little different things that I wouldn’t normally do and it’s helped me be a lot more versatile.
And that's the ticket right there. Change the key, the meter, the tempo, switch up the rhythms a little bit. People make millions doing this.

@@publicanimal I see what your saying but I don’t think that’s necessarily the case. Even if I’m trying different techniques or adding new tricks, it still sounds true to my sound. I play a lot of fingerpicking in alternate tunings and feel like I’ve carved out something of my own sound while trying to be versatile.
@@publicanimal i think it’s important to dabble in a lot of styles then eventually you can take the best parts out of each bag to mold it into your own thing. It’s why I’ve been practicing orchestra music lately. Some of the runs there you would have never thought of if you were just noodling. Also it’s pretty embarrassing jamming with people and when they suddenly do jazz and you find out you can’t keep up
