IT WAS BEAUTIFUL AND POWERFUL RICH AFRICAN CULTURE TO WITNESS IN MEMPHIS, IT WAS SO COLORFUL, WITH THE ASHANTI KING WEARING PURE GOLD ORNAMENTS TO SYMBOLISE THEIR WEALTH IN THE ASHANTI KINGDOM.
The Asante King gives speech on education, history
of the Asante Empire at the U of M
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, the Asante King, opened his speech Thursday afternoon to a crowd at the University of Memphis by talking about the importance of education.
"It has been a policy, wherever our leaders have taken us, to seek to engage the youth in the educational system," the king said. "Not only as a reflection of the priority we have put in education, but also because of our recognition that creating understanding in the youth is the surest way to ensure the future of the world."
The speech, titled “Contemporary Challenges in United States and Africa Relations," was a part of the Memphis in May International Festival, a week-long series of programs to learn about the festival's "honored country," which is Ghana this year. Memphis in May first picked Ghana as the honored country in 2020, but the pandemic upended the city's signature festival and events. Organizers decided to honor Ghana this year with national and local COVID-19 restrictions largely gone.
Citizens of Memphis, you can be proud of this city for its foresight in establishing the Memphis in May International Festival," the king said. "...we have traveled several hundred miles from across the oceans, in the very heart of Africa, to celebrate with the city this year and it is only right that we make the most of the opportunity to foster greater understanding as a contribution to the continental relations of the people of our two countries."
Much of the 15-minute speech focused on educating the attendees on the history and culture of the Asante Empire and Ghana.

We in this tiny Caribbean twin island Republic are happy to have the King and his retinue. We have retained many of our African cultures in the food, worship and first names of our children. Our respect for the African continent is growing as Afro Caribbeans recall our past in the face of the terrible treatment of African peoples all over the world.
I am GA from Accra, but I am proud of His Majesty King Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. He did this for all Ghanaians, not just the Ashanti's.
Yes he did for all Ghana 🇬🇭 and also all Black people globally, to show the world Black people have rich culture.

When the slave master who purchased you wants to get under your skin, they say go back to Africa. You should be proud that at least you know where you are from. I know some of you are still salty with the narrative that Africans sold you into slavery. How about the freed black slaves who enslaved other blacks in the slavery era. Your own people enslaved some of you. You need to read and enlighten yourself.
Ashanti is not a tribe but a Kingdom or Empire.
It stretches from Seychelles to Liberia all the way to Benin, Togo, Ghana and Ivory Coast.
Now, everything is just for ceremonial purposes yet Ashantis don't joke with their Ashantiness and their King.
They still till date called the King "Otumfuor the Big God, " (Otumfuor Nyame Kese). Nyame - God and Kese - Big.
Ashantis regard women alot in their culture cos the King are always chosen by the Queens.
They use dance to communicate so all those dances are form of communication to the King or the elders around him.
The only Kingdom in Africa that was able to raise about 50000 soldiers in 18 century to face the British army. They defeated the British twice and lost on the third war. Even in those days their Army formation was so advanced.
They had front wing command,
Left wing command,
Right wing command,
Back up command,
Behind enemy command,
Detective command, and do on. They were the best fighters in jungle wars.
Their soldiers could fight for straight one week without food.

@@DaughterofSarahisreal Asante and other Akan peoples have been mining gold from the 1500s before trading with the Europeans. All the gold that you see here has been passed down for generations. They are State ornaments for the office. That includes the gold staffs of the Okyeame, the king's speaker, and the sword bearers. The other important thing to note is that in Ghana it is the King and other chiefs that are custodians of the land. So all minerals resources found in their territory is under their trust. So in Asante, all the gold mining companies and small scale miners pay royalties to the Asante king. But they don't pay in dollars, they pay in gold.
His Royal Majesty, King Osei Tutu , gets his money from where other kings and queens get their money from.
He sits and presided over GOLD!/ Diamonds!
